and lots of hands clawing at the window strange piece of work.

littleducks · 22/04/2007 08:50

The bit I find scary is the piccy aat the bottom where the doll is suddenly holding a gun and the boy is walking out of the painting.

earlgrey · 22/04/2007 08:52

Does the picture fill the whole screen?

littleducks · 22/04/2007 09:00

no, small at top followed by text then the photograph of 'haunting'

btw was more frightening last night

SparklyGothKat · 22/04/2007 09:11

if you actually look at the 'gun' its the bottle and the window frame, but under difference lightening it looks like a gun.

lissielou · 22/04/2007 09:12

its creepy, wouldnt want to look at it every day myself!

earlgrey · 22/04/2007 09:25

I must've wound myself up about it uncontrollably because when I did finally have a peek I wasn't scared at all. Don't understand how the boy walking out of the picture works though - are there two pictures?

littleducks · 22/04/2007 09:33

There is the picture, then a couple of of photographs further down showing close ups of sections etc. one of which is the boy walking out of the picture, but its not that bad in daylight

misdee · 22/04/2007 09:53

ah 'hands resist him'. i think i introduced mumsnetters to this weird pic one halloween lol.

Rhubarb · 22/04/2007 10:53

Just shown it to dd, she didn't think much of it either way, nor did ds.

Very clever marketing indeed.

loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 10:56

it states that they have caught the boy walking off the pictureon webcam...if thats the truth where is it??

My dad would like it, he goes in for surreal paintings like that.

It's obviously painted to be spooky. But as the artist is alive and well I think the stories about it are just that. It ain't no Dorian Gray.

loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 11:38

he must be a pretty messed up man though to create things like that

OP posts:
sandcastles · 22/04/2007 11:39

It's not a gun tho. It is some kind of lamp & the angle the pic is shot at blends it into the frame of the window to make it look like a gun.

he is not walking out of the pic, it is the angle of the picture taken. You can still see the windown frame behind him.

Rhubarb · 22/04/2007 11:40

It's not so bad! I've seen worse! You should see some of the paintings my dad has.

These arty people are all a bit strange anyway.

I wouldn't mind it in my house so there.

TheWoman · 22/04/2007 11:41

earlgrey - the marketing ploy was where the seller told the story of the pictures moving, then took the rather dodgy further pictures of the painting, supposedly demonstrating the supernatural nature of it all. Did you see in the link how much the picture sold for on ebay?

singingmum · 22/04/2007 11:43

The last two photo's look to just be done very cleverly on a computer to me.In the last one you can make out the boys arm still on painting, also the boy in last but one has a black outline which you sometimes get when cutting and pasting on comp.Did this painting get bought?
Hope whoever owns it now did not buy it just to have a haunted painting as will be sorely dissapointed methinks

Rosylily · 22/04/2007 12:22

It depends what you want a painting for. It is like a poem, some people like to look at something which makes them think. I do but the painting also has to be aesthetically(sp) pleasing to me too. I wouldn't have that painting about, it's ugly.
The whole haunting thing is beside the point to me. But the idea makes me even more uneasy about the painting.

loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 12:28

yes i agree, to me its a painting that screams "wrongness pain and evilness" maybe u might think im a nutcase (lol) tbh i even felt uneasy having the image on my pc, and when i read the literature with it it did say DO NOT use this image as a scren saver

OP posts:
electra · 22/04/2007 12:48

The painting is apparently part of a trilogy. The boy was meant to represent the painter as a child, I think. The artist's site is here and you can see his other work there too. I can't imagine he's a very happy soul

singingmum · 22/04/2007 12:58

I actually think that some of his art is quite beautiful although some obviously have strange subject etc. There is obv stories behind some

loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 12:59

lordy lordy, them pictures are really horrible

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 13:02

wonder if hes married...if i was his wife i would barricade my door every night

OP posts:
Nemo2007 · 22/04/2007 13:06

blimey does make you wonder what was going on in his head!!!! The painting is freaky but then all his paintings are freaky..lol

singingmum · 22/04/2007 13:07

Not all his paintings are spooky.I like the one with a woman diving into water.Bit of a cheeky view but well painted.
The ones on the origional link to his sight are unusual but there are many that are not
