HazelTheGreenWitch x post! Thanks for your kind words.
My DD is vigilant, she is a nurse, so will be keeping an eye on any symptoms, taking her own tempertaure etc.

HazelTheGreenWitch · 07/03/2023 12:35

Oh that's good, she'll know exactly what to look out for if she's a nurse.

speakout · 07/03/2023 13:01

HazelTheGreenWitch - you have posted useful information, I think it is good to be aware that Scarlet fever is doing the rounds, so we can be a little more vigilant. Especially as early treatment is so effective.

I was lying in bed last night- concerned for my DD of course- thinking about how soe humans think we dominate the planet. But in sheer number the microbes, pathogens, germs are actually the ones that have made a better job of colonising the planet!
We have no snow here yet, although it is very cold.
I energised some stones, cleansed a Tarot deck and made full moon water last night. I often forget to do these things.
I am on the hunt for a new fridge freezer today- I never enjoy spending money on such things- but they are essential. The one I have at the moment has gone haywire, it was left by the previous residents, they also left the receipt, it has lasted 15 years, so not bad.
It has a few faults, but the spare parts are obsolete, so I don't think it is worth repairing.
Seems sad to dump such a big thing, but will be stripped and recycled.
Growing up we had no fridge at all, funny how that was never considered essential. We had no central heating and no phone ( pre- mobile days), things we would struggle without now.
The full moon energy is high today, the zenith was early this morning.
This Full Moon presses us to find a balance between day-to-day functions and routines, physical health, and the need for order (Virgo) and vision, spiritual health, and the infinite (Pisces). Virgo rules the tools and techniques we use to deal with day-to-day life, while Pisces rules the tools we use to deal with our spiritual selves. It is a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs. It's time to express ourselves and let things out of our systems.
It's an eyes-wide-open time for our work, habits, health, and routines. We are likely to receive strong messages from our intuition.
I am all ears, as I try to extract myself from a very cuddly cat while I go to the post office.

Speakout I can still remember our telephone being put in at home, and that was 1983. Until then we had relied on using a neighbour's phone for emergencies.
I also remember my mum having a huge twintub washing machine, and though we did have a fridge our house also still had a huge cold-slab in the pantry and my mum used that too.

I am now on the road to recovery after having my Mirena coil removed last week. In just a week the anxiety that was sitting with me all day and night has gone. I'm definitely not back to my old self completely but my DH has remarked how much brighter I am.

Scarlet fever has been doing the rounds in my son's school. A couple of the children were hospitalised, including a boy in his class. It's been quite an anxious few months always wondering if the sniffles that are rampant at this time of year are something more sinister. We got caught by the anti-biotic shortage too, my DS was prescibed them after an OOH appt for his cough and we had to search pharmacies for stock.

Hello. I've been reading past threads and trying to find the right time to dip into this one and ask if it is ok for me to stay a while?

I realised today that there's never a perfect time to interrupt a thread- so apologies for jumping in.

I'm not a witch, (or maybe I am a fledgling witchlet but didn't realise it before now), but I have always been drawn to animals, nature, plants, freedom and women's power. More recently I've felt a stronger pull, and then I happened across a past mumsnet thread a month or so ago and read it out of curiosity.

I've been on mumsnet for about 17 years and never noticed a witchcraft thread before that first one- but I was moved and excited and curious by what I was reading and how much some of it resonated with me.

I've begun reading about parts of witchcraft and have found it fascinating and wonderful.

So here I am, 47 years old and feeling curious to find that a path exists which makes so much sense to me.

HazelTheGreenWitch · 07/03/2023 17:29

Hello @freckles20 👋

Bookist · 07/03/2023 18:07

Hello @freckles I'm very tentatively exploring paganism and witchcraft too. I've read a lot of the theory but have never put it into practice. There's always a comfy seat by the fire here and a hot cup of tea.

@queenrollo I had a similar very negative experience with the Mirena could too. It made my PMS much worse and lasted most of the month. Not all of the progesterone in the Mirena stays in the cervix, some of it enters your system, and if you're intolerant to progesterone it can lead to nasty side effects. Glad you're feeling brighter.

ISaySteadyOn · 07/03/2023 18:18

@freckles20 , you're where I am now. I am learning slowly and am fascinated. The more experienced women on this thread are really supportive and lovely.

And good at answering questions. @speakout, what is full moon water?

HazelTheGreenWitch · 07/03/2023 18:22

I've got that slightly nervous, slightly excited 'batten down the hatches' feeling that I always get when unusual weather is heading our way. It'll probably be a light dusting of snow in the end! I'd like to study meteorology as it's so interesting, probably a bit too old now though.

freckles20 · 07/03/2023 23:26

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

@HazelTheGreenWitch I'm watching my local forecast with interest. I work outside so it's nice to have an idea of what to expect but things seem to be changing rapidly in the midlands where I am.

speakout · 08/03/2023 06:56

freckles20 welcome- no apologies needed, always lovely to have newcomers, a cosy chair by the fire is waiting for you. Stay as long as you like, pop back when you need to, or make this a permanent room in your home! We look forward to getting to know you. We are a very mixed bunch, and all that adds to our strength.
queenrollo I am glad your anxiety has lifted. How interesting that it seems to be connected to the coil- a quick google seems to show that many others have had the same happen. Our mind and body are so interwoven and connected it wouldn't surprise me at all, and that particular area of research female reproductive health/mental health - "hysteria" would not be safe in the hands of the masculine big pharma monster.
ISaySteadyOn full moon water is water that is left outside during a period of time to absorb energies for future use, you can say an affirmation or add a crystal. Once charged you can use the water in spellwork, in tea, a bath, laundry, cooking, beauty regimes, cleanse crystals or equipment.
You can make different types of magically charged waters- ice water, snow water, new/full moon water, storm water, thunder water, sun water.
Another weather geek too, it's a fascinating subject. Never too late to study. I have been thinking of taking a course in social anthropology - and I have a bus pass!
Currently minus 10 here and clear skies, no sign of snow yet.
I jumped out of bed to get a coffee, and regretted not wearing my slippers in the kitchen.
It will be a hot shower, then off to the next village for a yoga class. I will get there a little early so I can sneakily turn up the heating in the hall. Thenair in the hall is quick to heat up but the floors remain frigid. I use a rubber mat which doesn't provide much insulation.
Enjoy the ice energy today sisters!

@speakout thank you for giving me a comfy perch by the fire. This is such a lovely corner of mumsnet.

It's a mere -2 here, nothing compared to the -10 where you are. I hope your home is warm? I am still cosy under my duvet and steeling myself to begin a few hours work outside.

I love the idea of ice energy and I'll try to keep that in mind today.

VioletCharlotte · 08/03/2023 11:18

I woke up to a couple of inches of snow. It looked really pretty at 6am, but it's already looking wet and slushy so I don't think it'll hand around for long. It quite often snows in March, it's like winter is having its last hurrah before spring takes its place.

I've been feeling very low the last couple of days. I don't think I have really processed my grandmothers passing yet and it hit my quite hard yesterday. Neither of my adult DC are in a great place either for various reasons, which is dragging me down too. I've taken a couple of days off work, but all I seem to have the energy for is laying on the sofa.

Probablymagrat · 08/03/2023 11:31

Our snow has been and gone, its just very cold rain now. @speakout Can I ask what snow water is used for? what is its energy? Not that I can collect some now, I rather missed the boat with that one.

speakout · 08/03/2023 12:15

Probablymagrat some interesting magical uses for snow water here-
www.learnreligions.com/yule-snow-magic-2562956

VioletCharlotte be kind to yourself, above all. Grief manifests in many ways, a loss takes time to process.
Feeling concern for your adult children adds to the emotional load, give yourself permission to pack up a few worries and have them on the shelf for a while.
I know if I am i an anxious or sad state of mind the whole circus can come out- may start as a concern about my child, my personal finance situation comes out for a lookaround, my worry for my OHs health joins in, fears for the future gatecrashes and before I know it I am holding a tea party for the anxiety crew.
And it can be hard to pack them off.
I notice my mood is a lot worse for lack of sleep, if I am well rested life in general is a lot easier to deal with.
Rest sounds good VioletCharlotte, nap, read a book, light a candle cuddle a cat, have some tea, anything that invokes feeling of comfort and being cared for.

Still no snow here, bright blue skies, and now above freezing, cold, but feels fresh and bright.
Keep warm friends!

Welcome freckles. Thats pretty much how I got here. My interest is in plants and herbs for healing, so a hedge witch or green witch.
Some of the others are more into spells, crystals, tarot etc etc. You will find your path.

God yes. The tea party for the anxiety crew. How well I know that one!

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/03/2023 16:54

@HazelTheGreenWitch never to old to study something you are interesting in. The question would be do you want to qualify or just learn. if it is the later there are lots of free courses to help. The OU used to have some open courses (short courses that were free) you have the usual gang of coursea etc for courses etc. And there are a few real good youtube channels. I like ryan hall because he live casts the weather and is really good at getting the science explainations whilst giving people the info they need to be safe also makes me glad of the UK's wimpy in comparison weather

I am down and out atm. bad pacing, lots of stress, doing too much, sleeping to little, eating rubbish and forgetting meds. Not really a good combo. But if i can get my act together i have a nice pile of books sitting in my cart that i would like to get around to completing the order on.

Thank you. There's so much to learn about- I'm trying to embrace the process and not rush but I've a tendency to hyperfocus...

freckles20 · 08/03/2023 23:31

@HillsBesideTheSea I'm sorry that things are tough atm. Insufficient sleep and unhealthy eating are a combination that I know well and that can be so hard to get a handle on.

I hope you feel a little lighter soon and can complete your book purchases. Are they witchcraft related?

speakout · 09/03/2023 06:09

freckles20 take your time, there is no rush, and you don't have to study subjects that don't interest you. It's OK to hyperfocus and take a deep dive into something that interests you, and never touch on other subjects.
There is no set requirement for your interests or knowledge.
You set the pace, you control the journey, you are in charge.

Snow arrived here last night, and is still snowing.. Very beautiful, but very cold.
Thankfully I have only a short trip to the post office this afternoon, otherwise staying indoors and keeping warm.
I notice wild birds are eating more at the moment, so I will go out to replenish the feeding tree at first light.
HillsBesideTheSea I hope you are feeling better today and had a replenishing sleep.
I will make an early start this morning- it's still only 6am. A little housework before I start work.
I have a pile of laundry to fold and put away, but I have crafted that task into a self nourishing ritual, always with a candle and something to listen to.
Do any of you use recorded/you tube/spotify affirmations?
I have been using them most days, and pleasantly surprised to have good results, and they are very soothing to listen to.
I have a new track I started a few days ago which is very powerful- perfect for laundry folding.
Have a great snow day sisters.

OP posts:
freckles20 · 09/03/2023 19:52

Thank you @speakout. I love the absence of 'requirements' in knowledge or interests wrt witchcraft.

I feel a sense that it is important that each person finds their own way. However, I am feeling around in the dark so to speak as there is an overwhelming amount of information thanks to the World Wide Web, and it is tricky to know where to start even in selecting books to read.

I thought I'd try my local library, but without success (although I suspect that if I'd been courageous enough to ask the librarians might have been able to help).

If anyone might be able to recommend any books, or audiobooks, podcasts or similar I'd be so grateful. The internet is a wonderful thing in many ways but it has bamboozled me with options which makes finding my own way feel overwhelming....

I have found a few YouTube videos of all things but they have been tricky to follow, or designed to sell me things.

I love the idea of turning mundane tasks into enjoyable rituals. Thank you for the inspiration. I'm going to try to give this some thought and create some of my own. I am not very good when it comes to keeping a tidy home and an organised life and I'm wondering if some witchcraft inspired rituals might really help me.

speakout · 09/03/2023 20:04

freckles20 there is so much information at our fingertips, it can be very daunting. Again I would suggest starting with you- and your interests.
What areas interest you?
Think about why you are drawn to this path, and what excites you.
Maybe herbal magic, or reading about runes, Tarot, tassiomancy or astrology. Colour magic or sigils, crystal grids or spellwork.
You are behind the wheel of the ship, and the great thing is there is no wrong turn. The worst that can happenn is you start a book or diving into a subject and you may decide it isn't for you- and that's fine. It's OK to read only a few chapters of a book and no more or change direction because you find something else that interests you.
Browse in a charity shop or a bookstore wiccan/new age section- books will suggest themselves to you.

OP posts:
freckles20 · 09/03/2023 21:06

Thank you for your advice @speakout, I will give it some thought.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/03/2023 06:35

@freckles20, I am similar to you with tidy homes and organisation.

If you want books from the library, the section you need is in nonfiction with the call numbers 000- about 100, I think. I used to volunteer in a library so I know the Dewey Decimal System.

And for bookshops, try here: www.watkinsbooks.com/

But if you actually go to that shop, you will probably lose an hour or three there 🙂.
