Just being reported on BBC news now. The NEC has met and refused to allow Andy Burnham to stand in the by-election. This is looking very bad for Starmer.

You’re still not getting it because of this odd mindset, just because someone doesn’t vote Labour it doesn’t make them a Russian agent, it doesn’t make them Racist, it doesn’t make them a ‘gammon’, it doesn’t make them not care about children. You’re talking about 85% of the electorate!! I used to find these sort of views funny until we had a Government that appears to share them and bases policies around resentment for these non existent ‘enemies of the people’ , now it’s not so funny.

I think it’s you who’s not getting it. Just because someone votes Labour or Green, for that matter, it doesn’t mean they’re benefit dependent or a public sector employee. You’re doing exactly the same thing that you’re calling other people out over. Maybe you could agree that neither viewpoint has any merit or indeed basis in reality?

BIossomtoes · 26/01/2026 09:40

Why else would I support them? Seriously? Not everyone is motivated by self interest. Because I don’t want millions of children living in poverty, I don’t want people living on the streets and I do want a functioning health service in which people have to wait months for care. I could go on but I strongly suspect I’d be wasting my time.

There is no point in arguing with some people, @BIossomtoes . @MissMollyanna is clearly incapable of comprehending the idea that some people might not vote for their own self interest. If she is even real.

Generally current Labour supporters are, generally.. not every single person. Where as generally the 85% of the electorate that don’t support Labour are not child hating, racist Russian agents.

Not many do support Labour currently it’d be interesting to see for the 15% or so left whether they are in those groups.

LOL I think we’ve established I’m not real and am in-fact a Russian agent or bot.

I think older labour voters have a romantic view of what Labour used to be; the party of the working class. Those days are long over. This Labour government isn't interested in lifting people out of poverty by helping them into work. They are interested in keeping people on benefits so that they have a voting base.

People who vote Labour often see themselves as altruistic, benevolent types yet vote for a party that is anything but. Probably out of habit, lack of an alternative or a refusal to see reality. There aren't many of them left TBF.

HappyFace2025 · 26/01/2026 13:06

MissMollyanna · 26/01/2026 10:56

It could be some great conspiracy making people not face that Labour know what’s best for them or it could just be that people like pubs?
Great work getting Nazi in 👍

But @ginasevern is correct. What is happening today bears similarities to Nazi rule in the 1930s.

Thats actually a really astute observation, it makes a lot of sense. I’d imagine this is particularly true of those without children.

Ok. I’m guessing you’re not referring to the cancelled elections and curbs in free speech?

I do feel that in general politics is becoming more like Nazi Germany in the 1930s when free speech was curtailed and Jews and Communists were thrown into prison. Both the US and Britain appear to be going down a similar route. Molly doesn't think current British politics are like Germany then so no, she and I don't agree. Sorry for confusion.

Youre right. Cancellation of elections. Censorship. Elevating certain groups over others legally. Anti semetism.

Labour do resonate with 1930s Nazi Germany.

Labour do resonate with 1930s Nazi Germany.

Reform led Leicestershire County Council openly applauding ICE. No elections have been cancelled, merely postponed to save money and facilitate the smooth running of the current local government reorganisation.

Oh yes sorry. I see. Only Reform can be the Nazis of the 1930s because a couple of them (who aren't in Government) "applauded"the actions of the US.

Unlike Labour who are actually doing things the Nazis actually did and are actually the Government.

So why is it "nonsense" when its Labour who are in power and actually doing things that people usually suggest are authoritarian?

But not nonsense when it's Reform who aren't actually in power and aren't doing things that are authoritarian?

Because its nonsense. Labour ate doing absolutely nothing comparable to the Nazis and it’s insulting to the millions of people who suffered and died under Nazi rule to diminish their experience by drawing completely invalid comparisons. As I said, give your head a wobble.
