Waking up at 3am to spraying/hissing noise

Hey 👋🏻 everyone
Twice in a few weeks I've been woken up to what it sounds like someone is in my bedroom spraying a can of hairspray or like a hissing noise. When I fully wake it stops. I'm not scared, I am Christian and I do believe in spirits etc I looked it up and it says it could be tinnitus?
Not sure I just feel that's not it.
Has everyone experienced this before ? Thanks XX

It was the gas meter in my house. Pipes in my friend's.

lilyrayne · 19/02/2020 03:30

My meter is outside so not that, pipes could be. But weird how it just stops when I stir isn't it

Saw a shadow demon once. Fecken knew it was there before I turned round and saw it. Could feel it looking at me. So I think if it was something 'woo' you would know.

More likely to be an electric appliance or the heating or something.

Probably just stops when you stir as it only goes for a fixed time and it takes you that long to wake.

Or...could you have mice? They're noisy little buggers. Could be running over a astic bag you have lying about.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 19/02/2020 04:13

Do you live alone? Are you sure it's not the pipes after someone has flushed the toilet?

happycamper11 · 19/02/2020 07:06

I often hear a someone knocking on my front door when I'm coming round and it wakes me up suddenly. I assume it's just a recurrent dream

whatswithtodaytoday · 19/02/2020 07:08

If it goes away when you fully wake then you're dreaming.

Jojoanna · 19/02/2020 07:08

I get the knocking on the door when I’m asleep too I wake up

happycamper11 · 19/02/2020 07:11

It's always when I'm beginning to wake up - or just drifting off. That's the time dreams seem most vivid and real.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 19/02/2020 17:02

The knocking on the door is probably the wind rattling your letterbox

FluffyAragog · 19/02/2020 17:04

@Pinkbonbon sorry, you saw a what now?!

TwinkleTee · 19/02/2020 17:07

It could possibly either hypnogogic or hypnopompic hallucinations (can't remember which one is which!) completely normal and really common. Have a google and see what you think...

Threelionsandalioness · 19/02/2020 17:11

@Pinkbonbon.... WHAT?!

Pinkbonbon · 19/02/2020 17:17

A ghosty lol. It's impossible to say 'I saw a shadow demon' without sounding looney lol. But after lots of reading to try get to the bottom of it - that's the closest thing I've found to describing it.

Basically a solid black mass shaped like a man. Horribke feeling of rage coming off it. Stood in the room right next to the bed for a good twenty min while I tried to ignore it. Maybe 5'10 in height. It shot into the room when I turned off the light. I was sitting up in bed, hadnt even laid down so yeah...

I know where it came from too... but I cant talk about that as it gives me the wigs more than the actual scary monster did lol.

You never expect to see something like that.

Compulsary: wasnt asleep, dont drink, dont do substances, very boring person lol.

So yeah...saw a ghosty lol. But dont think the thing was ever human.

Pinkbonbon · 19/02/2020 17:21

And I live alone. But it wasnt a person as you can hear a person move. And they cant move so fast. And no men have my house key lol.

And like I said, I know where it came from. Been here 5 years, yet only saw it that night. So too much of a coincidence. Definitely a ghosty. A very horrible angry ghosty.

Threelionsandalioness · 19/02/2020 17:27

Well...errm mm Shock
Just to say you super hero level of brave!
I would of instantly moved out! Hats off to you! I know I wouldn't of survived 5 years in a home where I had seen that x

Pinkbonbon · 19/02/2020 17:30

Yeh if it ever came back I'd be gone. But it was a one off. Due to my own stupidity. Luckily I must have been too boring for it to hang about.

Love ma wee hoose. No ghosts, just mice lol.

Touch wood it remains that way!

MaidenMotherCrone · 19/02/2020 17:31

It'll be a serpent trying to tempt you. DO NOT EAT ANY APPLES!

Pinkbonbon · 19/02/2020 17:32

Haha aww but I love apples. Can I give up bananas instead?

crazydiamond222 · 19/02/2020 17:35

We had a noise like this when the stopcock broke on the cold water tank in the loft

Threelionsandalioness · 19/02/2020 17:36

Oh yeeesss! Im "boring" too... (happy dancing with belief that being boring will keep demons away from me)
But seriously I hope you never see it again too x

Pinkbonbon · 19/02/2020 17:39

I actually look back on it as a good thing now because whenever I'm having a hard time I can be like 'pft, this is nothing in comparison to..'. Also I kinda think if there are things that horrible in the world then there must be things equally good too. Which I guess is a nice thought :)

But still, once was enough lol.

TheBeastInMsRooneysRoom · 19/02/2020 17:40

I do believe in the supernatural, but when I experienced something similar (I would wake up seeing physical shapes in the air above me that remained after I 'felt' awake and slowly fade as I stared them down. It was accompanied with a feeling of absolute horror and fear) it was because I was overly tired. It's a type of sleep paralysis and the brain sort of lets the dream images sit 'overlapping' the things you can see. It was incredibly unnerving, but as my son started sleeping more, I started sleeping more, and it stopped. Now, if I'm jet-lagged or woken up by sick kids it can still happen, but it doesn't phase me because I know what it is and I don't get the bad feeling with it, which was because I was terrified!

Have you been lacking sleep or having worse quality sleep than usual?

Pinkbonbon · 19/02/2020 17:46

It wasnt sleep paralysis. I know that. I believe sleep paralysis is possible but like I say, that wasnt it lol. I had literally just got into bed. And turned the lamp off. Still sitting up. And I've always been a good sleeper.

But I think a lot of sightings of these things can e put down to sleep issues sure. But that isn't applicable to my experience no.

Pinkbonbon · 19/02/2020 17:48

Also it was there for twenty min lol. During which I lay down and turned around plenty as I didn't want it to know I could see it.

100% get why you would suggest sleep paralysis though as I would too. But no...doesn't fit.

TheBeastInMsRooneysRoom · 19/02/2020 17:50

No PinkBonbon I don't think you are describing sleep paralysis! That was to OP.

I've had similar experiences to your description that I'm not going to write down, but I totally believe you. Just hoping that OP might not have.
