My cat died tonight.

I don't know what happened. I hadn't seen him for a few hours and he hadn't come in for his tea despite calling him.

DH went out to look for him and found him on our neighbour's drive. There's not a mark on him. Dreading telling DD in the morning and DH is devastated. He was only six and was my baby before DD came along

I'm sorry Jellymummy

You must be so shocked

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/03/2010 23:38

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that, it's always upsetting when they go unexpectedly

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 13/03/2010 23:39

I am so sorry.

Take some (very little) comfort in the fact that you have found him and brought him home. I had a 12yo go missing, never found him. I never got to say goodbye to him.

Jellymummy · 13/03/2010 23:49

That must have been really hard TimothyTiger.

I just wish I knew what had happened. He was dashing around the garden this afternoon, full of beans. I don't think he's been hit by a car as no signs of injury.

I'm kicking myself as when I was washing up this evening I thought I heard a knock at the door. I stopped to listen out for another knock or the doorbell ringing but it didn't and I didn't go and check. I'm wondering now if it was someone who had seen him either unwell or dead and because I didn't answer the door he was out there for another few hours

Sorry

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 13/03/2010 23:52

He may have been hit by a car. I had a cat killed by a car once and there wasn't a mark on her. The neighbours saw it happen though and told me.

So sorry about your cat.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 13/03/2010 23:54

A vet once told me that often the only sign they've been hit by a car is that their paws/claws are scuffed. (we had another cat that was poisoned and the vet said it wasn't car accident as paws were fine, she survived).

I'm so sorry. That must have been such a horrible shock, and not knowing what happened is so hard on you.

My lovely cat died this morning and though she was older than yours, it's still very hard.

So sorry to hear this Jellymummy. And to Mamagoblin and Charley24. I dread this happening to our adorable cat. I want to go and hug her now but she is, as usual, wandering around outside somewhere.
