And what church is it?

We go to a Baptist Church; you don't have to be baptised to take communion.

It really does depend on the type of church. In a high Anglican church then a preparation for communion course is often taken .
In my very low Anglican church then there is family communion services where they will allow any child to take it as long as they know Jesus.
In the baptist church They sit somewhere between all that where if you feel personally that you want to that's fine but they would hope you would ask for baptism soon after.

My personal view is that our god is a loving God who knows everyone's hearts and who are we to judge who takes communion. When we first are perfect then we can judge.
So if a 5 year old takes communion with a heart to say thank you to Jesus then surely that's better than some of the adult hearts partaking and who's business is it anyway apart from Gods?
