SOMETIMES HEAR VOICES WHEN IM IN BED

Hoping someone can help me as I hope Im not going mental. Sometimes at night-time when Im in bed I sometimes hear my mum or my sister call my name. But they are at home. Also last night heard a helium balloon pop. I have been feeling very tired lately. Could this be connected? Also when I was 10 years old felt my mum tap me on the head and call me by my name. But my mum was asleep in bed when this was supposed to have happened. Also used to see my mum come in my room and stand there watching me but she was in bed when this was supposed to of happened as well. I know this because when I asked my mum at the time why she stands by my doorway watching me she had no idea what I was talking about and said that I must of been having a bad dream. I have also had an out-of-body experience happen to me when I was 7 years old. When I told my mum this she just dismissed it and thought I was dreaming.

I don't know how old you are, but what you describe are perfectly normal for teenagers/young adults. I used to experience similiar when I was a teen and my eldest son has also told me that he's heard voices and had some weird feelings. I think it's related to hormonal changes and brain development and is nothing to worry about.

Also, if you're feeling tired, this will make things such as what you describe, more likely.

Don't worry about it, but speak to your doctor if you experience anything which disturbs you.

Not sure about the things you've seen but my DP sometimes hears voices and people talking when he's drifting off to sleep - something to do with being between conscious states. Coincidentally it often precedes his night terrors too.

If you're worried see your GP but don't worry too unecessarily.

anyway ive had similar , when ive been in bed ive had hallucinations that i could both hear and feel. Very odd and quite frightening if you dont know what it is. Especially as i am aware im not dreamning and that i am awake.

I know for a fact that tiredness can cause our perceptions to change on things, however in this case you mention this has been happening to you for 30 years. I think you are trying to find a logical rational explanation. I have been in that position too.

I have found that yes, it is probably best to be checked out by health professionals but unfortunately they don't hold the answers to everything.

Is it always members of your family whom you hear calling to you?

How does this make you feel?

You mentioned your OBE, I presume this was just the first one you experienced?

Yes it is always members of my family. Mainly my mum, dad and my older sister. Once when my husband left to go to work early (starts at 7pm so leaves at 6pm) I heard him say my name but he was calling me from downstairs. It was the first OBE I had when I was 7

My two cents worth for what it's worth.

In my experience, when I am lying in bed and in that state between being awake and being alseep, I will sometimes feel the bed shaking, or hear someone calling my name. It is normal and part of something called Soul travel.

When we all go to sleep, the soul leaves the body and travels; this is similar to an out of body experience I suppose. There are different type of OBE; lucid dreaming, and astral projection being the most common type. When you say you've seen your Mum standing by the door, that could be an example of astral projection.

Interestingly, what the medical field calls 'sleep paralysis' is what happens when your soul is returning to your body. Happens to me all the time and is not very pleasant.

This is a great book on this topic and was written by a former NASA Engineer. I actually met him last year during his book tour and was fascinated by his research into this field.

Really interesting to read this. My ds2 has experienced this at bedtime too. He's 7, and I wasn't sure what to make of it. He described exactly what you said, although in his case, it is his close friends from school or his brother whose voices he hears. It has never happened at other times of the day.

This sort of thing is not supposed to happen to adults except under hallucinogenic drugs like LSD. If you were to suddenly start having these experiences, I would recommend you to see a neurologist. As you have been like this as far back as you can remember, it sounds like this is how your brain works, not something to worry about.

Its what I'd call a 'brain fart' Grin

(and I've never so much as smoked a cigarette let alone taken psychotropic drugs, and I don't believe I have a 'soul' apart from whatever electrical and chemical signals are going on in my brain. I'm 50 but maybe my brain is still developing...)

More seriously, in the minutes before I fall asleep, as my mind wanders and starts putting together the hint of a dream, I have also seen/heard/felt things as well as twitched and felt like I'm falling. But I know that these are because I am falling asleep and easing into a dream, and not because my immortal soul is mystically projecting itself over astral distances.

Pixie - I'm sure that's the correct explanation and that this question has been posted under, frankly, the wrong topic.

Though then again, I strongly suspect that most 'spiritual' experiences do have such explanations.

I am always amused by how quickly Westerners presume to dimiss something they do not * understand * as 'rubbish. The concept of soul travelling is not new, and dates back to Egyptian and Sumerian times. Long before even Caucasians were a race. Carl Jung has written about it as well.

I work alongside Neurologists all the time, and it is laughable to imagine they have the answer to such things; bear in medical science cannot even fully explain how the brain functions, nor what the function of some of the glands in the brain (the pineal gland for example) are for.
