Have I got the strangest cat, ever?

She likes to chew my nail files.

This thread is really gross.

Almost as gross as my ongoing attempts to lever a shrew's mangled head out of the zig-zaggy metal bits inside my radiator...

MammKernow · 29/11/2009 20:30

Oh Bella i have every sympathy - once had a dead mouse dropped in the laundry basket next to the radiator - they start stinking pretty quick!

Forgot to mention, he also came in panicking one night cos he couldn't get the live slow worm out from under his collar - have no idea how he got it there in the first place

CMOTdibbler · 29/11/2009 20:39

Mine have all liked nail files too.

Current cats are reasonably normal, although asking a neighbour to feed them also entails getting a listing of what they have brought in while we were away. And our next door but one neighbours who are currently living in Dubai came back this week to an assortment of decaying corpses on their patio as Boycat loves their children. And they all come for walks with us. But reasonably normal.

Someone did puke a mouse outside the back door this week. Uncommonly kind of them as things are usually left in the hall or under my desk

My first cat of my own used to join me in the bath (curled up on my chest), once brought home a ham sandwich, and another time a gammon steak, and used to stare at one of our friends everytime they came to visit. For 10 years this went on - everytime he came, there the cat would be, bolt upright and glaring at him

BelleDameSansMerci · 29/11/2009 20:47

I thought mine were bizarre but I fear they are rather dull in comparison to the nipple chewer...

They both like nail files though.

Male cat licks the walls.
Female cat loves anything sticky ie selotape/lint roller things and licks the stick off.

They both like to chew hair - mine and anyone else foolish enough to let them near it.

EccentricaGallumbits · 29/11/2009 20:56

mine eats carrier bags. goes all orgasmic over them.

my other one only has 3 legs and looks bizarre. specially when leaping from the roof to the fence

nail files is weird and makes my teeth itch though.

sootysox · 29/11/2009 23:32

Mine sometimes comes on my puppy's walk with me.

edam · 29/11/2009 23:51

wow some freaky moggies out there. I thought my kitten was weird but his liking for pizza/pasta/toast/cereal/daddy long legs seems positively boring compared to your lot.

Although I still can't quite work out why he purrs when ds is tormenting him. I am trying to teach the child to be kind to the cat, but cat constantly undermines me by rudding purring when ds decides it's a good idea to sit on top of the poor animal or find new ways of squishing and pulling him. And refuses to escape when I insist ds lets go!

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 29/11/2009 23:57

One cat I had preferred sweetcorn to minced beef. He also had a thing about mushrooms, and wouldn't eat chicken liver (a delicacy recommended by my sister) unless I sauteed them in butter first.

Another cat had a thing for suckling. Not so unusual, you may think, but she got really into DH's armpits.

Another cat, when she had kittens, went down to the kitchen and laboriously dragged up a lump of tinned cat meat, then called all her babies to see what mummy had killed for them.

I currently have a Special Needs cat. His favourite thing is to try and kill us. He does this by throwing himself exactly into the place where you intend to place your feet. His speciality is waiting till you're about to get out of the shower, then sitting on the mat so you stand on him...

Remind me, why do I keep cats?

NorbertDentressangle · 30/11/2009 09:58

If we're talking what "prey" cats drag home after a hard day/night hunting I think the most impressive thing one of ours ever brought home was.......a jamtart

A friends cat once dragged a piece of cheese on toast home through the catflap. The best bit about it was that it was still warm, so some poor neighbour must have turned their back to get the pickle from the fridge only to return to find their plate empty.

BloodRedTulips · 30/11/2009 10:06

my aunts tom cat once brought her a kitten.

she told him it was very nice but could he bring it home please and he picked it up and wandered off with it and she never saw it again.

RockinSockBunnies · 30/11/2009 10:26

My cat adores earwax (apparently all cats do). Itch the inside of your ear, and the cat will start manically licking your fingers.

The cat also loves crunching on toe nails (and finger nails, she's not fussy). She quite likes boiled potatoes.

Our old cat used to sit on the side of the bath with his tail in the water, happily flicking it about.

A friend's cat was a fan of peas and would try to eat them off the plate at supper time.

I have a friend who swears that she knew a cat that could say basic sentences in German (it was a German cat, not a bilingual one), such as 'let me out' and 'I'm hungry'...

ninedragons · 30/11/2009 10:40

I had a cat that would hop in and swim around if you left the bath running with the door open.

And every so often I would hear a splash and realise I'd forgotten to shut the lid of the loo. I'd find him sitting in the bowl quite happily.

edam · 30/11/2009 18:56

Reminds me, my sister had a cat who really loved cleaning ears but only if you were wearing earrings. Or maybe she thought earrings were bad or something. She used to lick your ears until she'd got the butterfly undone.

My childhood cat liked peeing in the bath. But she did hover directly over the plughole, with perfect aim.

Current kitten likes walking along the side of the bath but only when ds is in it. If ds puts his knees up, the cat will walk on them. Daft thing ? but he's never fallen in.

Oh, and my other sister's current cat has a thing for washing up sponges. He nicks them from the sink and drags them away to be disembowelled.

edam · 30/11/2009 18:59

Oh, and ds's kitten objects to cups being put down on one of our coffee tables - if you are absent minded and put a damn coffee cup in this convenient place, situated exactly where it is handy for the sofa, kitten will knock it over. He has no interest in drinking the contents, just an obsession with knocking drinks over. But only there, anywhere else you choose to leave your mug is fine by him.

stubbornstains · 30/11/2009 19:14

I was once getting fruity with an ex in bed, when the cat decided to join us, gave his erect penis a long hard look, then started licking it.....

stubbornstains · 30/11/2009 19:15

The boyfriend's penis, that is, the cat was a female.

stubbornstains · 30/11/2009 19:20

The present cat insists on drinking out of my glass of water, when she has a perfectly good bowl of her own on the floor....Drives me mad.

Also, she used to love Damien-Hirst-style bunny arranging. Ie: a couple of paws, next to a dainty pile of lung, with a pair of neatly crossed ears next to that. I was trying to get the White Cube interested when we moved to a less bunny-fruitful area, and she stopped....

somewhathorrified · 30/11/2009 19:54

I have one cat that likes banana, another that like satsuma peel and another that as a kitten would only play with red toys. My old cat did manage to empty next door's fishpond of all there goldfish, then started on our carrots.

edam · 30/11/2009 20:27

Well done that cat re. the goldfish. Reminds me, my childhood cat scared my goldfish to death by staring fixedly at it for hours at a time and then deciding it was a good idea to try to drink all the water to get at the fish... (although to be fair I'd won the goldfish at a fair so it probably would have copped it anyway).

piratecat · 30/11/2009 20:34

omg!! that's hilarious (BloodRedtulips) @ 19.50 post

'our cat that we had years ago used to attack dp's balls during sex ''

FreeGeorgeJackson · 30/11/2009 20:35

Mine is the strangest
School nearby have to LOCK HIM OUT

MyCatHasARedderNoseThanRudolph · 01/12/2009 10:14

Lets face it, cat's are just plain weird!

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 01/12/2009 10:20

Mine loves washingup sponges too. He is obsessed with the sink in fact and is often found curled up asleep in it.
His brother likes to get in the bath with DD3. He also brought a fully grown rabbit through the catflap last week and dragged it upstairs and under our bed- we were woken up by the sound of crunching...

MeAndMyMonkey · 01/12/2009 10:24

Aw EccentricaG I have a three-legger too. He doesn't do anything spectacularly weird except pretty much live in the airing cupboard.
Someone asked me if he was a particular breed, with his three legs... um, yeah, a run over breed!
Other cat is a good mouser and once left a mouse's bum, tail and heart artfully arranged on the stairs. I thought it was some kind of devil worship sacrifice...

CheeeseOnToast · 01/12/2009 10:33

aah i love cats! so much more interesting than other pets!
