I recently picked this up and love it, it’s my colours, fits beautifully, and no cleavage, but it has gold thread running through it- is that a no for confirmation? It’s not quite party-party dress but still I’m not sure. Appreciate a lot of people won’t like it, and that’s fine, my question is solely about the gold thread.

I really like it and I wore a green dress with gold flakes on it. For me I thought the gold made it look “special” and “celebratory” as opposed to a regular day dress!

Congratulations OP.
That is a beautiful dress.

I think you'll look fab. The bishop usually makes himself the star of the show for most of it so just sit back and enjoy yourself and your special moment. I was confirmed 33 years ago and I don't have a clue what I wore so its nice you get to remember it.
My DD was confirmed earlier in the year and there was a mix of outfits. Its more an afternoon tea with a posh auntie than a nightclub so your outfit will do just nicely. Please remember a vest, tights and a jacket. The church warden will still have the boiler under lock and key.

Lovely, can’t see a problem.

Looks fine. I can’t even see a gold thread jut even if it’s there, so what? Ugh

Massively depends on the church. All churches I have attended (as an actual congregation member, rather than for a wedding etc) would be absolute fine with that BUT I choose liberal churches - where there's absolutely no dress code - jeans, mini skirts, shoulders out and cleavage are all fine.

The fact you are asking about gold thread suggests to me that it's more high church?

I love the dress though.

I think it’s fine. I wore jeans and a tshirt for mine!

Speaking as a priest - it is lovely. If people ask me what to wear I say smart casual, meaning - "be tidy, but don't go to any great expense in buying something new". But people turn up in everything from brand new expensive suits/ frocks to people in jeans (and their guests tend to follow suit from what the confirmee wears).

Have a look at the bishop's rigout when they rock up; it's a festive service, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to spot a few touches of gold thread in their apparel!
A few discreet threads running through the fabric of your dress will pale by comparison.
Seriously, congratulations and have a great day.

Thanks again everyone. It was a lovely service this afternoon and yes, I was completely out-blinged by the Bishop!

(And if you are worried that everyone else dresses more modestly for church... Just turn up to a baptism of a non-regular church-goer baby. All the adult and teen guests dress like they are going to a nightclub in Newcastle. Best shirts, no jackets for the men, except if older when they will wear a jacket. Micro minis and towering heels for the women and girls, even sometimes for the baby's granny).

It has occurred to me that perhaps you are a guest - not a confirmand - the dress is lovely either way.

This is so true!
