AIBU - people having fun on my "birthday" and not inviting me?!

So AIBU? Lets start a "heated debated"

Everyone I know is invited, invites have my name splashed all over them. Loads of pressies being bought for each other (none for me ). Everyone in the office talking about how they are going to get drunk and live it up ("it's for the kids" is all i hear though i fail to see why kids would want people to stock up on masses of beer/wine/vodka, when they cant have it lol) and now i hear that some invites have gone out and my name isnt even on them !!

What do you think? Should i be upset, or sit at home pleased that well at least people are having a good time, even if some of those that are going dont even know me?

Oh and the best of it is - they haven't even bothered to get my birth date right!! The organisers of the bash have chose a day that they know is the birthday of someone who hates me .

Why do people do this, and then continually moan about having to do it - even when I havent asked them to?

I don't understand the situation. In what way is your name splashed all over the invites? Do they say it's a b'day party for you?

you should be pleased for those who are celebrating your birthday and be annoyed with those who just want a party.

I would say that if people want to have parties, let them have parties. The more the merrier - the partygoers may not know you, but unless they go to your parties, they may never want to either.

who said you're not invited though?! seeing as it's a multi-venue party with multi-hosts you're probably invited to a good number and being who you are I'm sure you're capable of making an appearance at all of them. No hard feelings eh?

I don't understand the party being on the birthday of someone who hates you though....

the 25th was the roman winter solstice and the 23rd (i think) was the festival of saturn

Christmas is merely a celebration of the winter solstice that was hijacked by Christianity. I am very happy to celebrate it as I think it is just a nice way of cheering us up in the depths of winter.

and, maybe you have surrounded yourself with people who have made you inaccessible to everyone who wants to celebrate your birthday."you cannot be friends with x because you do this, this and this" can be very offputting

but if they really were my friends then why have they taken my name off the invite/ignored me for most of the year (most, not all, some do talk to me sometimes) and chosen a date of an enemy of mine/ and get legless and bloated when I never said i wanted them to, and actually my Dad's book has said we dont like that kind of stuff?

well, you shouldnt have turned your back on them and tbh, youre being ever so slightly petty. i used to visit your house all the time, but there are too many rules and regulation imposed by people who say they are your best friends and know you better than we do. its impossible to maintain a one way relationship.

I think you should go and be with the people who want you there for the party, and welcome you all year round.

But don't give up on the people who haven't made the best choices. Just keeping kicking the rest of your friends up the bum to tell everyone what an awesome person you are, and how you want to invite them to the party in spite of the fact that they really don't deserve to come.

and, your best friends set the date of the party, not the party goers. its more important that people want to celebrate than how they do it.
