My Dad has dark hair and he was always sent outside with a lump of coal to first-foot when I was a kid Smile

I’m having a lazy pottering day today. Need to sort laundry then perhaps a blustery beach walk, with some soup in the slow cooker for my return

VioletCharlotte · 29/12/2018 09:39

Pottering day here too. DS is working so I'll give him a lift in soon. May pop into town for a coffee and to spend a voucher I got for Christmas. Not sure if I can face the crowds though. It's my friends birthday so will drop a card into her.

So pleased your son enjoyed his first day Speakout.

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/12/2018 09:42

Sky is grey but it is strangely warm and the air pretty still. Just has a weird vibe about it. But making the most of the mildness and throwing the windows open to air out the house - it has got too stuffy in the last few days.

TOday I am decluttering/sorting out from the remaining chaos from the wardrobe collapse prior to christmas. I would like to make a massive dent in the issue before the end of the year.
Looking forwards to January and the new moon. I have thoughts on the matter. Oh and I got a diary (a small one) to help me focus and put in half hour each day to some magical studies. Mostly it will record what I have done, moon phases etc and the full details will remain in my bos/journal. but it excites me and fills me with hope and promise of changes to come. (change is one of my words for the year)

YashmisCrone · 29/12/2018 11:14

Glad your son got on well speakout, long may it continue.

Violet I love that picture and hearing of your adventures. Sounds magical Smile

Dhal was great for those who liked the look of it- definitely need the curried veg with it or some extra spice in the actual dhal IMO. Liked the sound of what everyone else was having too- ideas for the week!

I’m feeling quite a slump in mood today. I have given myself some decent time off work as I was getting burnt out with it (it was speakout’s golden goose analogy that made me realise- thank you) but then stopping can feel odd too can’t it. I might continue to stock my freezer with healthy food and try to get back into my clearing mode to feel a bit more grounded.

Hope everyone has a good day

"The Silver Bough" in four volumes is by far the best resource for Scottish folklore and belief. It was recommended to me when I worked at the National Museums and many times since. It is in print from Stuart Titles www.stuarttitles.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=92 at £18 per hardback volume but they can be found much cheaper in paperback and hardback secondhand if you are willing to haunt charity shops, Amazon, and ABE Books. Volume 1 is the important one, covering folklore and folk belief throughout Scotland. Volumes 2 and 3 cover the major festivals throughout the year in detail, and Volume 4 covers the local festivals.

Nigel Pennick has done several books on East Anglican beliefs and Troy Books publish a fair few books on West Country lore and beliefs.

Still feeling a bit gloomy today and then the post arrived with most delightful gift from a friend. Perfect timing and perfect content. I feel lifted.

speakout · 29/12/2018 14:31

I am feeling a little gloomy too tody- don't want to spread my energy though.

Having a quiet day tidying the house having lots of breaks and tea.

Right now it's a jasmine green tea- part of set of teas and cup with a built in infuser I got for christmas.

I didn't sleep too well last night and feeling a bit wooly headed.

Really not feeling like guests tomorrow , family we don't see them often, but conversation is very "one upmanship". I've had a promotion, we had an amazing trip to Madrid, one has been elected to sit on a comittee, someone met an MP, so and so has appeared in the newspaper, I have a new car.

All very waring. And I have no energy to give right now.

Roll on January!

It's very hard to be around people like that speakout when you can't be blunt with them about it. In that respect I don't miss my extended family at this time of year!
I have just had a cup of Love tea by Pukka.
One of my friends (recently made but quickly very dear to me) has gifted me a mug that was her grandmothers. I had admired it in the summer and she said she would rather I used it with love, than it sat gathering dust in her cupboard. So she gifted it to me for Yule.
I had dropped the self-care a little too much over the festivites. I am remembering now to up it a great deal to nourish my soul.

queenrollo

Your cup sounds so beautiful. Tea can be so nurturing for the spirit.

YashmisCrone your post is not derailing at all, and completely in the spirit of the thread. Some of the ideas you have already sound amazing.
Sorry I don't have the energy to help right now.
Hopefully someone else who has a little more vigour will be along to help soon. X

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling a little low today. Sending you all love and healing energy.

Speakout your relatives sound draining. For those of us who we are not driven by materialism or status, these kind of people can be very difficult to be around. My DB parents in law are similar.

Queenrollo good to hear you're feeling happier, what a lovely friend you have.

Yashmis that sounds like a very difficult situation. I've no witchy advice to offer (I'm not experienced enough), but I understand your fears about not being heard. II work for the NHS, in a non- clinical role, and often find the clinicians to be rather blinkered. They're brilliant at what they do, but don't always look at the bigger picture. It's important to stay calm though and not get stressed with them, so do make sure you're looking after yourself as well as you can.

Lovely pictures ❤️

Elphame · 29/12/2018 17:33

YashmisCrone I do the opposite of what I do if I want to be invisible! Can you pump energy into your aura - make it bright and shiny and noticeable?

This is a lovely book on getting your own way - the techniques in here really do work if you are prepared to put the work into mastering them. I never have to wait to be served at a bar any more and can get checkouts opened beside me ;-)

Peace reigns here at the moment. For the first time in what feels like weeks I have the house completely to myself. Not even the dog! I've lit the fire and poured a glass of wine to celebrate. It won't last long but I'm determined to enjoy it whilst I can.

speakout · 29/12/2018 17:33

YashmisCrone
Than you for those uplifting images.

Just been out to get myself a chinese takeaway!

The rest of my family are having something else, but treated myself.

I had stir fry tofu with read and green peppers in a black bean sauce. Rice with pineapple and a side order of mushrooms with onion.

Not sure if it very healthy, but hit the spot.

Loved going for a takeaway just for me!!

YashmisCrone · 29/12/2018 18:29

Oh wow! Thank you for your support/ideas.

Violet when you say They're brilliant at what they do, but don't always look at the bigger picture you sum up the situation(s) perfectly. That’s really helped me frame my intention- thank you. I’m definitely going to make a holistic approach/vision a central theme in any altars/workings I create.

Elphame yes! That’s just what I need! Thank you. Book already downloaded and I’m excited to get started! Watch my aura amplify- they won’t be able to miss me! Grin

speakout that sounds delicious- I love tofu dishes from the Chinese takeaway and just the treat you deserve- an excellent message of self care to yourself. This is my experimentation with new recipes for today (mostly because it fits the ingredients I have in the house) it’s smelling good simmering on the stove- I’m hoping the taste will match up!

As you can see my self care is currently very food based!

VioletCharlotte · 29/12/2018 18:40

Yashmis pleased that made sense! Elphames book sounds great, I'm going to download it too. I could do with being able to expand my aura myself sometimes!

Loving all the healthy food talk! (And I consider your Chinese takeaway to be healthy Speakout) I'm cooking a huge vegi chilli this evening.

Any Witches Here Part 5.
YashmisCrone · 29/12/2018 18:48

Perfect sense Violet, just the frame I needed. That chilli looks delicious 😋

Started reading already- loving the way it’s written and feeling positive about the magic I can create Smile

Veterinari · 29/12/2018 18:58

Ooh! All the food talk sounds delicious

Speakout i’m glad that you’re nurturing yourself. Hope that you feel better soon. Your relatives sound exhausting and draining.

Yashmish no specific advice except to focus on cultivating your relationships with carers and ensuring that they're aware that you are ‘present’ Even when you’re not iyswim? Just that awareness can enhance their attention and focus on your relatives

Paws thank you for the book recommendations - i’ll Definitely look them up!

I’m Feeling much better today - it was a glorious blue sky day here and I took my dogs for a beautiful trudge along the beach, we had chips on a harbour wall, met a friend and then trudged back along the beach to drive home. Gorgeous windswept day. Now goats cheese pie for supper whilst my beasties snooze

Such sad news about people from my local pub being involved in the minibus crash today.

OP posts:
WillowWitch · 29/12/2018 20:12

All this food sounds delicious. I had Chinese takeaway too tonight, must be a thing, the shop was so busy.

I've just gone to buy the book Elphames linked but can't seem to download kindle reader for PC. I'll take that as meaning I am not meant to read it tonight :D

YashmisCrone · 29/12/2018 20:21

Oh speakout, I’ve just read that terrible news. Tragic. What a horrendous shock for you to hear. Sending love to all affected

Veterinari · 29/12/2018 20:25

Oh Speakout sending you warm thoughts
