Talk to me about sound bath's and reiki

I went to one not knowing much about it with no expectations and I came out of it feeling energised, calm and happy this lasted for about 36 hours, it was great! I've been to a few more since then and it's felt relaxing and nice but it hasn't given me the same feeling afterwards. I wonder why that is. Anyone know?

I'm interested in hearing other people's experiences of them.

Is reiki similar? I only ask since the person doing it also does reiki and I wonder if I'd get that same feeling from that.

Can anyone tell me what's actually involved in Reiki.

Thank you

@MariaVT65 we hear nothing but your side.

It’s interesting you say that, as I don’t see a post from you to give your view on reiki. You’ve just entered the thread to criticise us.

It seems the only people on this thread have a positive view of reiki are practioners. Everyone else knows it’s a placebo/con artistry. One of them now seems to have been deleted by MN.

Feel free to give your view on reiki so OP hears more of a balanced view?

There are studies on Reiki showing that it does have an effect on a persons wellbeing. That aside, there are some Reiki practitioners that have taken new age to a whole new level giving the complementary field a bad name.

Some call it Angel Reiki, Golden Age, Blue something etc etc all names given to the same thing. Energy. Reiki practitioners aren't healers I should know I am one. We don't possess magical powers, we are simply a conduit for energy. We aren't 'special' anyone can do it if they have a mind to and can allow their ego to step aside.

I don't practice, it all got a bit to woo for me and I am fairly witchy (apparently)

It's a shame because there's a lot to be said for complementary therapies however those who gravitate towards it are quite often a bit too left leaning which in turn makes those who deem themselves very normal believe it to be woo nonsense.

Try it, you might enjoy it. It's relaxing if nothing else but then so is a massage 😬

Do you have a link to a properly conducted study that showed an effect beyond that of placebo?

Well you need more than one study to show effectiveness. You really need a meta analysis of many rigorously conducted trials.

As for ‘studies have shown reiki is good for ‘well-being’. I am sure that spending time, even if you have paid for it, with someone who is interested in you, concerned for you, is nice to you and conducts some sort of ‘practice’ for your ‘wellbeing’ does make people feel good. That doesn’t mean the reiki practice had those effects. It means the other components are ones that tend to make humans feel good.

We need proprely conducted trials not just to see that there is an effect, but to isolate what exactly caused the effect.

I’ve tried sound baths , I went with high expectations but left feeling disappointed. I’ve tried Reiki twice . First could have been placebo , a lot of emotion was released . Second time , and a different practitioner, I saw extremely vivid colours , whilst my crown chakra was being worked on. I have never experienced that before, and it totally swung me from being sceptical to a firm belief. So much so that I’m going to try a one day course myself .

@Jezebell thanks for sharing! What did the seeing vivid colours do for you? Was there a lasting effect?
