My excuse is that I dont live in the UK, and I can never tell people apart anyway, they look identical to me.

what a blessed, happy world you have been living in...

or course that depends on if your world only had Ed Miliband (just about bearable) or the odious David Miliband.

VoulezVouzCrochezAvecJACK · 15/05/2010 16:51

DH knew there were 2, but not that they were brothers.
He said 'Well they look kinda alike, but I figured it was just coincidence'

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 16:53

Why is D Milliband smarmier than E?

I have seen E in the flesh, he looked about as smarmy as you can get (but if GB likes him, then I guess he cant be all bad).

Yes, I have been living in a blessed happy world - I never watch TV, and only listen to music on the radio. Sort of suspended emmigration, really.

My daughter and I have a theory that they are some form of alien clone from another planet,we think they look like something on Doctor Who that is only pretending to be human! Sadly I was well aware that there were two of them!

skidoodly · 15/05/2010 16:57

D Miliband is about smarmiest man imaginable.

@ Voulez's DH

OK, if their name was Smith or something, but Miliband?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 15/05/2010 16:59

I'd managed to have not clocked there was two of them until the day of the election, at which point I got very confused in a sleep deprived haze for a bit.

brogan2 · 15/05/2010 17:00

I don't actually think they look alike at all.

skidoodly · 15/05/2010 17:09

They both do and don't look alike. When you see them both together they look totally different from one another. When you only see one, it is David, and you can't remember what the other one looks like so you think he looks the same.

at voulez and your DH - the thought that there woudl be two similar looking men out there both with the surname Miliband and it would just be a coincidence......

Ed is more preferable I think, David has lego hair.

I hope Labour choose Ed Balls as their next leader.

Why are the Milibands apparently so disliked? Genuine question. Have they done something unspeakable that I've missed? Ed seems ok to me...

Hillary Clinton must be gutted that she has to deal with Hague now

LostArtOfKeepingASecret · 15/05/2010 18:59

I didn't realise we were lucky enough to have more than one Miliband brother until about two weeks into the election. I just thought he got around a bit.

I didn't know that Yvette Cooper was married to Ed Balls either. But thats sort of understandable who'd be daft enough to marry that twonk

David Miliband is a coward.

He was involved in all the Gordon Brown coup plots, but didn't have the guts to actually go public, unlike James Purnell.

Whatever party the PM is from, I want them to be men and women with guts.

David Miliband is a snivelling yellowbelly.

He has also annoyed countless countries of the future (especially India) during his time as Foreign Sec.

Don't have an opinion one way about Ed Miliband, other than the fact he is hopelessly naive and accomplished absolutely nothing during his time as a Minister.

The best outcome for Labour would be Harriet Harman or Andy Burnham.

The best outcome for the country would be Ed Balls.

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 19:20

dittany - we are talking about the Conservatives here, arent we?

said - they are just a universal breed of "hack" - they could be tories or labour - they give the impression that they are always looking over your shoulder to see if somebody more worth hacking is coming along.
Tory equivalent is Michael Gove.

My impression of Ed M (based on a few minutes of observation lol) was that he is v bright and v ambitious, and somehow untouched by real life. He should be more laid back though, it aint cool to be so nakedly ambitious! Makes him look like a 21 year old student union hack. I hope thats constructive criticism!

Could Mandelson still stand as leader, or is that an impossibility under Labour party rules?

KurriKurri · 15/05/2010 19:39

I spent about half an hour on the phone last night trying to convince my mother there are 2 Milibands. I think she thought she was seeing the same person from a different angle.

Of the 2 I prefer Ed. but would prefer neither to win.

brogan2 · 15/05/2010 19:45

Claig, he isn't an MP, he's in the Lords so he couldn't be PM.

claig · 15/05/2010 19:48

thanks brogan2, I thought that might be the case. He is slowly growing on me. He is so clever, I think he would run rings around Cameron and Clegg. But the Labour party and the public are not too keen on him.

Shaz10 · 15/05/2010 19:50

puts hand up

I'm glad I'm not the only one! In my defence I couldn't name many of the other Labour party members either...
