Well, as to your saying "I don't know if it will" to my post: No one is safe. I'm actually pleased at the arrest of a judge, as I hope that this will shock people who have thus far been complacent...
I think it's fair to say that none of us knows what will happen. It's not just the lack of understanding of democracy, but statistics turned up a horrifyingly large chunk of the population saying, in effect, Meh, democracy isn't that great and maybe we'd do better with a dictator. Also, the lack of central news - as opposed to when everyone had the same TV sources, pre-internet - means that a lot of people are oblivious of real news.
A lot of people are cheering very minor court victories, which I think mean little. I'm starting, counter-intuitively, to cheer bad behavior so outrageous that maybe it will make a dent in public consciousness.
