Christian prayer thread for winter

Hello all! I just posted a long post on the old thread and realised it's full up, so just going to copy this here to sunshine - will try and do a roundup of other prayers too later. Everyone welcome here!

Just want to reiterate what Oma and Cocoa have said so well, sunshine. It's no wonder church feels like a hostile place and you freeze up. I feel so sad for you that that man did this to you. But Christ isn't the church , the church is supposed to be his body, reaching out hands of love and help and compassion, and sometimes they mess that up. Hugely. Sometimes evil crawls in. But that doesn't mean God's abandoned you. I love that Oma referred to the prodigal son, I was looking at Rembrandt's study of that parable the other day and so struck afresh by the father's absolute joy in his son being home, his grace in embracing him whatever he'd done. Sadly you've had a poor excuse for a father so it must be so difficult to frame God in the language of father for you Flowers but God is the father who loves you beyond your imaginings, who reaches out arms of compassion and forgiveness, who gathers you in and just loves you. Loves you so much, so, so much, without end. You can never do anything that will make God abandon you. Jesus said that he is with us always, even to the end of the age.

I know church is threatening, lovely, but there are a lot of people who would love to help, here on the internet and in real life. It's just a case of reaching out, but I know that must seem impossible right now. I've learned that God is a God of restoration, a God who longs to mend the broken places and devastations in people's lives. I've seen people set free from so much and believe with everything I am that God longs to set you free, too.

I'd love you to find some medical support. I'm so sorry your GP is so rubbish. More and more the case, sadly. I pray you can get in to see someone. Would you also consider some counselling? Like cocoa says, that doesn't mean they would take your DC away, just that they would want to support and help you. Flowers you sound a lovely mum and have done so well to get to this point. I'm glad you are reaching out here. Please take care and know God's love pouring over you by the Holy Spirit. Flowers

welcome itbh happy to pray for you :)

Intheblackhole · 05/04/2018 16:13

Thankyou. I think I have been led to the new church to increase my faith and embrace it rather than sort of keeping it under wraps for the rest of the week. I felt really flooded with light and warmth during the worship on Easter Sunday. I'm adept at recognising my own emotions like joy, fear etc and this felt different as if it was coming from outside of me. It was a ' moment ' as I've never experienced before. Is it ok to post a prayer..
Dear Lord I pray that you will grant me the strength to make the best of recent adversity and enforced changes, that I will learn from all of this in time, and that I can live in the joyous knowledge that God loves me as He does all of us and will allow me to find peace through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen

Intheblackhole · 05/04/2018 16:14

Ah crossed posts Edd thank you so much that would be lovely

Dutchoma · 05/04/2018 17:55

That is a beautiful prayer itbh and a wonderful experience. Thank you for sharing.
I hope you will soon be able to change your user name to ootbh.

Tuo · 05/04/2018 20:29

Welcome itbh and thank you for that lovely prayer. I'm feeling a wee bit needy... Currently on holiday with my DH, kids and parents, and I've come down with a horrible lurgy. Currently shivering under all the blankets in the place. I'm not worried about myself but My DC have A levels and GCSEs when we go back, and my parents are elderly (79/84) and have already had flu once this winter. Please can you pray that they will stay well? Thank you.

Intheblackhole · 05/04/2018 21:41

Hi Tuo Thankyou for the welcome. I'm sorry you are ill on holiday. I'll pray for you and your family to get better quickly. I hope it's ok as a newbie to post a short prayer.
Dear Lord please take care of Tuos parents and children while they are both away from home and unwell. By your grace let them recover quickly and be back to normal activities very soon, through the love of Jesus Christ our Lord , Amen

Tuo · 05/04/2018 22:02

Aww... Thank you itbh. Had a little sleep and feel a bit better now. Going to try to sleep it off. Thank you for thinking of me.

Lisette40 · 06/04/2018 08:14

Hope it goes Tuo. People often fall over with something as they relax on holiday.

A much loved aunt of mine has just died and my rather dysfunctional family didn't tell me; I heard from another relative who kindly phoned me but I think she was a bit surprised that I didn't know. Her funeral is this morning and I only found out yesterday. I'm miles away so won't make it to pay my respects. Would you say a quick prayer for her, please?

Tuo · 06/04/2018 08:57

Oh Lisette, how sad. I'm sorry for your loss. Prayers for your aunt and all who loved her today.

I've woken up feeling much better after sleeping for about 12 hours or more. Hooray!

Lisette40 · 06/04/2018 09:30

Thanks Tuo. Glad you are feeling better. I'm on holiday too and I've spotted a pretty church where I can nip in and say a prayer in peace.

Dutchoma · 06/04/2018 10:08

Prayers for your aunt Lisette and all your (dysfunctional) family. Sorry you won’t make the funeral, but...your aunt won’t be there anyway. Glad you have found a quiet church to pray.
And prayers of thanks for your recovery TUO. Please take it easy for the rest of the holiday, rest when you need to. You have been so busy and under so much pressure over the past few weeks with more to come, so take the chance while you can.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/04/2018 15:47

get well soon TUO

Lisette40 · 06/04/2018 23:26

Thanks everyone.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/04/2018 13:34

just adding a quick prayer for Justine, and all at MNHQ after the times piece this morning. It might make some people very very cross.

Orchidflower1 · 16/04/2018 16:43

Hi all to those of you who remember me- I haven’t posted for quite a while; I just wanted to say that things are a lot better at home both with my health and dh. I thank god for that. Neither are 100% but I continue to work each day on my physical and mental health and pray. I have still reading and been praying for all on the thread but just wasn’t ready to post anything again until now. I thank god for the support given here.

Dutchoma · 16/04/2018 17:04

How lovely to hear from you Orchidflower and with such good news too. May God continue to bless you and keep you in good health, which, I’m sure will benefit your relationships as well. Thank you for posting

Madhairday · 17/04/2018 19:20

Great to hear from you Orchid and glad things are better. Keep posting!

How are things, BES? How did Easter go for you?

Hope you enjoyed your time away, Oma.

Much love and prayers for all here.

Glad to hear that orchid.

EddSimcox · 22/04/2018 00:18

So. I've just written my first ever sermon. Please pray for me if you see this tomorrow - preaching is a scary new adventure for me. Thanks!

Dutchoma · 22/04/2018 10:09

I will pray that it is the Holy Spirit preaching and not you.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/04/2018 00:10

two days of bad meltdowns and some horrendous behaviour.

Madhairday · 25/04/2018 08:59

How did it go, Edd?

Sorry to hear about the meltdowns, BES Flowers

Prayers for all here.

Good morning - may I ask that you pray for my daughter who is heading into GCSEs? She is such a lovely caring kind young lady and has worked so hard and deserves success. She has her French oral on the 2nd or 3rd May and is very nervous.
Lord keep her calm and focused before and throughout the next 8 weeks, grant that she will answer every question to the best of her abilities and achieve the results she desires. Surround her with your loving care so she knows she is never alone. Amen.

Dutchoma · 25/04/2018 12:27

Welcome jugglingmummyof2. That is a lovely prayer for all children facing exams and there are quite a few on this thread alone, TUO among them.

JugglingMummyof2 · 25/04/2018 14:29

Thanks Dutchoma - this seems like a difficult year to have to do GCSEs with all the changes.
TUO - my mum is also elderly and I worry about her and my Dad who is so strong and patient and under appreciated by her too.
I will keep everyone and their families in my prayers.
Thank you for the welcome.
