New puppy - now or September?

bella29 · 06/05/2009 09:44

Am adding to my brood - 11 yr old mongrel and one year old lab Also 2 dc (5 and 7) plus DH.

Have been stalking liaising with a good breeder for my new pup and I now have a choice: a litter ready now, or one in September.

Very very teeny tiny chance we'll go away for a week in summer, but quite unlikely. Otherwise, no real fixtures/events to work around, and no real change in my routine between term time and schoo holidays.

Please vote for May puppy or September...

TIA

Bella

now if you aren't going away - you get a chance to get it calm before the kids break up for the summer, and you get to house train it over the summer when the weather is better. And hopefully it can spend a lot of time in the garden in the summer.

But September would be fine too (so not much help at all really - I am good at sitting on the fence !)

Nice fence sitting there, Throckenholt

May. Long summer hols for bonding and training. Lucky you!

bella29 · 06/05/2009 10:18

Thanks, Cheerycherry

I make that 1.5 votes for May, 0.5 votes for September so far....

Now, get it Now (and post pics)

KingCanuteIAm · 06/05/2009 10:26

Now, Now, Now,

For totally selfish reasons of course

What will you call it?

Sorry, must be serious. I agree house training in better weather is easier, especially if you end having to stand outside waiting for it to wee so you can say well done (not much fun in the rain)

Aha - but what if dh and I suddenly decide to sod it all and go to the Caribbean for two weeks?

Do you seriously think a couple of weeks in the Caribbean would be enough to tear you away from a cute little puppy?

Don't be silly

throckenholt · 06/05/2009 10:51

send it back to the breeder for a holiday too ? Or leave it with whoever is taking on 2 kids and 2 other dogs while you go sunbathing - a cute puppy will be an undeniably welcome extra .

Being logical now - does current litter have the option you want - re sex, temperament etc ? If so - then go for it.

bella29 · 06/05/2009 10:55

tbh, if I get as far as Cleethorpes I'll be lucky

Current litter has a perfect puppy for now, or I could reserve a bitch for September....

Is it a sandwich one?

When you say perfect now puppy or a bitch in September, do you mean they have a dog now that ticks all the boxes but you would prefer a bitch?

BTW, what flavour is it?

throckenholt · 06/05/2009 11:02

hey - where's my hobnob
since you are counting - make my vote a 3/4 for now and a 1/4 for later

bella29 · 06/05/2009 11:06

Lovely bitch ready now...

Flavour of puppy or flavour of hobnob, KC?

OP posts:
KingCanuteIAm · 06/05/2009 11:06

Puppy

bella29 · 06/05/2009 11:10

Ooh, yummy

Traditional or chocolate?

throckenholt · 06/05/2009 11:17

I'll leave the choice of puppy up to you.....

bella29 · 06/05/2009 11:19

Traditional.

Nice to see you, Throckenholt

So any more thoughts today Bella?

I thought of another reason for going over summer - drying the paws of a puppy is really difficult

bella29 · 07/05/2009 13:35

lol, KC. I got my lab last summer and with the weather we had, I spent more time drying him than anything else

Looking like a July pup now, assuming someone with first dibs doesn't choose 'mine'... Otherwise it'll be September.

So perhaps I will be scuba diving off Barbados after all...

Ooh good, I suppose the most important thing is to get the puppy you want, having done all that stalking work it would be a shame to get over-excited at the last hurdle and end up with the wrong one IYSWIM.

Can I join you scuba diving? It might just be enough to get all the mud of me - especially my face [grr]
