If you don't want your details on the dog for all to see, for the love of all things holy, just put a mobile / home phone number on it

Please

Thank you

I found a dog in the road today - she had no tag on, I didn't know what to do. Used DS's scarf to make a lead so she didn't get killed as she ran off (busy road) and used my mobile to google the local police to ask advice.

Finally heard someone yelling.... turns out it was her owner...

It would have been SO much easier with a phone number - I'd have known who to ring and tell I'd found their dog!

Grimma - I think that is to stop potential dog theives thinking that they were getting away with a pure bred dog that they think that they might be able to use for breeding, or sell on later... I don't have that on my mutt!

GrimmaTheNome · 13/01/2010 13:26

You miss my point... you might wish to label a neutered bitch but labelling a dog has to be superfluous!

abra1d · 13/01/2010 13:36

I have just ordered one of minimu's linked-to tags, as well.

They'll wonder where all these orders are coming from!

sb6699 · 13/01/2010 13:53

at those suggestions for what to put on boy's collar.

Think mine would have to be: mobile number, chipped, hip-displasia and will chew your house to bits (think that would put off a potential thief).

sb6699 · 13/01/2010 13:58

In all seriousness, it is important to remember if you want to make it easy for your dog to find his way home.

When we got our pup, we dog-proofed the garden to make sure he could never get out but one day the postman came in while he was in the garden and left the gate open. Cue puppy finding his freedom and him being lost for 8 hours. Luckily for us a local farmhands who loves dogs found him and walked around for hours knocking doors, etc until we got him back. Despite him having his tag, he had snagged his collar on a fence and snapped it.

Should also point out that the police werent much use. We had reported our dog missing and the farmhand had apparently made his first stop the police station who told him they had no reports of a missing dog!

Yes, mine are bitches, one of which is a real corker,so have put neutured on thier tags too.
The one with hip dysplasia wouldn't be able to stand the weight on her back but anyways...

minimu · 13/01/2010 14:14

Oh I hope I get commission!

I have on all of my dogs tags

My surname
address with postcode
mobile number and home phone number.

to sb6699!

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 14:32

I always have my vet's number on too.

So that if dog is hit by car and I can't be reached, they can take him there.

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 14:33

Grimms, my love, you clearly haven't heard of prosthetic testicles

I kid you not

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 14:35

False balls:

Neuticles

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 14:36

Oh balls!

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 14:37

aaaargh!]

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 14:38

pmsl at how they 'help your pet retian his self esteem'

Nothing about a totally fecked up owner, or anything

Piffle · 13/01/2010 14:39

our dogs are tagged and chipped
the tags have our name number and postcode on it
plus
"I am microchipped"

GrimmaTheNome · 13/01/2010 14:42

Actually I had, and did nearly put 'unless he has neuticals' but then I thought, nah, no-one sane in the UK would have heard of them - surely only Americans worry about their boydogs 'self esteem'

hatwoman · 13/01/2010 14:44

lewis - this happened to me once too. dog wondering around, near a busy main road - started to follow me ( i was heading for the main road) it was a lovely friendly thing. I decided I'd take it to a friend's house as she might know who it belonged to (I live in a village - but I'm quite new) then heard someone caling it. it's really annoying when they're not tagged. potentially means getting police and/or vets involved when a short tel call would perfectly do the trick.

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 14:58

...and now you're saying I'm not sane, Grimma?

minimu · 13/01/2010 15:56

PMSL Bella at neuticles

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 17:37

But Minimu - aren't you worried about his self-esteem?

morethanyoubargainfor · 13/01/2010 17:42

my dogs are all tagged with all relevan tinfo, (not the dogs names). They also have a tag stating they are microchipped and please scan me etc, they are also with PET24 ad have a tag on for this! they sound like reindeer.

Not that i am paranoid of course .

abra1d · 13/01/2010 18:02

My son has just glanced at this thread. 'What's all this about bitches and balls?' he wanted to know.

luckyblackcat · 13/01/2010 18:12

Is this where I confess that I shelled out for a tagiffany tag and put my old dialling code (with current phone no) so it is useless.

I didn't know it had to be whole address, I'd just done postcode (home phone plus two mobiles) - so at least I will not have to confess complete stupidity to DH - I can pretend I need it redone as I didn't realise I hadn't put enough info on!

Bella32 · 13/01/2010 18:36
luckyblackcat · 14/01/2010 09:49

Is it even more embarrasing if I confess we have lived here nearly 5 years?

double

Bella32 · 14/01/2010 16:26

Don't worry, LBC - it's just your age, dear
