I'm almost afraid to post this! Anyone going to see the Holy Father? I sadly can't make it and am gutted but DH and the DC's are going to see him in Glasgow. Would have loved to have gone though. I'm sure I'll get all the news from them and we'll sky plus it too.

I'm so glad you've posted this, I'm going to Birmingham. Me and my two ds's are singing in the choir. We are getting really excited as it draws nearer. Sorry you can't make it, i'm sure your kids and DH will have a good time.

Hi Babysamrocks,
Me and my dd are singing in the choir at Birmingham too - lots of excitment about it here as well. Lots of early nights this next week to make up for the early mornings next weekend. We're just praying for good weather!

macmam · 11/09/2010 21:32

How exciting for you and the dc's! Our lot are taking a day off school and I think that's a bigger draw atm! At vigil tonight and we collected the Pilgrim Packs... I am sooo jealous..

No day off school for B'ham but I suspect dd will be falling asleep at school the following day. Dd was impressed that the 10:30 mass next week is cancelled so those who aren't going can stay at home and watch it on TV - that doesn't happen often!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2010 12:31

I am going to Birmingham :) 2am start though. eep.
Has anyone been given info about the coach return times? would be nice to have a feel as to when coaches are due to start heading back.

Very exciting for you Baby and Acorn!

TheFallenMadonna · 12/09/2010 12:37

I'm not. I think the fact that I am so completely meh about the Pope's visit is pushing me to move to another church actually. Have been wavering for ages. Perhaps it's a good thing in that it is crystallising my feelings? Not sure how I feel about it. Sad

acorntree · 12/09/2010 13:11

Hi Kitten,
Re coach return times one of our latest e-mails said choir coaches would leave Cofton park from 1.30 and would be allow to leave before the pilgrim coaches, so I think its going to take a long time to get everyone out. Don't bank on rushing home.

TheFallenMadonna,
I hope you find a church where you feel comfortable. Everytime I waver something unexpected happens to draw me back in, but I think it is probably a good thing that these events challenge us and get us to think about what is important for us and where we are comfortable, whatever the outcome is.

acorntree · 12/09/2010 13:13

sorry - ...allowed to leave...

Babysamrocks · 12/09/2010 13:45

Hi acorntree,

Where have you been rehearsing? We've been at St Chad's. Really looking forward to next Sunday, we said at Mass today do you think we'll still be awake this time next week!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2010 14:12

Thanks Acorn.

acorntree · 12/09/2010 15:20

Hi Babysamrocks,

We're rehearsing at one of the smaller centres in Oxfordshire. It's been a nice friendly group and we've enjoyed singing together.

whimsy · 13/09/2010 07:25

I'm taking DS1 to Cofton Park, I must say I'm really looking forward to it. Mumsnetter's in the choir are an added bonus Grin

Babysamrocks · 16/09/2010 21:07

Hi macmam, Have your DH and DC's had a good day, are they even back yet? Lovely weather too in Scotland today, would you send it to Birmingham for Sunday. Grin

:) Was it so crowded that he was teeny tiny far away, or was it so that you actually felt part of it? (bit worried it might be a bit 'life of brian'!

I did wonder what will happen to Sunday masses in the Birmingham area. My colleague is going, and she was telling me the schedules... I assume all priests in the area will go to cofton, as once in a lifetime opportunity really... but who will give parishioners mass? (As I know many won't be going as only so many tickets)

Not sure why I am concerned really (am atheist), but I have been pondering this all week.

I hope you all have a fantastic time anyway- whatever people think about the rights or wrongs of it, it is still an incredibly occasion. And how refreshing that mr Newman didn't have to be martyred either Smile

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 10:43

Praise be.

And his name shall be call-ed wonderful.

FreddoBaggyMac · 17/09/2010 11:00

CaptainNancy. Thank you for such a respectful and generally friendly post! It is people like you that restore my goodwill towards atheists Smile

In reply to your question, our Sunday Mass has been moved to the evening when the Priest will be back (we had a vote a couple of weeks ago and you could choose Saturday evening or Sunday evening).

Really, really wish I could go especially after seeing it on the news... but my four DCs are a bit young to be sitting in a field for six hours or so unfortunately Sad

Hope everyone going has a brilliant time - make sure you sing nice and loud as I love hearing it on the news Smile
