Angels

There was a lady on Tv this morning talking about Angels but I can't remember her name? I know she's written books.

Has anyone had any experience of them? I'd love to feel that I had a guardian angel. She was saying that they aren't supposed to intervene but we need to ask for their help.

Hi Juniper!

I'm a Christian and here's a little of what I believe about angels. The name means messenger, but that messenger could be sent by God or by Satan. Angels were created by God so aren't meant to be worshipped. Hebrews 1 is brilliant at clearing up that kind of confusion.

There are guardian angels, but I can't remember the passage I'm thinking of offhand, but it's lovely and reassuring. They 're always spoken of in the masculine (like Gabriel, Michael etc.)

I think I've met an angel on a couple of occasions, but I really can't be sure. Both times were when I really needed either encouragement or protection and it came out of the blue.

I pray that angels watch over and protect my son at night and I do believe that God has appointed ds' own angel to watch over him throughout his life.

I don't however believe that angels are to be contacted in any way - they are sent as messengers or servants by God and answer only to Him and not us.

She said they could help you find parking spaces, can this be true?

muddaofsuburbia · 20/05/2004 13:49

I don't know about it being an angel specifically, but I do pray for parking spaces!!

Oh and angels in this country can only fly up to 70 mph, but the German ones have no speed limit

suzywong · 20/05/2004 13:50

Tee Hee!

fairyfly · 20/05/2004 13:50

I have Angel cards, they are lovely. I light candles and pick one, either for a certain problem or time scale. When my x left me my Guardian angel was called surrender. This month it is trust. I also believe my friend who passed away is my guardian angel.
Someone once told me to find out who your angel is called you pray before bedtime, then in the morning think of the first name that comes into your head. That will be the name of your angel. Mine is called Jennifer.

ghengis · 20/05/2004 14:56

I watched this on This Morning and felt there might be something in it. I felt my mind and heart open up to the idea. A couple of times in my life I have felt a physical presence helping me and/or things have happened that could have been a coincidence but I know they were not. You have to remember to say thank you when this happens or they won't help you again.

Might be a load of old drivel but something tells me it isn't!

neetsmassi · 20/05/2004 15:00

Didn't see the programme but was the woman called Diana Cooper - have read an Angels book written by her

ghengis · 21/05/2004 10:44

I think so. Since yesterday all sorts of strangely coincidences have happened to me and I have a feeling of a warm and loving presence with me. It's very comforting.

papillon · 21/05/2004 12:22

Ooooh genghis there is a thread where we have been talking about those sorts of happenings!! You may have seen it already, but it is here

Interesting muddaofsuburbia that angels in the bible are generally masculine - you so often see pictures of them looking very feminine - I suppose its all those feathers!

wellsie · 22/05/2004 20:21

I love this website, really helping PND.
Anyway, just thought I'd add my bit. I too saw the programme on Thursday about Angels. The lady said that if you see a white feather it is a sign that an Angel is near (I think thats what she said anyway), well I was thinking about this whilst feeding my DS and wondering if he has a Guardian Angel (I'm pretty sure that I have one called Derek - I know, not a very Angel name!), well with that I looked down and there was a white feather on his bottle - HOW SPOOKY IS THAT!!??

melsy · 22/05/2004 20:26

I think thats wonderful Wellsie, I was just sitting here thinking if ive ever seen a feather anywere recently. So lovely that it should be when you were thinking about your ds and his gaurdian.

So glad this is helping your PND.

juniper68 · 23/05/2004 17:33

Wow Wellsie, that's amazing

Like Melsy says it's great that mumsnet is helping you xx

Now, I'm a complete non-believer in this sort of thing, but dp's best friend (another down-to-earth type) swears blind that he saw an angel fly out of his house one night. He heard a noise in the bathroom, went to investigate, and saw only a huge wing disappearing out of the window.
When we tease him about it and say it was just a big pigeon he just shuts up and insists that he knows what he saw.
And I actually believe him.

luckymum · 23/05/2004 18:02

When my dd was 3 months ish I woke up and thought I saw/sensed someone standing over her cot. I got up and put on the light but there was nothing. It wasn't until 6 weeks later after she'd survived two heart attacks, major surgery & life threatening complications that I remembered it and thought that maybe she has a guardian angel..........I really hope so

Aawww lucky mum , what a lovely thought that someone special was wathcing over her, darling little thing.

Good coincidence essbee.

crystaltips · 23/05/2004 20:11

Oh yes - I truly believe in Angels.
My guardian Angel is called Simon and I often ask for their help.
What you have to remember is that they need to be asked for help - but not for purely selfish reasons .... put it this way you are unlikely to get the Lotto numbers
WHenever you ask ( and when you receive ) always remember to say thank you.

Simon helps me with huge issues - like the state of my marriage down to trivia - like the traffic light staying green for those extra few seconds when I am in a hurry!

It's amasing how much calmer and secure I feel knowing that some-one is wathcing over me.

ghengis · 24/05/2004 11:32

Crystaltips, how do you know his name? I keep trying to tune in to mine to see if his/her name comes to me, but to no avail so far.

crystaltips · 24/05/2004 13:46

Some say go to sleep and when you wake up the first name that comes into your head is your Angel's name.
I am usually far too disorientated to remember - too busy throwing things at the alarm clock!!

Sit down and think calm thoughts - and make your mind a total blank. ( Dianna Cooper says make your Aura golden as that encourages angel contact ) - I'm just lucky to have 5 mins without interruptions !!
Then invites your angel to contact you - and then the first name that comes into your mind is your angel name.!

HTH

jampot · 24/05/2004 14:09

Wow - I am definitely trying this in the morning! I have never seen an angel (that I know of) but do believe that we each have a Guardian Angel who intervenes at certain times in our lives. Each night I do thank God for giving me my kids and for keeping them safe.

ghengis · 24/05/2004 16:08

Thanks Crystaltips. Will try this tonight when I get a bit of peace and quiet (whatever that is).

juniper68 · 24/05/2004 17:31

Oooo the boys are watching tv so I'm going into the summerhouse to try to connect with my angel

I'll let you know if I get a name!

ghengis · 25/05/2004 10:50

Well I forgot to do this last night but when I was out with the dog this morning in a very calming place I came up with 'Raphael'. I'm not sure if this is because the logical side of my brain knows that there was an angel called Raphael but it seems right so I'll go with it. I cant help thinking of bloody ninja turtles!!!

melsy · 25/05/2004 10:56

Thats lovely gehngis, make me thnk of florence and old charms or Italy more. You really are gettingin touch with your inner self.

Thomcat · 25/05/2004 17:54

My DD's godmother is incredibly spiritual and does readings etc.

She is going to take Lottie on an angel workshop. The leader mediataes and lets an angel in and according to my friend the feeling when the angel enters the room is overwhelming, you feel really light and floaty, a bit out of it really. It's meant to be really amazing and she wants lottie to experience it so is taking her on the next opportunity.

Just wanted to share that with you.
