And I'd like one of each flavour and colour. really really want a chocolate one next.

Am I alone in my sausage passion?

NO!

You are not alone. We have a long-haired miniature silver dapple and he is a love. I would also love a red (? is that the colour - the gingerbready one) standard smooth haired.

His only drawback is that we wanted the hair on his sides to grow long and glossy like fur curtains, as you see at Crufts or somewhere - alas rather muddy and scruffy!

GloriaInEccentrica · 15/12/2009 17:55

I'd like a standard one too (to add to my fantasy pack)
I have miniture black and tan. He is the most delicious thing in the world.

Don't have one, never have but I adore them! It's my retirement fantasy to buy a little dachshund.

GloriaInEccentrica · 15/12/2009 18:00

I highly recommend it

You eat them!!

I haven't seen on in years and years is this because of GloriaInEccentrica odd culinary habits?

GloriaInEccentrica · 15/12/2009 18:04

don't eat them as such - just taste a bit while kissing and snuggling.

um - is that gardenia's DS?

On a serious side I actually haven't see one in years. I last saw one walking down the seafront in Aberystwtyh about 10 years ago and even then I thought to myself. "Well I do declare - I haven't see a sausage dog in years!"

VintageGardenia · 15/12/2009 18:11

this is what ours is like (the underneath one).

I like that they are proper doggy dogs with a good bark, not scratchy, yappy lappy things. Yet they are small enough to be very easy.

GloriaInEccentrica · 15/12/2009 20:38

niiice. will add ne like tht to my christmas list.

Budd there was a really camp bloke in peacocks the other day saying really loudly to his mate 'y'now you just don't see sausage dogs anymore do you? such lovely little dogs, where've they all gone?!'

His mate was like 'errr I dunno'

wildfig · 15/12/2009 21:01

Oooh, I love wire-haired dachsies. They are proper doggy dogs. And very handsome, with their beards and spiky eyebrows. I always think Eddie Jordan has a look of a wire-haired dachshund.

BellasSparklyBaubles · 16/12/2009 09:00

I have health objections to Dachsies (such a party pooper, me) but I did love a little wire haired girl once

Winetimeisfinetime · 16/12/2009 10:57

Oh I love Dachshunds too. We have a standard, black and tan girl and she is the snuggliest, cuddliest dog.

She is really well behaved too - well compared to our other two dogs { non Dachies but lovely as well }

DecorHate · 16/12/2009 10:59

I have seen quite a few around here recently - and Harrods pet department had some a few weeks ago - £1700 each!

We used to have one when I was a child and I could see my mum thinking " Why didn't we keep her puppies and start breeding them?!"

Winetimeisfinetime · 16/12/2009 11:04

I have just put a picture of her on my profile. She looks very sausagey for those that like that kind of thing

5inthesleighbed · 16/12/2009 11:16

I adore dachshunds. I've had two over the years. The first was a miniature one, black and tan. He had the longest ears. We had to leave him in South Africa when we moved back to the UK . His full pedigree name was Chipolota Killer Fang . The second was a gorgeous long haired red bitch. We had her for 12 years before she died from a kidney complaint. She was lovely. I want another, but can't justify the money when I have three children to clothe and feed.

BusyMissIzzy · 16/12/2009 16:41

I've only ever had cats, but I always thought if I was to get a dog I'd like a miniature dachshund. A little black and tan one. They just seem really good natured.
Out of interest, how do you doggy types pronounce "dachshund"? I'd be inclined to say "dash-hoond", but I think in America they say it more like "dax-hund". Then again, they also say "aloominum", so what do they know?

BellasSparklyBaubles · 16/12/2009 19:59

I say dax-hund but I definitely don't say alooominum

GrimmaTheNome · 16/12/2009 20:06

Dax-hund - its from the German for badger-hound so you should pronounce it the german way.

I love dachshunds too! We are on our second black and tan short haired standard. DH had a red oversized mini as a child. He says they are addictive.

DD's ambition is to get one of each colour, size and coat! The other evening she was singing along to 'Money money money' :
'If I had a lot of money... I'd buy lots more dachshunds'...next verse '...and a lot of food for them' ...next verse '...and pay the vets bills'. This is a young lady with a fine set of prioritys who should one day be a responsible dachsie owner!
