OR are just amused by American politics?

I thought we'd established that the men are mostly thinking about the roman empire?

ramblingfool · 24/07/2024 17:39

Blisterly · 24/07/2024 17:37

I think you are right. I used to be very interested in politics and sports, then my husband impregnated me and once I had my child, literally as soon I gave birth, I put down the politics section of the paper and picked up Hello magazine. Maybe the act of giving birth releases all the politics and sports hormones?

See, now THERE is a comment about the question. Nicely done.

Depends which men. American men think about the Trump empire.

Not singling out anyone. This forum is called Mumsnet not Dadsnet, so the question was for a specific audience.

Some of us aren’t mums.

😂

The worst thing is when you work in politics or a field that is politics adjacent. Then you get impregnated, squirt out a kid, and have to give it up to crochet potholders. They really should stop hiring us ladies for those jobs, or at least establish non-fertility first.

I thought American men all thought about baseball and beer.

Trump has joined the conversation. Among men that is,

OP, what do your children think of your interest in politics? Do they complain that it distracts you from the kttens? It’s a valid concern - the furry little shits won’t stroke themselves more’s the pity

All the women in my family, who also happen to be mums.

Men in conversation: sports and politics.
Mums in conversations: kids and gossip.

I thought men were continuously occupied with the Roman Empire? Shouldn't leave them much time for politics.

Also, why is it "men" on the one hand, "mums" on the other? Unless you want to hypothesize some extreme form of society-wide polygamy, common sense would suggest you need equal numbers of each for procreation?

samedifferent · 24/07/2024 17:46

Darn, I like to discuss American politics while crocheting. Quite concerning I'm womening wrong now!
Do you have a handy guide to follow OP?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 24/07/2024 17:46

Why is it relevant whether MNers are mums when asking them if they follow US politics? I follow it in the sense that I follow the news, including international news. I am not amused by it.

Anyway, I'm not sure your either/or really works. Surely you have to follow it to a certain extent in order to be amused by it!

I don't blame you for not having known! I only do because some men told me.

I know a few mums. Few follow American politics. Not saying none do, just not many. No data to back that up, but in conversation, they rather talk about the latest gossip. Just sayin'.

Well but if you go down that route, few mums are actually interested in politics in the U.K. either….

Do you think that’s REALLY the truth?

Coughsweet · 24/07/2024 17:47

Honestly OP, there are kittens out there mewing for your attention. You’ve abandoned them for long enough. Where is your conscience?

Women have no value outside being mothers. Men are men and therefore useful.

Men don't do the IMPORTANT thinking, that is why they think of politics so much.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/07/2024 17:49

I'm interested in both American politics and kittens. Don't think my female cat gives a damn about either though.
However since neither of us are mums perhaps our view doesn't count?

Typically people are MORE interested in politics of their own nation, men or women.

I've been following since Obama won. Then I watched in shock horror Trump winning. It didn't surprise me Nigel Farage and Trump were besties.
