What I don't get about Angela Rayner

Is how can she be a serious contender for PM, when she stood down as deputy PM for shady dealings?

It rendered her not good enough for no 2 but oh it's fine for her to look at the top job!

Does not compute, could someone explain?

Is the reason why everyone hates Ed Miliband that he takes climate change seriously?
I know the right wing press loathe him but I can’t work out that he’s done anything wrong beyond trying to actually do something about the fact that burning fossil fuels is causing irreversible damage to our basic life support systems.

He’s a net zero fanatic!

I can’t work out whether this is a serious post or a sarcastic one, sorry!
I mean ‘net zero fanatic’ is what Ed’s called in the Sun because they think that making a serious effort to avoid the Really Bad Things which are rapidly heading our way (rising sea levels, likelihood of multiple drought / heatwave / floods hitting global agriculture, Amazon rainforest collapse, water shortages causing conflict etc) is somehow a character flaw…

Re Angela Rayners tax situation - I read today that HMRC have cleared her of any wrongdoing.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 14/05/2026 14:38

@LilyCanna It’s a huge problem when people cannot afford their bills! His policies increase bills a lot. If we had a bouyant growth economy, yes, go for it. Unfortunately millions of people feel they cannot afford the green agenda, even though they would like to. Ed is also a previous failed leader. He was a mistake then (got the union vote) and will be now.

Ang will get the union support now. She’s one of their own. She will bankrupt the rest of us and knows nothing about business. So no growth with her at the helm. She’s paid her tax though and wasn’t surcharged.

It's mad. The cost of living is going to keep going up as the world burns and we can no longer grow any bloody crops, and 'the boats' are arriving in their thousands as the third world is an absolute mess due to our overconsumption. But still, no one gives a shit about the green agenda.

Angela has been suddenly cleared by HMRC. How lucky. 🙄

I want Ed Miliband to run for PM if there is a leadership contest.
He is rather clean for what I can find. I have not seen him at the centre of any scandal, but been the one to sort issues.

Well, we may not have acces to crude and gas in the volumes we need it for much longer. The Strait of Hormuz does not seem to be easing. So we have to get on with the renewable market. We should have invested on it much earlier, and we would be less dependant on international affairs by now. But we cannot change the past. This is the time to get solar panels up in our houses roofs ( instead of flipping farming land!), by a UK company. Create jobs for UK workers.
Same with wavepower. More wind power.
And so on.
I am not saying no to get gas and crude from the North Sea, while we get there. Because, of course, no child or pensioner (or anyone) should go cold, if we have a way to prevent it.
But if we can be fully independant of ME and Russian oil and gas, that would help so much to keep our economy stable. Stability brings in more investment.

Also, the weather and food insecurity that models predict, if we do not get close enough to that Net Zero by 2023 or 2050, are very scary. And the models have proven that they can predict what is going on so far. They are reliable.

She was advised by a legal person that her tax arrangements were fine! It’s not shady.
She’d be great. Much better than any man.
