Mormon's AND JW's knocked on my door today

Mormons this morning and JW this eve.

Seriously, I don't need this. I don't need to explain politely every time that I am NOT interested.

It's not acceptable for me to be rude but I am tired of this, tired of them knocking on my door at least once a month.

How do I get them to stop? I've tried to look on their websites for contact details and can't find anything.

Pissed off today.

JWs have a do not call list you can ask to go on

Mormons no idea

Easterbunnynearlyhere · 19/04/2019 19:14

I actually had friends who were JW. Whenever any knocked I told them I knew The Watson Family. Never had anyone knock again!

Justajot · 19/04/2019 19:16

You can ask to be put on their "do not call" list. It seems to have worked for us.

notangelinajolie · 19/04/2019 19:19

The JW's were out and about knocking on doors on my road too. It'll be because they need to re-educate about how Easter is a pagan custom.

UtterlyDesperate · 19/04/2019 19:20

Invite them in and have in-depth theological conversations with them - at least, this seems to have worked for DF: they avoid my parents' house now, in an amusingly obvious way.

DM tried evangelising them first, but this was not successful.

I suspect trying to argue religion with a very deaf and slightly vague old man, who - crucially - keeps begging them to stay longer and follows them in to the road as they made their escape, was probably what led to their black-listing: it seriously interferes with their conversion statistics when one old bugger has kept them trapped for an hour Grin

I just have a sign in the window that says "Here lives a practising Anglican not looking to convert and who does not buy or sign up for anything at the door.". That also works Grin

You could try telling them that most people who believe an invisible person is watching them, is (or needs to be) on antipsychotics?

Oh, but that night be rude. Unlike the folk who knock on your door, uninvited

ChoccyBiccyTastic · 19/04/2019 19:29

Telling them you're already religious usually works quite well (only had them twice in 5 years after explaining I'm a devout Catholic). If they persist, I've heard offering to pray for them pisses them off Grin

TixieLix · 19/04/2019 19:35

I have a sign on my door that reads:

NO JUNK MAIL
NO CANVASSERS
I do not BUY or SELL at the door
I will not sign ANY CONTRACTS
I do not want to change my ENERGY SUPPLIER
I do not want to discuss RELIGION

Never had a problem with doorstep religion but I know they operate in my area.

I think the blood donor sticker helps keep the JW's away too Grin.

tierraJ · 19/04/2019 21:25

I said I enjoy bad things in life which shocked them & they have never bothered me again!

SleepingSloth · 19/04/2019 21:31

I know you are not interested but I don't think it's really that much of a pain to just say, 'no thanks' at the door every now and again.

ticketsonsalenow · 19/04/2019 21:33

I found that opening the front door whilst holding a black cat is enough to scare the JWs away Grin

bloatedbird · 19/04/2019 22:30

You are right @SleepingSloth but what with energy suppliers, Charity knockers, sales people, religious missionaries, window cleaners .. the list is endless. I get a bit tired of no thanks.

I have a sticker on the door. Mostly for me it was people selling stuff and charity workers. It's worked a treat

churchthecat · 19/04/2019 22:43

I'm dying for Mormons to knock on me. I know all the words to the musical. I have a full performance ready for them.

AnnieOH1 · 19/04/2019 22:47

Signs won't specifically stop either group unfortunately. If you let me know what area you live I can give you the contact details of who you need to contact to ask for no LDS missionary visits although usually if you had told them specifically "please don't come back" they should have noted this.

You surprise me the JWs have gone out tonight as they should have been at their memorial - where they pass the bread and wine around. It only happens once a year so their presence isn't negotiable.

Tolleshunt · 19/04/2019 22:54

I usually say I'm either Catholic or Jewish. They then seem to think I will be 'serious' about my religion, and not up for conversion. Telling them I'm CofE invites a zealous conversion attempt (clearly, they think all CofE-Ers are wishy-washy half-hearted types).

The time I told them I was a Spiritualist was interesting.

Tempted to tell them I'm a Satanist next time, but slightly concerned it might redouble their zeal.

SleepingSloth · 19/04/2019 23:15

Yet you only mentioned the religious missionaries in your OP. Personally I find they just smile and go away with a 'no thanks'. It's the sales people who keep going on, I had one a couple of weeks ago who put his foot in the door when I tried to shut it. Give me JW any day over that.

Maybe a sign on your door as others have suggested is what you need.

junebirthdaygirl · 19/04/2019 23:34

Dh got into a massive religious discussion with JWs at our door. They never came back.

Comefromaway · 19/04/2019 23:39

Churchthecat - Ds is desperate for them to knock. He did once start singing Hello in the street to 2 Mormons. He wants a book to use as a prop.

Aimily · 19/04/2019 23:45

I have one of those signs next to my door bell, works most of the time.
You can pick them up quite cheap on amazon:

FedUpOfBrexit · 20/04/2019 06:58

I always wonder how JWs make a living.
There is a group of JWs who every day have a stand in our town centre with leaflets and a sign etc and they are there all day every day. Other JWs go out and knock on doors so is this their full time job and how do they earn money?
Do rich JW fund others? I don't know how it works
I am asking a genuine question not trying to bash their religion or lifestyle just curious how they earn a living

bloatedbird · 20/04/2019 07:23

Yes ok @SleepingSloth apologies I didn't mention every single person or group that knock on my door 🙄

I personally find preaching religion offensive (to me) I don't go around knocking on doors preaching atheism.

I'm going to say I'm Jewish next time.

OP posts:
bloatedbird · 20/04/2019 07:27

@FedUpOfBrexit me too.

The JW are literally on every street corner, every day near the town I live in.

I think what really grates me is "they" (assume it's the elders) send out these vulnerable looking people to knock on random strangers doors?!?

Is politely saying you’re not interested once a month really such a big deal?
