medium told me something astonishing

I've been chatting to a nice man online recently, we're just pen-pals. Yesterday he told me he was a medium and then asked me where I'd got the scar on my left kneecap from.

I had a vague recollection of a scar from childhood on my leg somewhere and had a look. And there it was, exactly where he said. I'm a spiritual person but it amazed me. When I asked him how he knew, he said that a lot had been coming through about me and that he could talk to me because I was known to be true to my word (this is largely correct).

Obviously he couldn't have made something as specific as this up, so it's telling me that there must be a world of spirit....What do others make of it?

I have childhood scars on my kneecaps - and my hands and arms. I guess most folk do. Kids fall over a lot.

Most people like to think they're "true to their word".

This man is not magical or a medium in any way, he's a cold-reader. (And probably a warm-reader too, if you tell him anything about yourself...)

(For either kind of reader, read "con merchant". Sorry.)

Thank you OLKN - I've looked up both those
terms and of course you're right. Just a coincidence that my scar is on my left knee and not my right arm! Suppose he must do this with everybody...

Yup, that's how it works. Glad you're not too upset at having been taken in.

Portofino · 19/03/2010 22:21

I have a scar on MY left kneecap. Bet lots do.

Scrudd · 19/03/2010 22:23

Do you have any pictures of yourself on facebook, where you've got bare legs?

bran · 19/03/2010 22:24

I have a scar on my left knee, just as OLKN has said probably most people have a scar on at least one knee because all children fall over. I expect there's some correlation to being right or left-handed, ie right-handed people might be less able to break their fall on the left side, so more likely to have a scar on the left knee. Most people are right-handed, therefore it's a reasonable guess that most would have a scar on the left knee.

No, not upset, just feel a bit silly. And just goes to show, 3 out of 5 posters on here have scars on their left kneecaps!

Does anyone actually believe in people with true psychic abilities?

well I saw a medium once and he asked me to think about someone and he then said that she had committed suicide, going into some detail (which was true),and came out with a lot of strange things like that so my jury is out.the oddest thing was that as he was talking about my friend who had died he started to sound like her and have her mannerisms.

expatinscotland · 19/03/2010 23:23

A real medium can't read like that, anyhow.

Curiousmama · 19/03/2010 23:25

I believe they're are mediums and psychics as I'm a spiritualist. I go to development classes and have linked with spirit and also worked psychically.

This guy is trying to gain your confidence and impress. Beware!

I'm fully appreciative of people being sceptical, I'd much rather that than gullible. I'm also a sceptic and don't believe all I hear or see. I look for the alternative and am often amazed at evidence. But there are people out there who meddle for fun. A real medium tries to prove life goes on, spirit exists. They don't fortune tell or play guessing games.

Don't feel silly though it's easy to be lulled into this.

Curiousmama · 19/03/2010 23:27

that's true expat, they don't conjure people up. Spirit are busy like us. They often know when you're getting a reading and will try to link with a medium but this also takes time, they learn to do it (in my opinion) Some learn quicker than others. Some spirit communicate better with certain mediums.

thelunar66 · 19/03/2010 23:27

another one with a scar on knee here.

expatinscotland · 19/03/2010 23:30

And some mediums just get hit over the head by spirits.

It can be very annoying and/or upsetting and unpleasant.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 19/03/2010 23:36

I am sceptical about most "mediums". But my mum was dragged by her SIL to see one once. She had just had a molar pregnancy, and hadn't even told her mum about it. Apparently the medium singled her out then told her "I see you are worried about a growth in your womb- but don't worry, it has no roots" (later proved to be true- she was clear from cancer!) Don't see how that could have been a guess, really, but I do agree that most are charlatans and work on probability!

zazen · 19/03/2010 23:41

I have a scar on my left knee as well - are we twins?

The only medium I like is a happy one [GRIN]

Curiousmama · 19/03/2010 23:41

If you go to an SNU church you won't find many charlatans as they have strict rules. Plus the mediums don't get paid when they work the rostrum. They get expenses which covers petrol but that's it. Not saying all the mediums will give amazing evidence of life eternal as some are better than others. Also they can be having a bad night, they're only human after all. But I'd advise anyone curious about mediumship etc... to visit a church first. They won't try to convert you at all and are usually friendly places.

zazen · 19/03/2010 23:43

And that post was for my other twin!!

Nemofish · 20/03/2010 16:10

I am a bit of a spiritualist, a believer and a psychic / healer as well...

However I also have a scar on my left knee and I advise you to tread warily, OP!

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 20/03/2010 16:13

Another scarred kneecap here - I would be very wary.

coldtits · 20/03/2010 16:14

I have a scar on my left kneecap too.

I don't think I know ANYONE who doesn't have some sort of childhood mark on their knees!

PuppyMonkey · 20/03/2010 16:19

i haven't got a scar on my knee. I feel very left out now.

A colleague of mine (journalist) interviewed some medium/magician type the other day who apparently told her all sorts of amazing things like what her daughter's name was. I pointed out that she has actually written about her daughter on numerous occasions, mentioning her name. And he probably just googled her beforehand or something. She felt a bit foolish after that!!

sh77 · 20/03/2010 21:00

I have been to a psychic who told me very specific things - no cold guessing at all. However, what I don't understand about mediums is the mundane info they tell people - mostly telling you stuff about yourself that you already know. So what? Don't mean to offend anyone.

LynetteScavo · 20/03/2010 21:04

I have a scar on my left knee cap. A big one from when I fell of a moped. (It was stationary at the time )

Bumperlicious · 20/03/2010 21:16

I have a scar on my left knee from falling over drunk one new year's eve

Also this:

'I was known to be true to my word (this is largely correct)' is also something that everyone probably thinks is true about themselves.

There is a theory with a name I can't remember which is basically that everyone finds something that they think is true of themselves in horoscopes/personality tests etc.
