Mediums / Psychics

Monadami · 26/02/2010 01:19

Hi,

Last week I went to see Colin Fry with friends. I have always been sceptical about so called Psychics, but went because my friend got tickets.

After the show, I'm still a sceptic and although some of the things he said in the second half of the show were more accurate, I got the impression it was all staged and the people selected for a "contact" were perhaps plants.

Has anyone been to such a show or had a reading with a Psychic? What did you think, how accurate was the Psychic? Or do you think they are just well trained in picking up micro signs and body language?

Thanks

No,not the glass! I've used many other mediums though...
Crystal balls, pendulums, the cloth(can't recall the proper name)that you can question like when you can't find something, tarot's, playing cards, rune stones...healing crystals. Shall I go on?!

magicOC · 28/02/2010 02:16

Lots then

Was just curios as those were the two (ouija/glass) that I had always been warned about.

I never realsied there were so mamy different ways.

Have you ever had any "bad" experiences? If you don't mind me asking.

shabbapinkfrog · 28/02/2010 02:29

This subject fascinates me. I have had four wonderful sons but two of them have died so I am very interested in mediums and I am always searching for answers.

I took my lovely Nan (she died about 7 years ago) to our local spiritualist church. We got in the church and sat down. Everybody there was very excited because it was a local medium who was becoming very popular.

He came to the front of the church and just stared at me....then he said 'I will be back to you in a minute your two little lads need to speak to you.' I was always joking around with my Nan and i said 'Im off' - she started laughing and made me stay in my seat.

The medium said 'I can see two coffins, a tiny little white one and a bigger pine one.' 'The second boy who passed over said 'Mam (my DS3 always called me that - never mum or mummy - aways Mam') it never hurt me it was like this (the medium clicked his fingers but couldnt do it - just like my DS3 couldnt do it) and Mam it was my accident not by purpose!' My DS3 always wanted to know if things were by accident or by purpose!!

He asked about the things we had put in DS3's coffin - things only we knew about....he was totally specific and named them with 100% accuracy even though they were obscure. I came away feeling amazing - feeling that somebody knew about my lads.

I have readings from him several times and a few years ago a private reading where he was so accurate it made me want to run a million miles LOL.

Thanks for all your input.

I would agree, there are genuine people with the gift out there, as well as charlatons who have managed to cash in on people's need for comfort and understanding.

If anyone can recommend a reliable, accurate psychic and/or spiritualist church in London or Surrey, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Shabs, I have seen you post about your DS's many times, so sorry you have had to suffer losses like that. X

What a wonderful experience it must have been for you tho to have contact with your boys. I think my heart would have leapt out of my body if it were me.

The first time I had contact (on my own, not a medium) I was afraid and actually said out loud "I can't handle this, i'm scared". I very much regret that as i'm sure it was my mum, but, I wasn't in a possition to apreciate that at the time, it was so frightening to me as i'd never experienced it before.

Monadami, me too pls I want to know as well.

magicOC · 28/02/2010 08:10

Shabs, is this guy still doing readings? Where in the country was this?

shabbapinkfrog · 28/02/2010 09:08

Yes he is still doing readings. We are in Lancashire and, Im not sure if he travels further afield. He is called James Byrnes (or Burns - not sure of the spelling)

shabbapinkfrog · 28/02/2010 09:15

I just googled James and, according to what I found he has given up mediumship????? Very weird indeed - will dig around in our area and try to find out more - the report I found said that he wasn't sure about it all anymore. Said he felt he was deceiving the public - if he deceived me he did a very amazing job!!

magicOC · 28/02/2010 09:41

That's a shame

Would be interested to know why he thought he was deceiving people

There will be people who will come on here saying yes it's all a con and he has just admitted it, but, you know what he said to you, I know what this woman said to me and no way was that a random guess.

I would probably travel to see a good one.

ilove, sorry, but, I would not go anywhere premium line places.

As said earlier there are people out there who charge next to nothing and have proved themselves to be acurate, I wouldn't entertain places that cost a fortune.

solo · 28/02/2010 23:31

MagicOC, no bad experiences. A few crap readings, but some totally fabulous ones too.
Actually, there is a chap that was a friend of my brothers years ago. He's very good.

He used to be in the London/Kent area, not sure where he is now, but THIS is a link to his facebook page if anyone wants to contact him.

magicOC · 28/02/2010 23:47

Oh thanks Solo, might just do that.

Managed to sleep ok last night even after frightening myself half to death

Like hearing about sightings etc and I am fascinated about it all, but, not at that time of night.

Glad to see MN deleted the link ilove left. Wasn't me who reported it tho, never even thought of that.

solo · 01/03/2010 01:17

I didn't see it.

I have actually been seeing orbs recently with my own eyes. Fascinating stuff!

I went with a friend to see a phsycic after her mother died (I was there as support, not to get a reading).
The medium was amazing, and told my friend stuff that even she hadn't known, and had to check up with other relatives before she found out that they were true!
The medium didn't charge anything, as she said that her talent (for talking to dead people I suppose) was a gift from God, and as such, she shouldn't be making money out of it.
She also said there were too many charlatans, whose only interest is making money out of grieving people. Those with a genuine gift don't tend to make much money out of it.
Apparently a sceptic has offered a million pounds to anyone who can display phsycic skills beyond a shadow of doubt. This lady said no true medium would ever try to do this, as it would be completely against their moral code of practise and also that the dead would not allow themselves to be exploited in this way.

SomeGuy · 01/03/2010 12:09

very convenient.

interestinglino · 01/03/2010 13:05

Yes, maybe, but then again, no-one has come up with a convincing explanation as to how some mediums get so many unique details with no fishing.

As an example, my friend was told that her MIL would be at her house when she got back (as they lived over 100 miles apart, her MIL never dropped in unanounced), the medium said about the MIL, "she won't believe a word you say, but tell her that her Dad has found his twin"
This made no sense at all to my friend, who told her MIL (who was at home when she got back). It turned out her father had a twin who died at birth. MIL knew but had told no-one else - even FIL and my friends dh didn't know.

SomeGuy · 01/03/2010 20:57

I've never seen any documented evidence that mediums get unique details right without fishing. If they did, I would expect to see more than anecdotal claims about them.

Sorry, I don't believe he's a fraud.

SomeGuy · 01/03/2010 23:36

have you seen him perform? Or are you just going by TV shows with the failed fishing expeditions edited out? www.time.com/time/columnist/jaroff/article/0,9565,100555,00.html
