Why do people like reform?

1000 replies

TheGoogleMum · 02/05/2025 09:23

I haven't been keeping very up to date with politics. I usually vote Labour. I don't really understand the popularity of reform, could anyone explain it to me?
As far as I'm aware Farage doesn't actually do anything when he wins a seat somewhere so I'm not convinced they'll actually do anything? Is it just a protest vote that's gone a bit far?

I know a white man of 28 who recently applied to the police. He didn't get past the very first part of the assessment. When he told an aquaintance who was in the police he said 'You are the wrong colour mate. You went straight to the bottom of the pile. It would have helped your chances if you'd pretended to be gay though, then being white would have mattered less.'

I'm assuming you aren't a Telegraph subscriber so I can't send you those link(s) as to the reports on the racist application system in West Yorkshire Police.

I am. Can I have the link, please?

Why can’t you post a link? I’m not your secretary.

You’re the one making the argument. Since you’re so reluctant to provide any evidence for your assertion I’ll just assume it’s bollocks.

matresense · 08/05/2025 09:59

it’s 100 per cent immigration. Most people want it to be lower, much lower. It has been the basis of almost every big vote since 2015 (even the last election, I think people were frustrated with the conservatives for being elected to do something and then being totally ineffective and lying about having made it worse) and the voters keep being betrayed. The reality is that there are very few studies that actually support the levels that we have had as being beneficial for the country on a per capita basis. None of the studies that say immigrants are net contributors have fully factored in the toll to public services because most assume that immigrants are young, have no kids and leave. Almost all the studies that the government has used to support more immigration are authored by Christian dustman, who also said that very few Eastern European people would migrate to the U.K. when the U.K. was implementing EU enlargement (and not putting a brake on immigration like Germany and France).

the reality is that people are told something by officialdom and the liberal media that really doesn’t chime with reality, whether objective reality or as they experience it. If you enlarge the population but have almost no GDP growth people are getting poorer per capita - this is what we have been doing - if the people at the top are not feeling it, then there are people in the bottom and middle disproportionately feeling it, but sod them because they are racists.

it’s honestly going to get worse until the government do something.

I'm happy with that.

Unless you are Yvette Cooper in which case you can't simply "assume it's bollocks" and should really take a proper look at what's going on.

Unfortunately it will.get much worse looking at the two tier India trade deal.

Maitri108 · 08/05/2025 11:38

@Jackrussellsaremad It's obvious why you don't agree with any kind of policies that may help the marginalised into work.

You're obviously a Tory and think we have a meritocracy. It's the natural order of things for public school boys and millionaires to govern the country. They're the right people for the job and got it on merit.

You're floundering around but without evidence it's just bluster. It doesn't matter about the interview, the police need to pass a two year training period in order to do their jobs and everyone does the same training.

Yet again you tell me about an article in the Telegraph as though they're not renowned as a Tory mouthpiece and are completely unbiased.

"It doesn't matter about the interview, the police need to pass a two year training period in order to do their jobs and everyone does the same training."

Actually the interview matters very much because without first getting an interview and secondly passing the interview then you don't even get the opportunity to commence and then pass a two year training period.

Yes, that is correct. You need an interview to do the training. My point was that the interview does not determine whether or not you can do the job. The training determines whether or not you can do the job.

The poster is suggesting that some people don't need to pass the training and are just let loose on the street.

I obviously can't verify the story being told here, but the police do have form for that sort of thing:

What do you think the purpose of an interview is? Do you think it could be to assess whether someone is suitable and has the necessary attributes for a role? So if someone fails an interview it could mean they don't have the necessary attributes for a role. And yet in the case of West Yorkshire police, they get given the role anyway because of their skin colour.

So only Tories agree with appointing members of the police (who keep us safe) on merit and apptitude rather than skin colour?

Also.(edit) I'm not 100% sure that our police force should be used to help "the marginalised into work". There seems an obvious flaw in that approach....

We all agree with it which is why accommodations are made for hard to recruit groups. You and the Telegraph are on a hiding to nothing here.

Obviously that isn't what I said. I made a point of public school, white men being the best people to run the country because according to you, we live in a meritocracy. They are apparently the best people to do the job.

Making up porkies about not training people because of Positive Action doesn't help your case.

I'm not entirely sure your argument is logical particularly bearing in mind what I was replying to.

Recruit on merit. Get good policing.

Recruit on skin colour. Get police who have failed to pass the necessary standards. Which has happened in West Yorkshire Police.

Seems entirely logical to me but not to you and the other interesting poster.

It isn’t what’s happened at all. I can’t be bothered to argue with someone who keeps twisting facts to suit their own ends. Life’s too short.

I don't really need to have "a case". The facts speak for themselves.

What's the obsession with public schools? And white men? Are you still living in the 1960s like a Japanese WW2 soldier and haven't noticed who we have had as PMs?
