With the latest prayer thread coming to an end, we thought we would create a new thread for prayer and general chat too - we had chat threads running for years alongside prayer threads, and we thought it would be great to combine them. I try and collate some of the prayer requests from the last thread in the next few days. In the meantime, dive in! Lurkers/newbies - you are welcome to post. Feel free to start any chat subject about Christianity, church, worship etc, and do share any prayer needs.
Would love to hear from those who were on previous threads and haven't been around for a while, too. Come and let us know how you are.

DD is asthmatic, so although he qualifies, maybe not.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/03/2020 10:34

really struggling with lack of sleep. and meltdown after meltdown after meltdown.

pressure of school work is building. I am feeling unwell, and struggling to battle with getting school work done. undone tasks are building up and building up. we are concentrating on surviving and getting through with everyones mental health intact.

Madhairday · 24/03/2020 11:04

BES that sounds stressful. Praying for you now. xx

How is everyone getting on? @KayakingOnDown how are you feeling now?

I have some chest pain and sore throat myself and worked myself up into a bit of a panic. Got the text yesterday for the most vulnerable and it just hit me really starkly that this thing could be the end for me if I got it. But trying to think positively. It's hard. I'm isolating away even from my family, I can talk to them across several metres, not in the same room. I miss hugs :( This is going to be hard... a day at a time.

I'm going to try and get more writing done in this time, so that's a positive for me.

much love to all - please keep chatting and we can support one another through this hideous time.

@Dutchoma I am praying for you lovely. Flowers

I'm feeling a bit worse today actually. The chest pain is sharper and breathing is still laboured. Now my DD (7) is coughing, with a slight temperature and a sore throat.

madhairday I am sorry you are feeling poorly. There is a thread on MN with a lot of us on it suffering 'burning lungs' - check it out as I actually find it reassuring.

We will get through this - Psalm 91.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/03/2020 12:48

Kayaking how long have you had it. If you’re feeling worse, i’d ring 111 and get checked out.

GoofyGoob · 24/03/2020 13:16

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well @Madhairday and that things are getting worse @KayakingOnDown
Praying for healing and a quick recovery for both of you.
@Blackeyedsusan I'm sorry to hear that. Will be praying for you as well. Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you. It's a shame that we can't offer practical help to each other as well.

Round these parts, we're all doing okay so far. One week left of self isolation and we're pretty sure none of us have had Covid 19, I think the kids and my husband have both just had a cold. So far I've picked up nothing. Our nursery have just told us they'll be shutting to everyone, including key workers (I'm a teacher - was due to return to work from mat leave tomorrow, and my husband is a police officer). Fortunately both our works have been flexible so far with childcare. The days I'm on the rota to be in school my husband will be able to work a late shift.

Have been praying Psalm 91 daily and finding it a real encouragement and blessing.

KayakingOnDown · 24/03/2020 13:25

rafals and goofygoob thanks.

I've spoken to two different GPs in my health centre. Thursday and again today. Both think I have it. Both say there is no treatment and just to rest and call back if I can't cope at home.

Madhairday · 24/03/2020 13:51

I'm so sorry kayaking you're feeling worse. I pray you are recovered soon. Flowers thanks for the thread - I really don't think I'm showing symptoms, I usually get chest pain most days anyway and sore throat could be anything - it's just the thought of it all, being so vulnerable to it :(

I'm finding Psalm 91 so helpful too.

Good morning all. Just popping in to say hello.

Kayaking and MHD prayers for your health and also for patience, peace and even joy for you as you rest and recover. May you know the arms of the Almighty embracing and supporting you.

DutchOma continuing to pray for you, your db, and sil.

Psalm 61 is one of my favourites at the moment - do enjoy it with me!

KayakingOnDown · 25/03/2020 15:14

Hello all.

There is a 40 year old church pastor badly ill with Covid who was taken into hospital in Belfast. He has been on Radio Ulster today. He is still in hospital on oxygen, having been admitted struggling to breathe. He is hopefully recovering now but wanted to get on air to warn the public about how serious this is. Three interesting points -

  • he never had a cough OR a fever. He simply experienced increasing chest tightening until he could barely breathe
  • he was tested and it came back negative.
Only when he was tested again did it show positive

-he is a fit and healthy 40-year old, and has no underlying health conditions

A clip of him saying 'I thought I was going to die, but I'm a Christian, I love Jesus and I know I was going to heaven' has been playing on BBC news all day.

Dutchoma · 25/03/2020 17:02

That is very interesting Kayaking, thank you for sharing. Does he have any idea how he contracted the disease?
I hope you are doing well.

KayakingOnDown · 25/03/2020 17:37

He didn't say, but I know of dozens people here in NI who have it, anecdotally, especially around the Belfast area.

I've now read if it's deep in the lungs the test can be negative. Even when you have it.

Madhairday · 25/03/2020 18:02

How are you coping dear Oma?❤️

OP posts:
Dutchoma · 25/03/2020 20:21

I am coping better today than I did yesterday. The nice weather is helping. So are friends from (new) church who have been absolutely marvellous. I spoke to ds and dgranddaughter over the phone.
I’ve gone back to following the daily readings from Creighton University, a Jesuit establishment in Omaha. I’m not sure how I came across them, I followed them for a while and then gave up. They have been good over the past few days.
I also took possession of a book by John O’Donohue. (I posted a poem by him a few days ago). It is completely new, hardback and beautifully printed. It is called Benedictus, A book of Blessings.

PorpentinaScamander · 25/03/2020 20:29

Oh this dropped off my "threads I'm on" so just place marking really.

Had a nice online chat with my Vicar today. She's only been in post for a few months but is wonderful. We've set up a WhatsApp group for our discussion group as we cant meet at the moment. We actually have a Facebook group but some of us, including me, aren't on Facebook.

Im actually feeling more positive than usual. Clearly lockdown suits me!

Dutchoma · 26/03/2020 13:55

ZenNudist how are things with your teacher that had the heart attack?

applesandpears33 · 26/03/2020 17:30

Lurking and praying for all, especially MHD. We've been having church homegroups and services (without music) online. I'm really missing singing hymns and praise items though. I might just have to start singing them in the house which will torture the kids. Overall, we are coping better than I'd have expected. I thought the DC would have been climbing the walls without getting out to see their friends but they've been OK. It helps that they are old enough to understand and don't argue about isolation because all their friends are doing it too. The weather has been rubbish today so I'm hoping it'll be better tomorrow so they can get out for a walk or a cycle. If the weather is good at the weekend I'm hoping to get out in the garden. Fresh air and tending to plants always makes me feel better.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/03/2020 22:23

we are meeting on Zoom twice daily. it is keeping me sane, ok, no less sane than previously.... Grin

Madhairday · 27/03/2020 23:12

I'm so glad you are coping ok Oma and that people in your church are being kind. Praying for you and for BES daily, and praying for everyone on this thread as I read Flowers

Applesandpears it's so great to see you. I'm missing worshipping in community too, my church is doing a livestream on FB live on Sunday where video clips from our worship team are somehow piped in (don't ask me, dh has spent the week getting his head round new tech) so everyone watching can hopefully have a good singalojg. There are also loads of great worship videos on YouTube, they really keep me going when I'm housebound, never more so than now!

How's everyone getting on?

OP posts:
ZenNudist · 28/03/2020 10:51

Hello all. Ive had a busy week being breadwinner, cook, cleaner and teacher. Kayaking I really hope you are not still suffering. I was saddened to see you felt worse this week. Just remembered to say a quick prayer for you. BES prayed for you also. I hope now the weekend is here you can find time to connect with God and hopefully ease your burden.

Thank you everyone for your prayers about the teacher who had a heart attack. Good news! She is out of the coma and recovering. What a relief.

Dutchoma could you let me have the link to the daily readings from Creighton University please? Tried to find them. Will look again.

Today I am praying Psalm 113 as I came across it on a morning prayer podcast. I like the start:
1 Praise theLord, you his servants;
praise the name of theLord.
2Let the name of theLordbe praised
both now and forevermore.
3From the rising of the sun
To the place where it sets,
the name of theLordis to be praised.

Its very simple so just leaving it here. Feel free to point me in the direction of prayers and psalms you all like. I have prayed psalm 91 a small amount but off to look it up again right now. Thanks for the reminder.

KayakingOnDown · 28/03/2020 12:20

Thank you zennudist for your prayers. I am feeling a bit better and the chest tightness has eased. Praise God. I'm still exhausted but that's to be expected.

Our pastor read Isaiah 40 last week (I wasn't there at the time but he texted me afterwards). I recommend it.

I'll look up Psalm 113, thanks. The psalms are amazing for times like these.

Dutchoma · 28/03/2020 16:58

I hope this works. Otherwise just google Creighton University and it should roll out.

Madhairday · 28/03/2020 23:08

Please would you pray for my friend's son. He's in a coma with confirmed covid. In his 40s 😢

Thank you.

Kayak I'm glad you're doing ok. All these Bible passages are so helpful aren't they.

Love to all here.
