Genesis 9:3, "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you".
1 Timothy 4:4 in the New Testament, the Apostle Paul states that "God created them [meats] to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth"
Jesus himself ate meat, including fish at the Last Supper and a Passover lamb

That was permission given after the flood when plants were scarce.

MargaritaPearl · 06/09/2025 05:54

Was this just a random thought you had or were you reading the Bible and came across the verse?

Halfhardy · 06/09/2025 06:49

EVERY moving thing? Well we've got loads of woodlice and ants in the garden, so that's dinner sorted!

Woompund · 06/09/2025 06:51

So?

superbakedpotato · 06/09/2025 07:02

The Bible says a lot of things, if you follow it to the letter you'll be wandering around in a burlap sack, with a hefty side beard, kissing everyone you meet, and yes, eating meat, but certainly not bacon or prawns. What's your point?

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 06/09/2025 07:05

Agree with @superbakedpotato , what's your point? Also, why are you getting lifestyle tips from the Bible. Are vegetarians & vegans sinners?

Good point, also, my husband moves a lot. Wonder if he'd go better with gravy or parsley sauce? 🤔

The bible was written a very long time ago, before factory farming became a thing and livestock started being injected with all sorts of nasty substances.

Would you also follow child rearing advice that was written 2000 years ago?

PollyBell · 06/09/2025 07:13

So do you live 100% the way it says in the bible? Or pick and choose which bits you follow?

MasculineProviderEnergy · 06/09/2025 07:17

Are vegetarians & vegans sinners?

Hardcore fundie types think so. And those who practice yoga are communicating with devils!

DarkForces · 06/09/2025 07:21

We have an excellent local steak house. God would approve.

WhereIsMyLight · 06/09/2025 07:25

When the bible was written, life expectancy was much shorter. Now medical research has come along significantly and we know a sausage a day is going to shorten your life expectancy by biblical standards.

Gordon1958 · 06/09/2025 07:27

It's animals fault for tasting so good!

ParmaVioletTea · 06/09/2025 08:48

This is the section of MN where we discuss lifting heavy weights for fun. Of course I suppose we could quote biblical texts at the same time.

But @IloveMeat is a spammer .

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 06/09/2025 08:50

Moving things you say?

-eyes up my fat cats- hmmm

HangingOver · 06/09/2025 09:03

Doesn't it also say you need to release two doves at the end of your period

And you get to have sex with your father to repopulate the world. Lovely book. Perfect to read while weightlifting.

You are allowed to eat is different from you should eat

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 06/09/2025 10:43

There also wasn’t a climate emergency at that time

hollyhillyhole · 06/09/2025 10:44

The bible was early law and designed to simply put the fear of god in you to force you to comply, with the threat of punishment in the after life if you sinned (broke the law)

Hence why there’s different religions (laws) in different countries

Sorciere1 · 06/09/2025 20:38

According to the Talmud from Adam to Noah people practiced vegetarianism. Many pious Jewish rabbis since Medieval times have promoted vegetarianism as a biblical ideal.

LeaningOnTheEverlastingArms · 07/09/2025 16:13

The New Testament teaching is that you can eat meat if you want, but it’s not compulsory!

The choice is yours.
