Do you believe in ghosts/the paranormal? If so, why?

I'm very interested to see if anyone has had any paranormal experiences. I have never seen a "ghost" but i do believe there is something out there.

At the start of the year my Mum and I went to see psychics, if that's what you call them... We sat around a table with two others, glass in the middle of the table and letters all around the table. Sounds like a Ouija board but a professional one, if that makes sense.

My mums Nan came through, the things she was saying would have never been able to be found out through Facebook, the internet etc. On the way home we were trying to think of any rational explanation to the answers we got, but couldn't come to any conclusion!

Family members of mine have seen paranormal spirits but i never have, and not sure i want to!

Has anyone ever had any paranormal experiences?

No I don't believe in ghosts or spirits. A quick google search will provide a far more plausible explanation for pretty much every single ghostly or spirit occurrence that anyone has ever experienced.

Regarding your psychic experience, do you have a tape recording? Were you allowed to make recordings?

Often people who have experiences like yours and then review the session afterwards realise the reality of what was said is very different from what they remember.

Also were you allowed to pose questions or did the spirits just communicate?

I often wonder why psychics never ask really obvious questions like 'whats it like to be dead?' 'Where are you?' etc...

i used to live in a house that was haunted me and my partner had knives and anything you could think of thrown at us across the room, my dogs were locked in the bathroom but the lock was on the inside, when i would walk up the stairs i would start to cry for no reason, we had a small box room which no one would go in it just felt wrong. The only "safe" room was the main bedroom. Our neighbours would ask what the banging about was all day but we was both out at work.

abbieo · 22/08/2018 09:54

stillawakeat4amagain - oh god that sounds terrifying! Bet you're happy not to be in that house anymore

Thinkingofausername1 · 23/08/2018 11:56

@stillawakeat4amagain sounds like my parents first house. Various things happened. They just put it down to old electrics, next door etc until the next lot of people who bought it had to get a priest in.....

abbieo · 23/08/2018 13:36

PatriarchyPersonified - i was allowed to record it but decided to write everything down instead. We can ask questions like that but they said to not ask something we don't want the answer to. So we didn't.

My mum and I asked various questions that NO ONE would ever ever be able to know or find out through the internet or stalking. My mum asked what her nans doctor was called.. and it was spelt out. She also asked her nan what she used to call her as a child, and she spelt it out.. she used to call her "Gert Nunnick" how on earth would they ever know that? i didnt even know that! haha

She also spelt out what my sons full name is, how much he weighed at birth, what date, where and when i was getting married, that my little brother was on cocaine (found out 3 weeks ago that it was correct) We were trying to think of any logical explanation as to how they would know, but there is literally nothing. We were very sceptical before we went in, but now we 100% believe. To believe it you actually have to experience it, it's amazing

I don't know. They humans only use ten percent of their brain capacity. Perhaps this is something we just cannot fully comprehend

Aprilshowersinaugust · 23/08/2018 13:42

I have had many experiences of seeing /hearing a ghost over the past years, from having my hair pulled regularly as I walked up /down stairs at home to seeing a little boy running along the landing. Seen by others at different times. Heard him giggling and playing with toys while I was on bed - stood beside my bed one night too.

abbieo · 23/08/2018 13:44

Aprilshowersinaugust - If i saw a little boy stood beside my bed i would literally shit myself and then leave

I woke dh!! My heart was racing, haven't seen him for about 4 years. Last time he ran behind me and I thought it was my ds!! He went into the bathroom cupboard as if hiding! Have never seen his face only from the back 3 times.
My dd's bf saw him and he slept with the light on and actually cried with fear!!
He was 20 ffs!!

abbieo · 23/08/2018 13:48

Jesus christ! I love all thing paranormal but to see a spirit would be a completely different story! haha

PatriarchyPersonified · 23/08/2018 13:55

Wait a minute OP, did the psychic tell you these things with her voice, or were they spelt out by the ouija board?

Because ouija boards work in very simple and easy to understand way, and it's not supernatural...

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/2016/10/29/13301590/how-ouija-boards-work-debunked-ideomotor-effect

PatriarchyPersonified · 23/08/2018 13:58

And why don't you want to know what it's like to be dead? It's the absolute first thing I would ask if spirits were real.

Also more about ouija boards, they were actually invented as a children's game in the 1890s, only later were they sold as a 'spirit communication tool' by savvy psychics (fraudsters to you and I) because people couldn't get over how spooky they felt to use.

abbieo · 23/08/2018 14:51

It wasn't a Ouija Board. We all have our beliefs, ours are different Smile

OP posts:
PatriarchyPersonified · 23/08/2018 15:05

Ok but it worked by you all touching a pointer, or a glass or a token of some description, then asking the 'spirits' questions, then the answers were spelled out to you by the movement of the token or glass around the board?

This is called the ideomotor effect and it's well understood and studied. Not supernatural at all i'm afraid.

It's normal to feel angry or embarrassed that you were taken in like this, it happens to a lot of people. I'm not making fun of you, just trying to show that these kind of things always have rational explanations.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 23/08/2018 16:44

I had my cards read years ago, she told me many things regarding my dc. Including a medical issue I hadn't yet known about.
She even told me my straight A student dd would get B and C not A's!!
I sent my then dh on his own and she told him the same stuff as me regarding our relationship and that of his dc, one having ds.
Never went back - too scared!!

abbieo · 24/08/2018 09:30

PatriarchyPersonified - There's no rational explanation for them telling me something would happen, and does. There's no way anyone in the room would know something was going to happen before it does.
Haha!! i'm not angry or embarrassed at all Smile it's my beliefs and i will stick to that :) It's not a scientific fact that the supernatural doesn't exist. I feel sorry for you to be honest, having such a closed mind and not having any beliefs. I'd hate to be like that Sad

Aprilshowersinaugust - I love getting my cards done! I've been trying to do my own, quite hard to get the hang of! Everything that was said in the cards, did it all come true?

Can you see how these things work? You have gone from 'they couldn't possibly know that' to 'how can they tell me something is going to happen' as soon as an explanation as to how they actually could know that was presented.

I think you know there are a hundred methods of suggestion that can appear to 'predict' future events. If i laid them out to you in this thread you would then just switch to another justification instead.

I've never said the supernatural 'can't exist', just that so far there has never been any evidence presented that shows it.

I'm absolutely not closed minded, I'll happily review any evidence of the supernatural and if it proved the case, I'd be very willing to accept it.

it's my beliefs and i will stick to that

In the face of evidence and simple explanations for everything you have described?

There is only one closed minded person in this conversation...

abbieo · 24/08/2018 11:25

haha! :)

How would they know my brother was doing cocaine on a certain night when no one in the family knew? I asked him and he got scared because he had done cocaine on the night mentioned and did not tell anyone at all.

You've given your beliefs and i've given mine, nothing you say will change my mind. stop trying to force your beliefs onto me. I understand why you think the supernatural doesn't exist, i know it sounds crazy but those are my beliefs.. and they won't change :) even if you are trying to give "evidence and simple explanations"

OP posts:
PatriarchyPersonified · 24/08/2018 11:29

abbieo

nothing you say will change my mind

Weren't you just talking about being closed minded?

Maybe you should look up what 'closed minded' actually means...

Timeisslippingaway · 24/08/2018 11:31

Oh no I was going to go and do some housework now I'm going to sit and scare myself shitless because the 2 kids are sleeping and I've found this thread!

abbieo · 24/08/2018 11:41

PatriarchyPersonified Oh just leave, you're starting to piss me off now

OP posts:
abbieo · 24/08/2018 11:42

Timeisslippingaway - Has anything paranormal happened to you? I love hearing stories!

OP posts:
HonkyWonkWoman · 24/08/2018 12:00

The OP title is Do you believe in ghosts/the paranormal? If so, why?
So anyone Patriachy who doesn't believe can just leave it at that, unless you are an arse and want to answer every post with your negative argument.
The OP isn't asking, why do you NOT believe in ghosts, and why!

abbieo · 24/08/2018 12:02

HonkyWonkWoman Thank you x

When my mum was little her nan came to visit her the night she had died to say goodbye. She mentioned it to her parents the next morning before they had the chance to tell her. There was no other way she would have known, it was very sudden.

I haven't had any experiences myself though but I do believe in something more.
