Mediums / Psychics

Hi,

Last week I went to see Colin Fry with friends. I have always been sceptical about so called Psychics, but went because my friend got tickets.

After the show, I'm still a sceptic and although some of the things he said in the second half of the show were more accurate, I got the impression it was all staged and the people selected for a "contact" were perhaps plants.

Has anyone been to such a show or had a reading with a Psychic? What did you think, how accurate was the Psychic? Or do you think they are just well trained in picking up micro signs and body language?

Thanks

have you ever watched Derren Brown - i think thats how these stage show psychics work.

having said that i have seen a medium at a spiritualist church for a reading and she was astounding. i go to her every couple of years or so. she doesnt do it for money and is in a different league to the stage show variety.

magicOC · 26/02/2010 22:37

I have written this before, don't know where the thread is tho.

I saw a woman at a spiritualist church who was spot on. No way could she have known what she told me. There could have been so very many "guesses" she could have come up with. If that was a guess, she should pick the lottery numbers.

I also went to a show where Colin Fry, TJ higgs and Tony Stockwell were performing. I'm not sure, would be the answer to your question re plants.

Monadami · 27/02/2010 01:58

Thank you. I think I will try a Spiritualist Church. If they likes of Colin Fry and TJ Higgs are genuine, they've probably lost their way to a degree, as I feel it's purely a business opportunity to them now.

My aunt and cousin have used the same local one and he comes out with some stuff that you just wouldn''t know and it's absolutely amazing. I would like to see him too.

solo · 27/02/2010 02:08

I personally think CF and Derek Acorah are fakes. I've been to quite a few mediums/psychics over the years and also the Spiritual church and had amazing readings. Looking for a recommendation for another atm that is local and doesn't charge the earth.

magicOC · 27/02/2010 11:30

Solo, my sister went to one who didn't charge as such, she just asked for a donation of whatever my sis felt comfortable with and how happy she was with the reading.

This again was a woman who clearly knew her stuff.

The church I had my reading in was also donations only, all money going towards a new building accessable to all as the one they have at the moment has at least 40 steps with no wheelchair access either.

Years and years ago (about 30ish?) a neighbour answered the door to a very well dressed, well spoken older lady, I think Romany Gypsy, can't remember exactly. The woman caught a glimps of my dad who happened to say hi to the neighbour and she was able to tell my friend my dads health problems with his heart, epilepsy caused by a knock on the head at work (where did that info come from? She was spot on by the way). Neighbour invited her in for a cuppa an sai afterwards she had been the most genuine person she had ever come across. She told my friend things no one new about.

It just proves there are people out there who do have the gift

I used to read the playing card, but haven't done much of it since I got ME as I find it too tiring. I didn't charge either. I'd often just stand next to people who were talking to me and I'd get pictures of words in my head and sometimes pictures of a scenario and be able to tell people stuff even if I'd never met them before.
I was standing next to a bus driver once who was saying that his wife had died that year. I had never met him before(I was route learning in a new garage)and I kept getting the letter E in a fancy style in my mind's eye and then a voice was telling me Emma, Emma...I was a bit unsure so asked him his wifes name. Turned out to be Edna. It's not always clear. He was the one who told me where the local Spiritualist church is as I was new to the area.

Dangerous stuff - don't mess with the dead or they'll mess with you IMO.

chubbasmum · 27/02/2010 23:42

i had a strange encounter myself must have been 15 years ago i think i have just got the bus from work (Christmas eve ) i remember i was rushing to Tesco before it closed for the holiday all of a sudden an elderly man grabbed my hand and said dont worry you will have that baby you long for and i told him thank you very much im already pregnant and he replied i dont mean the girl i mean the boy remember the old blue door. I didnt think anything of it until the other day when i had problems opening my door and my neighbour said to me that old door of yours which used to be at a certain pub near where i live, and yes i did yearn for a baby -boy or girl i didnt care hes now almost 2 everything just came flooding back. I did have problems getting my baby i even gave up after a misscarriage and a divorce . I just wish i could remember his face

So yes i think some are genuine and some are fake,

solo · 28/02/2010 00:07

It's all relative zozzle. When you actually see and feel spirits around you, it's hard not to be involved with them. They've never harmed me anyway.

magicOC · 28/02/2010 00:12

Zozzle, I was brought up with that same attitude and I would never never mess about myself with the glass or oijy (SP) boards as was always told they were evil.

However, you can't ignore your own sightings either. I have had 3 experiences personally, no dabling with any cards/boards glass or such like.as i'm terrified of them, but, going to see that woman she confirmed to me exactly what one of the sightings were and no way would she have known that.

I don't want to know how they do it, and now this late at night i'm probably going to have nightmares

omaoma · 28/02/2010 00:17

i completely think there are more things in heaven and earth etc etc, but imo nearly every uncanny psychic reading can be put down to skill and luck. cold reading can bring amazingly accurate results (see derren brown, above)... and you know sometimes it's also about luck that they hit some kind of nail on the head! it seems uncanny to you but you don't know how many people before you had 'crap' readings that meant nothing, they just struck lucky with that particular detail with you. re stage shows, famous medium Doris Stokes received loads of letters from people about their woes asking for her help - they would be meticulously filed by location so she could then 'miraculously' retrieve all these details about audience members, who of course had come to see her having written, at the relevant show...

magicOC · 28/02/2010 00:50

Omaoma, my reading was a bit too accurate.

LittlePushka · 28/02/2010 01:01

LOL at magicOC "oijy" ..though i cannot attempt the correct spelling meself!

magicOC · 28/02/2010 01:04

At least youknow what I meant.

LittlePushka · 28/02/2010 01:10

still laughing now!!!

IS ANYBODY THERE???!!!!

sallyjaygorce · 28/02/2010 01:13

Still awake? That's the spirit!

LittlePushka · 28/02/2010 01:17

Tap once for yes,..twice for no!

solo · 28/02/2010 01:19

The one thing I haven't and would never touch is a ouija board...they are dangerous.

magicOC · 28/02/2010 01:24

LittlePuska, you had me in stitches as well when I re-read it back. Sounds like something else .

Solo has come up with the correct spelling.

Not sure I can sleep now.

One scary experience was when I went to bed saying "if there is anything here i'd love to see it" never again.

magicOC · 28/02/2010 01:25

Have you done the glass Solo?

sallyjaygorce · 28/02/2010 01:29

I'm off to bed. Good night spooky ladies.

LittlePushka · 28/02/2010 01:31

(magicOC...rather like the sound of an oijy board , though knowing my luck I'd be the one to whom the glass did not point!)
