Hi Borris I am going to week 2 with my daughter and grandson. We are up on Pink (not sure which number as daughter booked for us) and dgc will be in Gems as he is only 1. Where are you camping.

This will probably be our last New Wine as we live very close to Shepton and I don't think we will go to Peterborough. We have been going most years since 2007 although in the last couple of years I have only managed a day as two years ago dd got married on 30th July and last year dgc was born on 25th July.

I am really looking forward to this year as for the last few years I have been working on Team and this year I am free to go to all the seminars.

Hello I’m in orange 5 I think. It’s my first time . Going with my dd who will be in ground breakers and several more families and couple from our church who are regulars. Getting excited now!!

My dd was a team member in ground breakers in 2008 and she said that all the children had a fantastic time. Dd has been a team member in Pebbles and Gems as well but I have just done Gems.

You will have a great time and there is so much going on. One good tip we have had is to make sure that you get there early to register for the group if your dd wants to be with any friends.

Madhairday · 02/08/2018 15:56

Hi, yay! I'm going to week 2 also, just packing as we're going down on Saturday as DD is on Pebbles team again (it's her 3rd year now - she loves it).

We're on Green 1, very close to the centre of things.

We've been going for about 20 years - my DC have been all their lives and been through all the kids and youth groups (now in Thirst). They both say their favourite kids group was Groundbreakers!💖

I love it - there's nothing like it. So excited.

Madhairday · 02/08/2018 15:59

You'll love it, Borris. Take lots of suncream and insect repellent...

Sorry to hear Peterborough will be too far for you Larry. I think it's been a hard decision for them but since they stopped the North one lots of people haven't been able to come so locating it more centrally makes sense. I think Peterborough also has more room and better facilities so good for expansion too.

It will seem very strange though. I've got very attached to Shepton over the years.

Borris · 02/08/2018 17:25

Yay a few of us going. Got sun cream and mozzie spray packed - and probably a million things I don’t need.

Thanks for the registering tip. There are 4 kids of the same age from our church - was planning on all walking down together to register so hopefully won’t be any problems.

I’m orange 5. No idea really what that means but on the map looks fairly close to facilities Smile

We are in Pink 2 so quite a long walk. I am actually staying off site as I only live 20 minutes away because I have to have an op the week after New Wine and I need to be able to sleep and shower (special body wash). We have a tent as our base and will be cooking near it and GS (aged 1) will be having his afternoon nap.

Showers are usually a bit hit and miss and can get very busy particularly in the morning so try and have showers mid afternoon if you can.

Borris · 02/08/2018 17:52

Lucky you larry (shower not op!)
I’m happy with an afternoon shower. Dd is hoping to get away with a week of wet wipes!! But I’m planning on hauling her into a shower at least once and preferably twice Grin

Ladies can I ask you how the kids groups work at New Wine as we are thinking of going next year. Do parents stay and supervise their kids as we have 3 of different ages so we couldn’t be in 3 places at once.
Also do you camp with people from your own church or are you dotted all over the place? Thanks Smile

autumnboys · 02/08/2018 20:05

Hi squirrelnut- the groups are drop off. Preschool children have groups all morning, school age children do the mornings & evenings.

When you book, you put your church name & they put you all together to camp.

I’ll be camping with my boys & our church on Blue 6. DH is joining us towards the end of the week. Can’t wait! Ds3 finished groundbreakers last year and is in his first year of Rock Solid. He’s registered with Our Place for the first time too, as we’ve had an autism diagnosis for him.

autumnboys · 02/08/2018 20:06

Ooohhh ! ALERT!

Loads of wasps/gnats this year apparently. Pack repellent/sting relief.

larry55 · 02/08/2018 20:27

Thanks for that information about the wasps. On the subject of what to bring it is useful to have hand cleansing gel as there can be sickness bugs around (people from all around the uk so mixture of different germs).

Borris · 02/08/2018 20:30

The mosquito spray is packed but will get hold of some antibacterial gel too. Thanks for the tip off Smile

I'd heard about the wasps and gnats too :( any good tips for keeping them off or good brands of repellent?

Hi squirrelnut - do come, you'll love it. Like autumn said the groups are all drop off, they're very secure as they have a very careful system of registration and pick up. If a child is upset or ill they know where to find the parent as you have to tell them every day where you'll be, then they can page the venue or text you or both. You can also stay with a child in the group if you or they wish.

Kids adore the groups - they're so good and so much fun. Even the quieter kids in our groups have loved them. And as autumn mentioned there is Our Place which supports children with additional needs, either within the mainstream groups or at their own venue for those who wouldn't cope well in those.

Maybe we should do an MN meet up!

autumnboys · 03/08/2018 08:53

I ordered some repellent bracelets & am hoping they will come today. We arrive tomorrow as DS1 is on the Gems team (a former Gem himself!)

MN meet up sounds good. Maybe between the main morning meeting & first seminars?

larry55 · 03/08/2018 08:55

A meet up sounds good. When and where do you suggest?

Madhairday · 03/08/2018 11:48

Great! We could either do one of the cafes but they can get v busy at that time. You're welcome to come to my caravan on Green 1 as it's still v near the centre...

Madhairday · 03/08/2018 11:48

Tell you what, DM me and we'll sort it - are you guys on FB, that could make it easier.

Madhairday · 03/08/2018 11:51

Ermmm autumn boys I might know you... Depends on the ages of your boys... Grin

autumnboys · 03/08/2018 12:09

Hahaha! 14,12 & 8!

autumnboys · 03/08/2018 12:13

And I’ve just worked out who you are. Grin

Madhairday · 03/08/2018 13:37

Grin yep...

larry55 · 03/08/2018 15:01

Hi autumn boys it would be great if your son has my grandson. Is this your sons first year as a Gems helper? If so tell him that he will have a great time with all the little ones although it can be very noisy depending on which group he is in.
