New beginnings: a Christian prayer thread for summer

Tuo · 13/07/2013 23:22

I have called this thread 'new beginnings', as it felt appropriate to lots of us at the moment, in a whole series of ways.

Since I started our last thread, back in April, we have welcomed Abigail Faith, daughter of HadALittleFaithBaby, and Hannah Faith, daughter of RoomForALittleOne. We thank God for their safe arrival and pray that He will watch over them and surround them with His love as they grow.

We pray for Kaykat and for CharlotteCollinsismovingon as they deal with the breakdown of their marriages. We pray not only for Kay, but also for her friend who has been providing her with excellent support and legal advice, for a clear way forward and a swift resolution. We pray for a clear and positive way forward also for Charlotte, and for her children to cope with this change in their lives with understanding and resilience.

We pray for PositiveAttitude as she settles back into life in the UK, and prepares for a period away from her DH and DD4. We pray, in particular, for her DD1, that she find a job in which she will feel supported and which will help her to feel happier and better able to cope with life. We also pray for happiness for PA's DD3, who has just got married, and for her DS in his new job. Finally we pray for the work of her DH in Cambodia, praying that the separation is bearable and that he continues to be able to make a real difference to people's lives over there.

We pray for BlueTinkerbell as she moves to a new home, looks for work, and continues to explore her vocation. May this move be a really positive new beginning for Blue and her family.

Likewise, we pray for niminypiminy who will begin ordination training in September.

And we pray for my church and diocese in the aftermath of some major structural changes. This is a new beginning that was imposed rather than chosen, but may it bring positive developments nonetheless.

We pray also for:

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for this work to be welcomed and valued, rather than greeted with incomprehension, far less hostility;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, for peaceful and restorative holidays, for order in her flat and with her paperwork, and for her DC; we pray especially that they both receive the support that they need from their school;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to receive a clear diagnosis and suitable treatment for her eye problem very soon;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, that her DS is able to access the support he needs and is valued and nurtured at school; for better support also for her DD; for better relationships at work; and for her nephew, who has suffered a burst appendix;

... DutchOma and Bob, for health for Bob and for good support (moral and practical) for Oma as she cares for him day by day; and for the ability to rest and breathe easily in this heat;

...JakeBullet as she deals with her uncle's ill-health and decision to move back to his native Switzerland. May he be well cared-for and peaceful there, and may Jake not miss him too much;

... MadHairDay, for health as she lives with chronic illness, and for strength as she mourns the death of a friend; we remember also MHD's friend and all who knew and loved her at this time;

We also pray for friends who haven't been around for a while... for Badvoc, for Gingercurl and her thesis, for Jan and her DD, for MaryBS, and for all those who lurk, for occasional visitors, and for those known to us who are in need of prayer, whether mentioned here or not.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Thinking of tunnocks and all the family x

Dutchoma · 21/10/2013 22:24

The appointment went well. Praise the Lord.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/10/2013 08:10

I feel very sick and I have to drive the children to school. dd is inconveniently really well. i could ligitimately keep ds off is he is not too good, on the cusp of being too ill...

peasae pray I can maanage the school run. and to get them back later.

madhairday · 22/10/2013 11:08

Praying you've managed the school run BES and thanking God for good appts for DO and for TUO.

Praying for tunnocks and for Grace.

Keeping praying through....

My infection has eased but still there, so it's another course of abs or think about IVs, but don't want to go into hospital....but then again don't want to be there at christmas for the third time in a row either.....prayers for wisdom would be appreciated! I am tired.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/10/2013 12:48

they are at school. I have been in bed for 3 hours, my tummy has been making extraordinary gurgling noises.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 22/10/2013 14:31

The little lamb has a lung infection it seems. Keep praying for her.

Parents evening tonight. I'm hoping that now DS is in reception that parents evening will feel more positive. His nursery teacher didn't understand him and I'm almost certain she didn't like him and found him difficult. I'm still awaiting an official diagnosis btw but we're getting there.

Exhausted here. My fault for too many late nights. Hope I'm coherent at the parents evening. The appointments had to be late so their Dad could come too.

GingerCurl · 22/10/2013 19:29

Praying as I read through.

We had parents' evening tonight as well but ended up leaving without speaking to the teacher. Our slot was at 4:00. We arrived at 3:50. We Left at 4:25 after having found out that there were two sets of parents before us still weighting their turn. And that was early in the evening. Goodness knows how long those arriving later would have had to wait. She was talking to one mother for more than 20 minutes! I understand that people appreciate that the teacher is spending more than the allocated five minutes talking to them about their children, but she should then plan and allocate slots accordingly. Alternatively, if parents want to discuss something in particular, they should book a separate meeting. We left feeling rather frustrated.

RoomForALittleOne · 22/10/2013 20:28

Praying for health for all those who need it on here.

I'd appreciate prayers that I'll be calm and brave on Thursday. I went to the dentist today and found out that all the sickness in DD3's pregnancy has ruined my teeth. I have to go back on Thursday for two fillings (my first ever!). I'm slowly getting my head around it. I don't even like having x-rays or having my teeth cleaned by the dentist. Oh, and I have a fear of local anaesthetic. This could be challenging...

BlackeyedSusan · 22/10/2013 21:15

I am back on the computer, but it has been touch and go. it is playing up nd shutting down at random intervals. it haas been slow and uncooperative for days. it is a bit stressful as it is my link to the world.

let's hope for some good telly!

Kaykat · 22/10/2013 21:20

Praying for little Grace and her mum.
For Faith, hope you are beginning to feel better now.
For Room at the dentist. Will you need to go back for more or is it just the two fillings? Can't believe you have managed to stay filling free for so long.
That Oma can go to her choir complete with new lens.
That MHD gets better very soon without the need for hospital and has a well earned Christmas at home.
For those amongst us who are grieving.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 22/10/2013 23:50

Oh my ginger! Shock The parents evening was almost on time here and went far better than expected. After arranging and paying a babysitter, that situation would have driven me round the bend.

My awful morning sickness etc ruined my teeth. I've had at least 3 filings since kids. God has been good and brought me a kind dentist and I'm getting less fearful now. I'll pray for you room x

Bes is there a geek you can ask to take a look at your pc? I use my phone to access mumsnet etc could you upgrade your phone?

BlackeyedSusan · 23/10/2013 00:12

geek is due to visit sometime in the holidays. we arre looking at the possibility of getting a computer to support dd's homework. there may also be the possibility of some cannabalisation of computers... he reckons it may have been a hardware problem as neither operating system worked, though strangely windows was able to run in safe mode.

given that ds was using the computer at the time, it is possbile that there may have also been an operator error too.

several things are due an upgrade, cooker, car, (eek!) 2 phones, a toilet, the cooker is held together with roofing bolts, the tv is a portable cathode ray tube with one button missing, phones are 7 yrs old (his) and 5 yrs old (mine)

madhairday · 23/10/2013 12:21

Popping by and praying. Praying esp for Room for tomorrow and for practical answers for BES...

Prayers for all, especially little Grace.

madhairday · 23/10/2013 15:40

Oh ginger :(

praying

Bluetinkerbell · 23/10/2013 19:55

Praying for everyone.

Haven't been very well here, all of us had some kind of viral bug. Only DD1 seem to have been spared so far.

Also went to dentist Room and I need 5! fillings. And I'm extremely frightened of dentist because of childhood dentist trauma...
Trying to cut down on sugar, but that might not have caused it if you say it was your pregnancy sickness...

And I need a course in essay writing as DDO wasn't very happy with my last attempt. Never been taught how to write essays, different country's education system...

PositiveAttitude · 23/10/2013 20:17

(((hugs)))), prayers and Thanks for you, DH and the whole family Ginger

Prayers for all the dental appointments going on at the moment - I am going on Friday!

Dad went for his hospital appointment yesterday and he was told that they will not be treating him with kidney dialysis, as had been planned - it is a case of quality of life versus quality. He's gone for quality, but that leaves a lot of questions and concerns about caring for mum. In reality we don't know how long dad will have, it could be very sudden at the end. He wont consider putting mum into a home. Not too sure how things are going to pan out....
On a plus side, though, DD1 is coming home tomorrow for a week.
DD3's pregnancy is going ok. Still suffering from sickness, but she is ok and growing well.

Prayers for everyone here. Special prayers for all the stress that people are living with. Prayers for peace.

Dutchoma · 23/10/2013 21:14

There is a little book about writing essays Blue. Like you, I had never written an essay in my life, so it came as a bit of a shock. The book was quite helpful. PM me an address if you want a loan, I think I can lay my hand on it.

GingerCurl · 23/10/2013 21:36

blue I also have a book on essay writing. I found it quite useful when I did my Masters a few years ago. PM an address and I'll send it to you.
