Fish stickers and people 'adding' to them

Apologies if this has been done before. I've noticed a few comments on MN lately where people have mentioned 'doctoring' other people's fish stickers, by adding legs and stuff.

I get that the fish with legs is the Darwin fish. I get that the Christian fish stickers wind people up. What I don't get is why anyone would actually go and stick legs on somebody else's sticker. Or alter it in any way.

For the record, I am a christian but don't have a fish sticker. I guess that's the same as saying that I am a parent but don't have a 'Baby on Board' sticker. I find both those things a bit...well...naff and annoying, but I also recoginise that that's just my personal opinion and have no compulsion to go and scrawl, 'Not there isn't - it's in the supermarket with you!' on the BoB yellow diamonds, for example.

It's not just me who finds the idea of adulterating someone else's sticker small minded and offensive, is it? Live and let live, and all that.

It's just been bothering me since I found out that people feel the need to go around with little packets of fish legs, that's all.

I'm not sure why it is assumed someone with a fish sticker needs educating about evolution. Are they more likely to be creationists?

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:17

I think it's something to do with this 'aggressive atheism' which is currently quite popular.

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:18

I've just checked my tank and neither of my fish have legs......yet.

TheFallenMadonna · 30/09/2010 22:18

But it about atheism.

TheFallenMadonna · 30/09/2010 22:19

it isn't about atheism...

DuelingFanjo · 30/09/2010 22:19

I've never heard of people doing this! It's rather rude but am sure it's not something a lot of people do, surely?

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:19

Isn't it atheists who are doctoring the stickers then?

Who else would be offended by Christians with fish stickers?

choccyp1g · 30/09/2010 22:20

I seem to remember seeing one with a dinosaur eating the "fish", but I think it was someone advertising their belief in evolution, rather than a vandalised fish.

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:20

Are these the fish stickers you see on the backs of cars?

TheFallenMadonna · 30/09/2010 22:21

God knows Wink

But they are surely making an evolutionist point, against a symbol of faith. And those two things don't necessarily contradict. Unless, as I say, fish sticker christians are prone to creationism. Are they?

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:23

I'm a Christian and I believe in evolution. I don't see that there's a conflict. I think it's quite funny that people do consider there to be a conflict.

TheFallenMadonna · 30/09/2010 22:24

It's quite ignorant...

loopyloops · 30/09/2010 22:25

I used to think they were for people who went fishing.

Gigantaur · 30/09/2010 22:25

I think it is criminal damage.

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:26

From what I understand a lot of the Old Testament is written in code, so who knows what lies beneath the words or who is able to really understand them?

MissDolittle · 30/09/2010 22:32

Loads of people think that all religious people are creationists. No idea why. There was a thread last week about CofE schools and several seemingly intelligent atheist posters mentioned how their dcs enjoyed learning about evolution as if it something that children of Christian parents shun. I think it shows the value of teaching all children about the beliefs of the major faiths.

Going around with a bag of spare legs is frankly bizzare, but I think the whole Darwin fish is bizzare anyway.

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:35

I think that people who insist that Christians mustn't believe in evolution are completely misunderstanding Genesis and are just looking for problems where none exist. I don't mind my kids learning about evolution. We took them on a fossil hunt in north yorkshire a couple of years ago as well.

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:36

We didn't find any fish with legs though Grin

MissDolittle · 30/09/2010 22:36

I'm not that keen on the fish stickers either but I see them as akin to 'baby on board' or 'We've been to Alton Towers' or 'Arsenal' whereas the Darwin ones are like 'your baby is rubbish', 'only dickheads go to Alton Towers', 'Arsenal fans are slags' itswim.

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:44

www.darwinfish.co.uk/

I like the flying spaghetti monster one lol

SolidGoldBrass · 30/09/2010 22:46

Are you sure people actually go around adding legs to other people's car stickers? Rather than just buying and displaying their own pisstake versions?

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:48

I think they just buy their own pisstake versions from what that website seems to show.

There's even a little Richard Dawkins one......aw, bless Grin how lame can you get lol

southeastastra · 30/09/2010 22:50

wow, i really wish i had time to worry about his stuff

ilovehens · 30/09/2010 22:53

Hey, some atheists get themselves all upset about believers and it just torments them to think that we believe in such rubbishy fairy tales Grin

Taking the piss is all they have left.
