Just starting a new thread as the old one was full.

@OMG12

I think we're probably fairly similar. I'm with a pretty 'hands off' church in terms of what is expected - the services are just there to join in with. Which suits me. All the rest, I do myself, charitable giving etc. I find ways to engage in exploring interpretations and discussing them myself. I find I lack clarity when people bombard me with too many tasks and ideas.

But yes, some people do feel better within a more structured church community with stronger boundaries.

For me his death as a single point of enlightenment, inevitable iver which he had no control. His life was a guide on living and how to get to enlightenment.

his resurrection, whilst important, was again an inevitable result of his death, again it was his life that enabled him and us to get there.

I believe it is all important. I think the message should be taken (as far as possible) holistically. Of course, a human beings, we will, inevitably find more attachment to one part over the over. Personally, I find the message of suffering extremely difficult but the one of hope and healing and miracles is much more palatable. Yet they are both there.

I did have a dream recently where I was given a cross to wear. It had a beautiful chain with different coloured jewels attached all the way along it. I looked at myself in the mirror wearing it as I out it on. I was wearing a white frilled cotton blouse. As I looked I saw the cross didn't hand correctly, it was falling over. So I took it off and looked closer. The chain was strung incorrectly through loops on the cross. So I restrung it and put it back around my neck.

The message for me? If you attach yourself disproportionately to one part of the message the cross doesn't sit correctly. Plus the attachment (the chain) is also very beautiful. 🙂

Shameless derail here, but I also had a dream recently!
I was walking along a harbour in very stormy weather and a fish called out to me from the harbour wall, where it had been washed up. It begged me to throw it back into the water, so I quickly scooped it up and did just that. The waves were very choppy when I threw it back in but as soon as the fish hit the water it all disappeared and I could only see the muddy wet sand, as if the tide had gone back out. Any thoughts?

Lovely dream, @Vincitveritas, 🙂

My interpretation?

You act quickly and respond. Save a life which a storm might have taken. Then that life goes back to being lived in the midst of everything that was going on and it moves on (tide goes out) and you have done your part. There is little evidence left that you can see. But your actions were vital in saving a life.

I would interpret that dream as your strong unshakeable faith. You’re seeing a storm around spirit - specifically the Holy Spirit (the water) and your faith (the fish) being out of the water and potentially under threat. However you save your faith and put it where it belongs in the sea of the Holy Spirit to be renewed. This calms the storm and the sea goes back to its natural ebb and flow

unless your trying to conceive then it would signify good news.

either way a lovely dream

@faretheewell and @OMG12 Thanks guys, great interpretations. I was thinking along the same lines myself.
It gets a bit weirder - after some Googling, the species of fish was something that looked very very similar to a Pacific staghorn sculpin (never seen or heard of one as I'm British). Apparently it has the ability to breathe air when out of water and will move out from tidepools if conditions such as temperature or salinity deteriorate.
Thought you might like to know.😁

Wow!@Vincitveritas. That's some detail! The Pacific staghorn sculpin of your dream wanted to get back though. So maybe it wasn't the bodily survival issue that was upsetting it was not being in the sea!!!Did you know much about this fish before your dream?

faretheewell · 25/01/2023 20:18

Oh see now you didn't! Duh! I think this fact has blown me away a bit!😃

Wow that’s interesting if I was to factor this into my interpretation I would think that your faith is strong enough to survive even in what would be seen, ordinarily, as inhospitable conditions which might destroy the faith of others. A wonderful thing

Apologies, got distracted!

@faretheewell It was really distinctive - my general knowledge of fish isn't bad but I'm not an avid ichthyologist by any stretch!

@OMG12 That's a lovely way to look at it and I hope you're right.
