Why isthe small dog trying to get it on with the big dog?

Small dog - 'whole' - just over a year old.
Big dog - castrated - nearly 10.

Small dog is always trying to get big dog to play. Big dog does play while his patience lasts.

This evening after their walk small dog decided their relationship was ready to go one step further and has been trying to hump big dog all evening. sniffing his bits, washing his ears and generally making a love sick fool of himself.

to complete this picture small dog is a miniature dachshund. Big dog is a large and hairy border collie.

Why?

because he still has his bollocks and he's a randy little bugger? Maybe?

EccentricaGallumbits · 18/01/2010 21:27

but he's not usualy a randy little bugger. he's never been a one for humping anything, not even my sisters equally beautiful dachshund in season!

I suspect he may be a bit gay.

it could be that!

MrsL123 · 18/01/2010 21:32

pmsl

Is big dog enjoying the attention? If so I'd just leave them alone with their debortuary

Bella32 · 18/01/2010 21:56

pmsl - dominance, not sex. Small dog showing large dog that he (small dog) is higher up the pecking order. Not a prob as long as big dog doesn't mind (and they often don't). Best not to interfere.

HTH

MrsL123 · 18/01/2010 22:20

lol bella, I was going to suggest dominance but the ear nibbling has got to be for pure enjoyment, surely?!

If little dog takes to wearing leather pants and reading good housekeeping, just get them a room and leave them be

Our dogs are always acting like lesliebeans (as my niece calls them!) when they get excited - most of the time they don't even get the right end

Bella32 · 18/01/2010 23:08

MrsL - there is a former MNer whose large male dog likes to lick my large male dog's penis when they meet up. And he keeps on licking....

She knows who she is

lol @ lesliebeans but yes, they probably are getting the right end

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/01/2010 08:28

pmsl

always aim above yourself - literally in this case!!

Bella32 · 19/01/2010 10:15

Lovely mental image there, Blondie - thank you

MrsL123 · 19/01/2010 10:52

Bella I never thought of it that way - your're right, dirty little trollops!

Bella32 · 19/01/2010 12:19

Pass a bit of time with Blondie, MrsL - she'll soon bring you up to speed on deviant sexual practices

GrimmaTheNome · 19/01/2010 12:36

Eccentrica, some dachshunds are just ambitious!

My last dachs used to try to hump anything within reach (including once, DHs bosses leg ). We had him neutered after we had DD because at some point something could have gone horribly wrong. And fortunately in his case it did cure the problem - he'd occasionally start, and then look puzzled, with a 'why am I doing this?' look, and stop, poor little chap.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/01/2010 14:59

i like to be visual

and to ref to tainting blondes innocent name+iamage!!!

pure as the driven snow i am, apart from the yellow+brown bits 10.5 stone dog has weed and pooed in

Bella32 · 19/01/2010 15:02

Gawd, Blondie - I didn't even know what a gimp mask was before I met you

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 19/01/2010 15:04

If small dog is only just over a year then he has just become the equivalent of a 14 year old boy whose bits have just started to work

He is a randy teenager. Dogs will hump whatever is available. They usually (but not always) prefer a bitch, but in a bitch's absence will happily go for a male dog.

Big dog should tell him to bugger off (no pun intended)

Bella32 · 19/01/2010 15:07

The big dog's body language is very important.

Does it look like this?

minimu · 19/01/2010 15:47

Often the dog that is doing the mounting is the dog that is insecure. In your case I guess he has tried all the usual come play with me advances and as it does not always works goes in with his last big shot - the mounting!!

Not sexual in anyway just you are ignoring me now what can I do!

I have used similar methods with my OH when I needed some shelves being put up! and also the opposite method when he left me with 5 kids under 5 for a weekend!!!probably TMI

Bella32 · 19/01/2010 15:48

You mounted your OH? As a disincentive to leaving you on your own?

midori1999 · 19/01/2010 15:51

LOL at the picture posted by Bella, I must remind myself that they will usually make me giggle so I do not spit my tea all over the keyboard...

Also LOl at teh comment by minimu... I know it was meant in jest (or I assumed it was?! ) but it reminds me of something I overheard my grandmother telling my Mum years ago, 'women do not enjoy sex dear, it is merely something they use to get what they want'

Bella32 · 19/01/2010 15:52

Minimu, my sweet, you are the font of all knowledge wrt dog training, but I fear you have grossly misunderstood something in relation to men

EccentricaGallumbits · 19/01/2010 16:33

big dog just looks a bit bemused and bored with it all.

Small dog is most definately in charge. Big dog doesn't mind this and puts up with it.

What about afterwards?

Does he look like this?

EccentricaGallumbits · 19/01/2010 17:36

yup. that's about it.
