Talk to me about sound bath's and reiki

DontBePassiveAggresive · 18/06/2023 21:38

I went to one not knowing much about it with no expectations and I came out of it feeling energised, calm and happy this lasted for about 36 hours, it was great! I've been to a few more since then and it's felt relaxing and nice but it hasn't given me the same feeling afterwards. I wonder why that is. Anyone know?

I'm interested in hearing other people's experiences of them.

Is reiki similar? I only ask since the person doing it also does reiki and I wonder if I'd get that same feeling from that.

Can anyone tell me what's actually involved in Reiki.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply. So in practise is reiki like a massage?

Reiki is a scam, a placebo at best. Spend your money on an actual massage :)

It’s rather a case that I am not stupid and know reiki practioners ask for money for me lying down for 30 mins while you move your hands above me, which does precisely nothing.

MassiveSalad22 · 19/06/2023 14:26

I did a soundbath once and really needed to completely chill and be totally zen but I found it quite dark and unnerving. I mentioned this to someone in a similar field at a later date and she said something about hormones and different energy fields. Not a very clear explanation tbh so I am still a skeptic although want to not be.

Kanaloa · 19/06/2023 14:27

It’s probably because you expected it to work the first time and convinced yourself that it did. Or you were just lucky and your personal experiences lined up ti give you a good day and a half after this experience.

DontBePassiveAggresive · 19/06/2023 14:29

@Kanaloa I think you missed my first line I went to one not knowing much about it with no expectations

I mean realistically no matter how people describe it, someone putting their hands above you and ‘flowing energy’ into you isn’t going to stop heart palpitations or any other illness or difficulty.

@Kanaloa I think you missed my first line I went to one not knowing much about it with no expectations

And perhaps you missed my second part where I said maybe you were just lucky and happened to have a good day after paying for someone to stand around near you.

DontBePassiveAggresive · 19/06/2023 14:31

@Kanaloa no I didn't miss that part. Because I haven't had reiki. I had a sound bath.

Reiki is nonsense but sound baths are great. I’m not woo at all but I find them really relaxing and calming, if a bit odd to be lying under a blanket surrounded by strangers!

'Can anyone tell me what's actually involved in Reiki.'

At best nothing. It's utter nonsense. At worst, still nothing but with a money making scam thrown in.

If you’re talking to me, yes i have tried it thank you very much. It was bought as a gift for me at one place. And my dad used to date a practioner. It is literally a con.

Being more adventurous and trying a real, actual new food is a poor analogy. Not being willing to give magic beans a try is a more apt comparison.

Bloody love a sound bath.

Reiki, I’m not into woo stuff.

QueenVerilas · 19/06/2023 14:50

I’ve been to a number of events that have sound baths at the end. I’m not a big fan. I guess at best it’s quite relaxing but I’m usually glad when its over. I like a variety of meditative practices but sound baths don’t do it for me. I’d never pay for one.

Reiki is all placebo. Like most alternative therapies, it’s easy to construct rigorous scientific trials to assess if they have an effect above placebo, but that evidence base is not there because they don’t. However, the placebo effect is a real effect so if you want to pay for that, and can afford it, go ahead.

Everyone is so fecking judgemental. People spend their money and time on lots of things others might consider 'nonsense' - each to their own.

I really wish non spiritual people wouldn't come into this topic and literally shut down any discussion they don't personally agree with. So rude.

Lol. OP literally asked for people’s views/experiences on raiki. You only want her to hear one side?

PurpleChrayne · 19/06/2023 15:01

It is, as the French would say, a load of cobbleurs.

WildFlowerBees · 19/06/2023 15:06

There are studies on Reiki showing that it does have an effect on a persons wellbeing. That aside, there are some Reiki practitioners that have taken new age to a whole new level giving the complementary field a bad name.

Some call it Angel Reiki, Golden Age, Blue something etc etc all names given to the same thing. Energy. Reiki practitioners aren't healers I should know I am one. We don't possess magical powers, we are simply a conduit for energy. We aren't 'special' anyone can do it if they have a mind to and can allow their ego to step aside.

I don't practice, it all got a bit to woo for me and I am fairly witchy (apparently)

It's a shame because there's a lot to be said for complementary therapies however those who gravitate towards it are quite often a bit too left leaning which in turn makes those who deem themselves very normal believe it to be woo nonsense.

Try it, you might enjoy it. It's relaxing if nothing else but then so is a massage 😬
