New beginnings: a Christian prayer thread for summer

I have called this thread 'new beginnings', as it felt appropriate to lots of us at the moment, in a whole series of ways.

Since I started our last thread, back in April, we have welcomed Abigail Faith, daughter of HadALittleFaithBaby, and Hannah Faith, daughter of RoomForALittleOne. We thank God for their safe arrival and pray that He will watch over them and surround them with His love as they grow.

We pray for Kaykat and for CharlotteCollinsismovingon as they deal with the breakdown of their marriages. We pray not only for Kay, but also for her friend who has been providing her with excellent support and legal advice, for a clear way forward and a swift resolution. We pray for a clear and positive way forward also for Charlotte, and for her children to cope with this change in their lives with understanding and resilience.

We pray for PositiveAttitude as she settles back into life in the UK, and prepares for a period away from her DH and DD4. We pray, in particular, for her DD1, that she find a job in which she will feel supported and which will help her to feel happier and better able to cope with life. We also pray for happiness for PA's DD3, who has just got married, and for her DS in his new job. Finally we pray for the work of her DH in Cambodia, praying that the separation is bearable and that he continues to be able to make a real difference to people's lives over there.

We pray for BlueTinkerbell as she moves to a new home, looks for work, and continues to explore her vocation. May this move be a really positive new beginning for Blue and her family.

Likewise, we pray for niminypiminy who will begin ordination training in September.

And we pray for my church and diocese in the aftermath of some major structural changes. This is a new beginning that was imposed rather than chosen, but may it bring positive developments nonetheless.

We pray also for:

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for this work to be welcomed and valued, rather than greeted with incomprehension, far less hostility;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, for peaceful and restorative holidays, for order in her flat and with her paperwork, and for her DC; we pray especially that they both receive the support that they need from their school;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to receive a clear diagnosis and suitable treatment for her eye problem very soon;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, that her DS is able to access the support he needs and is valued and nurtured at school; for better support also for her DD; for better relationships at work; and for her nephew, who has suffered a burst appendix;

... DutchOma and Bob, for health for Bob and for good support (moral and practical) for Oma as she cares for him day by day; and for the ability to rest and breathe easily in this heat;

...JakeBullet as she deals with her uncle's ill-health and decision to move back to his native Switzerland. May he be well cared-for and peaceful there, and may Jake not miss him too much;

... MadHairDay, for health as she lives with chronic illness, and for strength as she mourns the death of a friend; we remember also MHD's friend and all who knew and loved her at this time;

We also pray for friends who haven't been around for a while... for Badvoc, for Gingercurl and her thesis, for Jan and her DD, for MaryBS, and for all those who lurk, for occasional visitors, and for those known to us who are in need of prayer, whether mentioned here or not.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Will pray for both of you. I'm sure (s)he needs them too. Grin

RoomForALittleOne · 17/10/2013 14:16

Well, we had a much better night last night so thank-you to anyone who prayed.

BES it strikes me that you are having a constant struggle to get the appropriate support for your children and I just wanted to say well done for persevering and championing their needs. I think I'd be tempted to give up sometimes.

cloutiedumpling · 18/10/2013 10:17

We've been away for a few days. Update re DS though - no surgery required. I know I shouldn't worry but I had several sleepness nights until we got the all clear.

Dutchoma · 18/10/2013 12:19

Praise the Lord for that Cloutie.

Dutchoma · 18/10/2013 22:28

Marking the place of evening prayer for Tunnocksteacake. For the success of the treatment her dh is beginning and for her dd's birthday party.

HadALittleFaith · 18/10/2013 22:46

Wonderful cloutie.

I'd appreciate prayer. DH is away this weekend (went straight from work and not back til Sunday lunch). I've never been on my own this long with Faithlet before. I am now on anti-depressants but obviously they won't have kicked in yet (bit of placebo effect simply from starting them and feeling like I've taken control). I never slept well without him here and more so since the fire so prayer for peace, sleep for Faithlet and protection against fire/theft etc would be great :)

Tuo · 19/10/2013 01:28

Heavenly Father, we ask you to keep our friend Faith safe this weekend. May she know Your peace, and in that peace may her days be calm and her nights restful, with restorative sleep for her and for Faithlet. Amen.

Have had another week of busy-busy-busy and have been feeling stressed and hassled (as usual) but have just finished one of the things that had been stressing me out, so am feeling relieved tonight and am hoping for some restful sleep here too.

Praying for all on this thread, but in particular for better health for MHD, for good news on the job/curacy front for Juggling, Room, and PA's DD1, for better support at school for BES's children and for MHD's DD, for Oma's eyesight (updates?), for a house for Kay, for Badvoc, FoD and Lollipop in their time of mourning, and, of course, keeping prayers going for Tunnocks.

Thanking God for good news about Cloutie's DS. And thanking God, too, for the existence of this thread. I miss it when I'm too busy to come and post, but I do try to read through on my phone and to pray, even when I'm not posting much.

Thanks Tuo. I actually slept pretty well. Faithlet only woke once at 2 (fed and settled within 50 minutes). I woke at 6.30 to hear a happy baby squealing to herself through the monitor! :)

Grin from me too. Saw it only this morning so God answered my prayer without it ever being made.
Update on eyesight: seen the optician who needed a fortnight to get one lens ordered and fitted. Am a bit miffed about it as it was very expensive (£153.50 no idea why) and because this is a very big optician's with their own laboratory. The fortnight is up on Thursday, so we wait with bated breath. The choir festival is on the following Saturday, so better eyesight and less of a sense of disorientation would be good. I have strict instructions from dd to find out exactly what is so difficult about providing this single vision lens after the operation. She was all for ringing them and going in all guns blazing, but I do like to fight my own battles.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/10/2013 21:44

offs. i have to repeat everything, every bloody time.

Dutchoma · 19/10/2013 22:01

That will be dh? Sad

Kaykat · 20/10/2013 10:05

Hi everyone. Prayers appreciated for a new house soon and for my divorce to get sorted out. It's all looking positive but I can't help thinking its all some nasty trick from H I just can't believe he is genuine this time.

Dutchoma · 20/10/2013 20:14

Tunnocksteacake's dh starts radiotherapy and chemotherapy tomorrow, so prayers for them.

RoomForALittleOne · 20/10/2013 21:24

Praying for Mr Tunnock and their whole family.

Tuo · 21/10/2013 09:30

It's D (for dentist) Day... again! Big filling to repair broken tooth. I am scared, though weirdly not as scared as I was last time, because I now have a bit more trust in the dentist who'll be doing it for me. Prayers for calm (strangely enough, I'm not scared it'll hurt or anything like that - I just get really panicky, so need to stay calm and then I'll be OK) appreciated.

Praying today for Mr Tunnocks and the whole family.

Also praying that you get those specs back soon, Oma, and that you can see clearly for the choir festival (and in general).

Faith - hope the weekend went smoothly and that Mr Faith is back now.

And praying for Kay, for BES, for MHD, for Room, for Juggling, and for all on this thread.

Hello
sorry to barge in, I am a name changer who has been in and out before.

Please pray for my friend R who is having an operation today and nobody seems to be very confident in the outcome. She has been in a lot of pain for a long time and I really want this operation to go well for her.

I will go back now to pray through the last week or so but just wanted this up here in "real time" while she is under the knife.

thank you

Tuo · 21/10/2013 10:39

Praying for R from dentist's waiting room.

OP posts:
Dutchoma · 21/10/2013 10:49

Praying for you IN the dentist's waiting room, TUO And for R and for C who is one of Mary's friends.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 21/10/2013 11:42

Please pray for baby Grace who is running a temperature this morning. They are taking blood and doing a lumbar puncture and SIL is beside herself.
Please pray for healing and for SIL.

Tuo · 21/10/2013 12:06

I'm out! Tooth patched up, rather than pulled out (yay!), and I didn't panic much. Have had loads of anaesthetic, though, so can't move my face at all - it has gone up my nose, which feels very odd indeed. Have an important work meeting at 4.15, so am hoping it'll wear off by then, as I could do with NOT being a drooling slurring wreck!

Prayers for baby Grace. Come on, little one, you can do it...! Also for Mome's SIL... for hope and peace-of-mind and strength.

OP posts:
youretoastmildred · 21/10/2013 12:23

Praying. Also for the myriad of people that came up as needing prayer, in our fellowship group this afternoon. It was a bit overwhelming Confused, but nothing is too big or too small to bring to God
