Coming next week...

I've suggested: Topsy, Bridie, Bess, Nessa, Nell, Dilly etc

He's suggested: Bagheera, Mabel

The kids have suggested: Toffee, Fudge, Sharpay (!), Dory, Peppa,

Any suggestions..... am thinking a non-human name better as less likely to endu up naming her after someones kid or Mother

I love the name Mabel

How about Molly?

Goober · 20/04/2010 22:22

Pup?

lazydog · 20/04/2010 22:23

Raven

sharbie · 20/04/2010 22:23

aaaaaaah Dory's cute.

lazydog · 20/04/2010 22:24

Our choice for our female black lab was Poppy, but now I do have friends with DDs with that name (didn't before I chose it!)

MmeLindt · 20/04/2010 22:26

We had a mad as a brush springer spaniel called Topsy.

I like Mabel, Bess, Nell.

Ella

Daphne

Mathilda

I like Granny names for dogs.

Give the dog a middle name, and let the DC chose that. DD wanted to call our dog Sparkle so that is her middle name.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 20/04/2010 22:26

Love Mabel!

Isn't there some unwritten rule that labs have to have an 'ee' ending name though?

eg:

Mollie
ellie
Lucy
Polly
Topsy

We are going to call our next puppy 'Pie' as it is our dog's NN. It came about as we were always saying about our leftovers - save them, we'll put them in a pie.

Which will be technically accurate if we call our next dog Pie.

We will use our leftovers as 'Pie' filling

Flum · 20/04/2010 22:26

Mmm all four family members that can speak do like Mabel so that is what we are currently agreed on.

Dh and I both really like Bagheera though, Baggy for short, although I did point out that Baggy is a slang for a Johnny in the US

whooosh · 20/04/2010 22:27

Magic..... (as in Black)

Flum · 20/04/2010 22:29

Mmmm Mabee or Mayballee or Waybaloo

Amapoleon · 20/04/2010 22:30

Our's is called Coco as dd wanted another to go with it called Pops.

dizzydixies · 20/04/2010 22:32

Dixie
Hoover - best dog name I ever heard
Ebony

MmeLindt · 20/04/2010 22:33

Hoover is a fab name for a dog.

ShinyAndNew · 20/04/2010 22:35

We have a black named Bess and she is yummy. Very friendly and relaxed.

AS a NN she is Bessie or Bessie Bunting.

Flum · 20/04/2010 22:36

Ooh I suggested Dixie

Hoover funny, but rarely got a snigger or a look up from Blackberry Poker.

Oh I knew a lovely Bagheera, she was Baggy for short too.She was a black doberman and the sweetest doggie even though I am not a doberman fan.I like most of your names, not very helpful, sorry!

DrNortherner · 20/04/2010 22:40

I think a short name is always best for a dog. We have a black lab called Max, but he was a rescue dog and already had that name. We would have called a brand new one Jed(i).

For a girl black lab how about:
Arka
Belle
Toto
Roo
Joss
Elsa
Shiloh

My Labs sisters are called Maggie and Bridget the Midget (runt with the biggest attitude)

MrsL123 · 20/04/2010 23:01

Congrats on the new arrival, I'm very jealous! We have black labs too, but in my stupidity I always let DH name the pets, so amongst others we have Milly, Holly, Molly .... see a pattern? T'is very confusing in my house - there is a lot of "Holly, I mean Molly, I mean Milly, oh for f*cks sake!" going on

Our pup's mum was called Sasha which was nice, and I like Poppy too - dog's seem to respond well to that name because it always sounds happy! Izzy is a great name for a black lab, we see one on our walks and it just suits her so well - wish I'd thought of it before letting DH come up with Holly (it wasn't even Christmas, she was born in summer. And when you shout the dog, the cat comes running, and vice-versa. Unfortunately he had done her insurance and registered at the vets before I could change it. Plonker!). We also know labs called Maggie, Nellie, Phoebe and Daisy.

Vallhala · 20/04/2010 23:05

I was going to suggest Mabel! I like your DH's thinking!

Flum · 20/04/2010 23:14

I like Sasha but mates dog just died and called that.

I also like Penny but is MILs sister who no longer with us.

No onelike Bagheera then?

frostyfingers · 21/04/2010 13:48

What are the dog's parents called......maybe you could take something from that.

I've known a Guinness, Deefer (d for dog - old one now I know, but still quite good), Tetley.

Slubberdegullion · 21/04/2010 14:05

Olihan's black lab is Mabel.

Are there a lot of us with black labs? Maybe we should ask for our own topic

If we hadn't gone for Elsie (old lady name ending with ee [fits rule]) then I was angling for Baggins. I have known a Baggins in the past and I always liked it.
