medium told me something astonishing

I've been chatting to a nice man online recently, we're just pen-pals. Yesterday he told me he was a medium and then asked me where I'd got the scar on my left kneecap from.

I had a vague recollection of a scar from childhood on my leg somewhere and had a look. And there it was, exactly where he said. I'm a spiritual person but it amazed me. When I asked him how he knew, he said that a lot had been coming through about me and that he could talk to me because I was known to be true to my word (this is largely correct).

Obviously he couldn't have made something as specific as this up, so it's telling me that there must be a world of spirit....What do others make of it?

Oh FFS, whenever you meet someone who claims to have psychic powers, all you have to decide is whether this person is a self-aware con artist or a deluded well-meaning berk with good empathic and observations skills (ie an instinctive cold reader as opposed to a deliberate one).
Because those are the only possibilities.

ShinyAndNew · 20/03/2010 21:28

I don't have scars on my knee caps. One on my shin, but none on my knees.

My sister and my mums best friend claim to be mediums. They are both scarily accurate. My sister described the house I am now living in and it's furniture and DH's grandmother (it was her house) before I had even seen it.

However niether of them could work online. They need something personal of their 'clients' to hold or they need to be close pysically to that person.

My sister won't work for money because of her own personal beliefs. Most of the time she won't even pass on 'messages' because she is emmbarassed and worried people will think she is crazy. She has no reason to lie to anyone about what she sees/feels.

I have one on my left kneecap from a climbing fall.

One on my right from running out of our building one night in Denver whilst drunk and excited. In Birkenstocks.

Surgery scars on both, too.

mrsruffallo · 20/03/2010 21:49

I do believe there are genuine mediums out there, but pretty few and far between. And non, I imagine, who would do it over the phone/internet

juneybean · 20/03/2010 21:55

My auntie and cousin have been to the same medium and he's rated quite highly, I'd quite like to see him but how I can be sure he's "real" if you know what I mean.

And I have a scar on my left kneecap also

did you hurt your knee? :P

SolidGoldBrass · 20/03/2010 22:47

I believe in mediums the same way I believe in petites and extra fucking larges.

But all those of you convinced that there reeeeaallly is something out there are welcome to contact me for a reading. £500 the half hour, cash only.

serinBrightside · 20/03/2010 23:51

LOL at SGB

Some girls from work went to see a famous Liverpool spiritualist a few years back and he answered the door in his dressing gown as he had forgotten the were coming

Eurostar · 21/03/2010 00:18

Scars on both knees here.

TidyBush · 21/03/2010 00:33

I've just seen on the news that a dangerous medium has escaped from prison. The only descripton available is that he is very short.

Police are warning the public be on the lookout for a small medium at large.

Ba boom tish

Onestonetogo · 21/03/2010 00:40

Scar but on the right knee.

He's a con (like all mediums). Be very wary.

SolidGoldBrass · 21/03/2010 01:58

Ooh, the spirits are telling you to give me lots of money and sexual favours or at least buy me a pint. There's someone very close to you who's name begins with a letter of the alphabet. And you sometimes find it hard to trust the people you meet, the spirit world is telling you to let go of your mistrust and fear. And buy me a pint.

ShinyAndNew · 21/03/2010 02:27

@ SGB. I don't know. The sensible, cynical side of me tells me not to believe. Despite (or because of) my upbringing (did you know that aliens visit us regularly? And at some point soon we are all going to die? Or emmigrate to the US?)

But aside from aliens and me moving to a country whose TV shows I can barely bare to watch, my sister comes out with some sense.

A lot of which I fail to be able to explain. If she is just intuitive. She is fucking good.

Curiousmama · 21/03/2010 07:08

Mediums who aren't looking to make cash are really trying to prove life goes on, give evidence so to speak. They should be able to describe your loved ones, their personality, traits and things specific if they're linking well with spirit. They want to give comfort to those who've lost their loved ones.

It's good to be sceptical though. I still am when getting messages as some mediums resort to psychic if they're struggling. Everyone can work psychically if they want to develop it, some are naturally psychic. Every real medium is psychic but not all psychic's are mediums.

Spiritualism is a recognised scientific based religion so I can take sceptics no problem but am not so keen on piss taking. But I am on a public forum on the internet so have to put up with it.

JollyPirate · 21/03/2010 07:39

Okay - am undercutting SGB by £50 - only £450 to see me.

Pumphreydidit · 21/03/2010 07:48

Can anyone reassure me please? In a moments boredom I googled 'fortune telling' and wanted one of those instant readings.
Now I am receiving emails which are getting quite frightening (yet some very accurate details)- the last one said that I only had a couple of days then hinted that there was only darkness etc.....

I normally have a healthy scepticism but am now left terrified.

GoodnightNobody · 21/03/2010 07:49

scar on right knee (from falling asleep on a pair of scissors when little).

girlsyearapart · 21/03/2010 07:59

scar on left knee..

JollyPirate · 21/03/2010 08:00

Block the address Pumphrey - it's amazing what these people can find out about you with only a few details - or even what they can accurately guess from those few details.

Go into your email settings and block them - if you cannot then mark them as spam so they go straight into bulk.

It's bollocks - you do know that don't you? I will see you back here next week because you will still be around then. Couple of days indeed. Tsk!

JollyPirate · 21/03/2010 08:02

What website did you use? If it6 was free I am betting there are extra bits on your emails asking you to visit them for more accuracy (for which they will charge). Internet watch people need to know about this.

Pumphreydidit · 21/03/2010 08:14

The website is tara-medium.com and is based from Hong Kong. Yes, they asked for money (I have not sent any) and it has dropped from £139 to £19 to 'unblock' the forces that are doing black magic against me.

I know this is complete woo but isn't there something terrifying at having the seed of a notion planted. It does not help that I am very down just now and tend to gloominess like Eeyore.

All I originally sent was my 'junk mail' email address.

JollyPirate · 21/03/2010 08:22

Pumphrey - you are down and these people prey on those who are feeling this way. Most people who visit their site will just junk the future e-mails without a second thought but the parasites behind this site know that a small proportion will pay (for whatever reason) just because they receive the e-mail at a time when they are down.

If it makes you feel any better about this just remember that this money probably finances crime - that will probably strengthen your resolve NOT to give the buggers a penny.

Sorry you are feeling down - just look after yourself (and your cash). Spend it on something nice and pampering for yourself if you have that money spare.

Pumphreydidit · 21/03/2010 08:27

Thank you JollyPirate

asdx2 · 21/03/2010 08:33

I have a scar on my left knee too as do both my daughters and one of my sons.Sounds like it's a pretty safe bet for someone trying to con you.

SolidGoldBrass · 21/03/2010 10:15

Yeah, right, Pumphredy - and it might rain hammers. Look, these crooks are just after your money, the request will come in the next email or two and once you hand over your credit card details the 'eeeevil' will magically disappear. As will all your money. Just laugh at them and ignore.
