Assuming it's true.

I’m guessing it was during one of the debates which are often practically empty

Was it during prime ministers questions? Or was that just when it came out.

i rewatched it yesterday. We know it’s a front bencher who was sat next to a woman.
that narrows it down to about 4 men. I could see one woman glaring at someone’s phone.

I think it was the same MP seen on separate occasions - once by a senior female MP and once by a female junior minister.

I did wonder that, however your still overlooked by the galleries, the cameras and there’s always a few colleagues knocking about. It’s been done to be seen

have you been inside? It’s so very small and cramped.

EvilPea · 29/04/2022 09:34

Happy to be corrected as it’s a long time since I went but If memory serves me right it has seating for 150 MP’s.
it did feel like the kids school hall was bigger.

EvilPea · 29/04/2022 09:36

Weird how only the women saw.

was it done deliberately for them to see?
or have the men just turned a blind eye

no shits given at all?

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 29/04/2022 09:40

About 427 MPs can be accommodated in the HoC apparently (according to Wiki).

Wouldn’t be surprised - it’s a power thing?

They can’t fit. Churchill kept it to 150 seats

EvilPea · 29/04/2022 09:56

ive found the House of Lords measurements.
29.5 x 21
using the U.K. standard measurement system that’s, three double deckers by two

Even Parliament’s own website states that there are seats for 427 MPs:

Clearance of the site began in May 1945, and the new Chamber was completed in 1950. Designed by Giles Gilbert Scott along similar lines to the old, its small size (containing only 427 seats for 646 MPs) and confrontational design helps to keep debates lively and robust but also intimate.

EvilPea · 29/04/2022 10:01

it must be my memory playing tricks, it was a while ago I went, I was sure it was 150.

unless I’m confused about 150 on one side or something.

well I wouldn’t want to be caught in a fire with 400 in there.

EvilPea · 29/04/2022 10:03

Everyone should go on the tour by the way if you’ve not been. You just email your MP and they organise it, it’s free and it’s fascinating.

EvilPea · 29/04/2022 10:16

Anyway back to porn watcher instead of my failing memory GrinBlush

i find it really disrespectful when someone is giving a speech / asking a question and they are all sat there on their phones (the porn is obviously worse), It’s just rude.
its like their constituents issue doesn’t matter.

motherofchihuahuas · 29/04/2022 10:49

I wonder if someone had sent them a WhatsApp and they opened their message and it was porn. I reckon that's what they will say anyway.

Very true - and there's no way of knowing whether they were as shocked and horrified as the person who saw them open it unwittingly or if they were knowingly copping a good old look for the 10th time that day, unless they take their merry time 'perusing' it with a smirk on their face.

In which case you'd close and delete pdq.

That’s a good point. Dh has some friends who think it’s hilarious to forward clips.

however, he goes “for fucks sake”, and closes it as quickly as possible. Which I would expect anyone to do, whilst looking around sheepishly to eyeroll at anyone who happened to see.

Notonthestairs · 29/04/2022 11:38

"So at the moment two women have alleged a Tory MP viewed pornography in Commons but:

  • We don't know if it's being investigated

  • Even if it is investigated, it could go on for months

  • The chief whip has deferred to the independent process, mean no other action is being taken"

I don't feel like they are taking it seriously and I predict nothing will happen and we will never know who it was.

True - I don't know if this is the case here at all (probably not), but there are a lot of people who either find it funny or even enjoy the power of sending porn clips/images or photos of their own genitals etc. - completely unsolicited and unwanted - and the idea of your reaction and that of anybody who sees your screen when you open it.

It would be quite easy to be outed as a filthy old perv when you're actually a victim - like the digital equivalent of being blamed and shamed for walking past in the park/street when a flasher (deliberately) decides to pick his moment.

One of the female mps who has complained said that he was watching in in way as to ensure she saw and felt uncomfortable

Notonthestairs · 29/04/2022 12:54

"She told colleagues that she believed the man was aware she had seen him but he continued watching. A second female Tory MP said that she had also seen the man watching pornography. She said that she had attempted to film him as proof of what he was doing."

From the Times.
It doesn't sound like he closed it down quickly and it wasn't the first or only occasion of viewing it.

Notonthestairs · 29/04/2022 13:00

Sorry I meant to add that two incidents were reported concerning the same MP - one in the Commons, one in a committee meeting.

Which logically is the only reason you’d choose to view such videos in a busy work place.
your not doing it in the privacy of your own home, hotel room, even office (which would be bad enough). It’s not a private place.

felulageller · 29/04/2022 13:30

It won't take long to work it out.

There are plenty of clues!

-male
-Tory
-elected pre-2015

  • (believed to be) not a minister
  • one incident in HOC 19th-21st April 2022. At PMQs is less likely as it's so busy. So it could have been later on Wednesday for the 3 bills that day. Or Sajid Javid's health Q's on Tuesday or after. Or Anne-Marie Trevaleyn's Q's or later on Thursday. It won't take long to go through the videos of these.
  • he was also seen doing it during a select committee so cross reference who has been present at both
-the first woman is a junior minister who is on a select committee (could have been historical but implied as current) -this woman is not likely to be the couple who have publicly spoken out about it which leaves around 8 potential women. -cross reference the potential women with the potential men. -(another woman who is a senior MP also said she saw him watching porn in the commons on another occasion but there's not enough information from this to narrow it down any more).
lickenchugget · 29/04/2022 15:19

It’s out… it’s Neil Parish

never heard of him
