My excuse is that I dont live in the UK, and I can never tell people apart anyway, they look identical to me.

I found out todat that their father was the neo-marxist thinker and writer Ralph Miliband. Apparently the communists in this country are gutted that the brothers are so right wing!

dittany, that was a joke, I just forgot the smiley face!

Its kind of weird - who knows what else is lurking out there?
Two Tony Blairs, perhaps?
Multiple Mandelsons?

the mind boggles.

why isn't Alan Johnson standing? (Is he being one of those stalking horses?)

Alan Johnson is supporting David Miliband. I think they all know that the writing is on the wall and that David Miliband is the chosen one. That's why I think that Harriet Harman is not standing either.

complimentary · 15/05/2010 21:30

OMG. David Milliband/brother are bad enough, and more from where he came from,{cringe} how many more?............

Ponders · 15/05/2010 21:33

I knew he was supporting DM but why??? I heard Shirley Williams suggesting AJ the other day & it made perfect sense...I'm not sure either Miliband does

mememe30 · 15/05/2010 21:35

I had no idea there was more than one. I don't have the defence of not living in the uk either. I do live in Bucks though. The county of the conservatives!!! They both look sooooooo smarmy!!!

claig · 15/05/2010 21:36

His reason is that he is too old and it is time for the younger generation. I don't really believe that reason.

crabwoman · 15/05/2010 21:41

E Miliband is nearly barable. D turns my stomach, wouldn't trust him as far as i could throw him

Also i think David looks like Gomez from the Adams family which is a little disconcerting......

fatzak · 15/05/2010 21:42

What about their brother Steve...

(sorry, very old joke am sure once heard on Radio)

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 21:48

Does anyone know owt about Jon Cruddas?

OP posts:
Shaz10 · 15/05/2010 21:51

fatzak I love it!

claig · 15/05/2010 21:51

Cruddas is expected to stand later on this week

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 21:52

TarkaLiotta had a thread on it
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/politics/965611-So-have-you-heard

clue is music

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 21:59

I read that thread earlier and didnt get that either

Steve Miliband

ShadeofViolet · 15/05/2010 22:01

I know they are brothers but they look nothing alike apart from their odd skintone.

I want Ben Bradshaw to declare himself in. I have a secret crush on him as he has lovely hair.

ShadeofViolet · 15/05/2010 22:01

swoon

pinkteddy · 15/05/2010 22:03

I don't think David Milliband is a shoe in by any means. He's not popular within the parliamentary party hence why he didn't manage any coups (sp?) against Gordon Brown.

claig · 15/05/2010 22:05

pinkteddy I would put money on it. All of the big figures like Johnson, Harman etc. are not entering, which gives him a free path near enough.

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 22:07

slowest mumsnetter finally gets it.

claig, what if the Anyone But Milliband effect takes over though? they could find themselves with a surprise victor.

Please let it be Mandelson - would love him to be PM!
