My cat died tonight.

I don't know what happened. I hadn't seen him for a few hours and he hadn't come in for his tea despite calling him.

DH went out to look for him and found him on our neighbour's drive. There's not a mark on him. Dreading telling DD in the morning and DH is devastated. He was only six and was my baby before DD came along

Our cats are part of the family; one is getting quite old and I'm dreading That Time.

It's heartbreaking when beloved pets die, especially unexpectedly.
I think he probably has taken a glancing blow from a car...sadly my last 2 cats died this way with no sign of injury either.
The hardest part is always telling the dc. Prepare yourself that your dd might take it very badly
