Fed up of the ConDems robbing the poorest and most vulnerable blind? Sympathetic to the squeezed middle? Have you eyes that can see the horrors that await the dismantling of our welfare state and all that is great and good in UK?

Then you're a frother. This is our safe-space to rally, vent and get organised. You are also welcome if you want to be better informed and/or do something.

If anyone wants an example of how not having a SureStart centre is actively compromising some community health services do please pm me.

To give you an idea: we don't have SS in my town although there are some geographically nearby. There were plans afoot to move child health, antenatal and postnatal services including breastfeeding support to the nearest SureStart. Unfortunately the area currently being served by existing provision is not accessible on direct public transport and would mean anyone unable to drive (lots of people don't run a car in London and c-section prohibits driving for a while) would struggle to get there.

The idea of having to take a train/bus and another bus plus potentially walk a long distance with birth injuries, older children and then fold the buggy on a packed bus that runs half as often as other services and is full of elderly users because it's their only means to get up a very steep hill is ludicrous. The reasoning? The SS centre is in an area of deprivation so gets the funding. The original area is not although there is a clinical need and considerable evidence that early intervention in child and maternal health leads to reduced nhs costs later. This area has a higher maternal age than most and consequently an increased risk of postnatal depression, c-section rates and other factors associated with older mothers.

A piece about the Scotland reaction as referred to above www.scotland.gov.uk/News/Releases/2011/12/21150319

madangelhairday · 22/12/2011 14:44

Just come on to say you are all excellent.

I haven't abandoned the cause. Just in hospital and had no internet access til today and now ver slow annoying internet, but seeing everyone on here just going for it is heartening.

Looking forward to getting out of here, then I can have my atos assessment! Yay!

Merry christmas everyone.

KnottyJustForChristmas · 22/12/2011 14:50

Piste, (And Mousey!)

Mouseface's bit on Surestart is to do with the difference it makes to her and her family. It is in combination with the benefits and services she currently receives and that are at risk so I think it should stay on Mousey's post, if you see what I mean.

I think it really does no harm at all to have Surestart mentioned in more than one post: it is such a lifeline to many and not having it will make such a difference to people who have gained from it. We need it emphasised.

MmeReindor · 22/12/2011 14:59

Mad
hope you are doing ok, glad you are out of hospital.

I have had an most EXCELLENT day and am done with frothing.

Well, not done but decided not to let it bother me too much.

Good idea with a break over Xmas. I could do a Frother Roundup post to put under a Dickensian pic - just a link of the most popular posts since we started? So that if anyone does click onto the blog, they will be taken around.

Got to go and pick up the kids. Will be back later.

KnottyJustForChristmas · 22/12/2011 15:00

I think far too many people, due to some of the media and some frankly appalling Gov PR, see 'single' benefit cuts. All reported on on an individual basis. And, of course, all for 'scroungers'. So they don't consider the situation for people who face having more than one benefit cut.

Because they have no experience or real understanding of how the benefit system works, with any knowledge gathered only via a biased media, they do not consider that for many the situation is terrifying and and quite desperate.

KnottyJustForChristmas · 22/12/2011 15:01

Sorry, meant to say that was my reasoning for keeping Mousey's post intact.

madangelhairday · 22/12/2011 15:20

Still in hosp Mme but looking like I'll escape with home IVs on Christmas Eve

Connection so slow I can't get on the blog or on twitter at all. But better than nothing. I feel less lonely now Xmas Smile

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 22/12/2011 15:21

Mousey's post should definitely stay in tact, it needs to stay as one, I was just confused by talk of it being split.

MmeReindor · 22/12/2011 15:28

Whoops, sorry Mad. Was reading too fast.

Good that you will get home in time for Xmas.

I am packaging a massive stink bomb to send to fecking BT

AChristmouseTail · 22/12/2011 15:42

Can you link me to the page that my post is on Knotty - I'm struggling to navigate around the blog/website..... Grin

KnottyJustForChristmas · 22/12/2011 16:14

Mouseface, my love, it isn't 'live' yet.

I've just put it in our draft/edit section so you won't be able to see it unless you have a blogger's invite and can log in to the site.

Do you want me to change anything before it gets posted?

SenseofEntitlement · 22/12/2011 16:19

So, if I want to submit a post, how do I go about doing it?

SenseofEntitlement · 22/12/2011 16:20

Oh, also, my MP is Shadow Children's Minister - do you want me to make her aware of the site, or do you have some kind of official way of doing that? She is very nice :)

AChristmouseTail · 22/12/2011 16:20

Nope, I like it the way it stands, just a bit nervous I guess. I've never been asked by anyone to contribute my experiences and actually, my life to anything before.

Once it goes 'live' could you then please point me to the right place?

Thank you lovely xx

IslaDoit · 22/12/2011 16:28

SOE if you pm me your gmail address I can set you up as a blogger on frothers

garlicnutcracker · 22/12/2011 16:42

Thanks for checking the redirect, everyone, and for your kind comment on the numbers post. Xmas Smile and also Xmas Angry

(fangry should be a word, definitely)

Am going to catch up on posts and links after I've eaten all the mini stollen done a few things.

Can do Xmas Day pics if needed, but Mme Chocolate Reindeer Wink will probably do it better. Looking forward to your post, Mousey!

KnottyJustForChristmas · 22/12/2011 16:48

Gah! I have no mini stollen Xmas Shock I must get that sorted.

Mousey, I'll message you with a link as soon as it is up on the blog. At the moment, I've credited it to 'Mouseface'. I can still change that if you feel nervous.

It's a great post by the way. Xmas Smile

It could go on tomorrow unless someone else has something.

AChristmouseTail · 22/12/2011 17:20
