If there was a GE today who would you vote for?

Bit cheeky but I’m curious to see if there are genuinely any Tory voters out there at all following another disastrous week for Rishi Sunak.

So who would get your vote?

I‘ll go first, I would vote Labour. As much as I would love to hear more on policy and a firm grittiness from them, I do understand that Keir Starmer is doing the best he can, in that he can’t alienate a large proportion of the electorate so needs to toe the line.

Labour- I work in a state school.

but how will the vat etc on private suddenly make state better ?

verdantverdure · 02/10/2023 19:52

It's batshit.

It must be some kind of conspiracy theory I assume.

I also assume theTories know the only demographic they have left is the people who believe batshit lies.

Hence all the baffling batshittery for those of us who have some kind of grip on reality.

I think one would find more sense and logic in batshit to be honest.

That may be because someone has thrown batshit all over it?

could be to mask one strategy ?

verdantverdure · 03/10/2023 06:11

@Mountaineer0009 I'll be amazed if there's any more to it than

"No one but the batshit will now vote for us so we are hitting all the batshit bases to ensure that the batshit vote for OUR batshittery and nobody else's"

It's like a Greatest Hits of what works for the Far Right in various countries, climate change denial, conspiracy theories and fascist tropes.

Not immediately but why should ordinary 20% tax payers have to subsidise the mainly extremely wealthy parents that expect a discount on their school fees?

That 1.7bn can go towards rebuilding RAAC schools for example.

i can understand your perspectives, but not everyone that goes private is wealthy, i presume

Howpo · 03/10/2023 09:40

Which to be fair is why i said "mainly"

Having worked in 2 middle ranking private schools, judging by the cars the parents own, money is not an issue for most.

The wealthy usually always want to hold on to what they ve got, its why they are rich.

Firstly private school fees are exempt from VAT as are all educational services such as after school clubs, nursery fees, university tuition fees etc etc.

Secondly there is no subsidy from the 20% taxpayers to wealthy parents sending their children to private schools. In fact the wealthy parents subsidise the cost of state education by paying taxes for it but then do not use it. So if you are concerned about funding for state education then private schools are a good thing.

Sadly I think your own politics of envy are clouding your views rather than being based on facts.

Ha ha so you know me and that i'm motivated by envy? really! thats as ridiculous as me saying you re motivated by greed and want to avoid paying tax?

Personally, i leave the insults to those on the right, they never disappoint.

That £1.7bn either has to come from the tax take pot or it can be raised by taxing schools fees, times are hard and laws on what is VAT exempt or not are going to have to change.

Not the Tories

Insults always come from the left. They are intolerant, maybe why women can't do well in the party or minorities compared to the tory party. Labour have more female mps but less senior females for example.
This is why the tories often win, pragmatic and tolerant approaches over ideology.
Highly unlikely to win this time as they have gone a bit squiffy, plus shifted quite far so true tories struggle to identify with the nanny state high tax current party.

How does that figure with the hate, rape & death threats sent to Diane Abbott (received 1/2 of all hate threats to MPs) Jess Phillips even has panic alarms fitted to her house.. or Emily Thornberry and Angela Rayner?

We've had 2 MPs murdered, one Labour and one Conservative.

We aren't going to stop the scourge of hate threats directed towards women MPs if we trivialise it to a Left vs Right issue.

Cattenberg · 04/10/2023 11:33

I think there’s still sexism in the trade union movement. And there are some left-wing men on Twitter who are clearly LOVING the opportunity given to them by trans activism to publically scold women.

However, people with conservative values appreciate tradition and that usually includes some degree of gender stereotyping. Not surprisingly, these people tend to vote for centre-right or right-wing parties at General Elections.

Anyone considering voting Tory should watch "Partygate" and see if you still want to do so. Utterly despicable.

I know it's going to make me so angry and sad.

Because that's a fact based documentary with zero dramatisation.

Tnree in a row amazing, like buses.

Should we instead of believing a carefully researched TV piece, believe the Prime Minister of the time who was found to have lied repeatedly to parliament, or perhaps his Chancellor who sat next to him and did nothing even though he knew his boss was lying about their law breaking?

MarathonBarbie · 07/10/2023 08:03

I’d vote Labour as they’re the only party who stand a chance against the Tory MP here, but it’s very unlikely they’ll win as the Tory majority is huge.
With a fairer voting system I’d be voting Green. I’d like to see a Lab / Lib / Gre coalition in power, hopefully conditional on seeing a move towards electoral reform.

Watch Partygate @GrannyRose15 @Mountaineer0009 and @Toomanylosthours. They make very clear what's dramatic licence.
