Need a name for a female golden lab!

Just been to see a litter or 12 day old puppies and we will be getting a female as soon as they are old enough. She is gorgeous! Tiny, eyes not even open yet.

We need a name!

We did have a male black lab for a very short while and I like Murphy for him and DS wanted to call him Theo (after Theo Walcott who plays for Arsenal!).

We have no girl names though so need lots of suggestions please.

milly, maisy, flora, freda, bumble, madison

Tidey · 02/05/2009 18:16

There was a poster up in my primary school about the RSPCA which had golden labs called Heather and Honey on it. I've always thought they were rather lovely names.

KingCanuteIAm · 02/05/2009 18:16

My dc have come up with these for you

Honey
Goldie
Mellow
Amber
Rose
Daffy (as in daffydowndilly)

Maybe not to your taste but they seem to have got quite into it!

Celery · 02/05/2009 18:17

We had a golden lab when I was a child. She was a beautiful, placid, big part of our family and her name was Bess/Bessie.

Maisy - DH says no

ditto Freda
Bumble - friend has a dog called Bramble
Madison - maybe
Heather - friend's name
Honey - friend with DD Milly and dob Bramble also has a dog called Honey!
Goldie - not keen
Mellow - no keen

scardypants · 02/05/2009 21:20

Sorry. Meant to say because it could kind of be a substitute (geddit? ) for Theo!

bella29 · 02/05/2009 21:25

Am doing my best not to be offended by KingCanute's 2nd suggestion...

We lab owners call them yellow , not golden you know. Those are retrievers. Should you wish to become a fully fledged member of the boring lab owners club here, you'd better get the lingo right .

Anyway, am worse than useless at names but many congratulations on your new pup

Membership of the lab club includes 2 free copies of Country Living, a bottle of Chianti and a box of organic veg {grin]

KingCanuteIAm · 02/05/2009 21:30

Sorry Bella

bella29 · 02/05/2009 21:32

It's okay, KC. Just popping out now. Going to collect my new African land snail.

Can you guess what I'm calling him?

kalo12 · 02/05/2009 21:38

madonna

bella29 · 02/05/2009 21:42

No, I'm calling the snail KingCanute because KingCanute said the OP should call her new dog Bella and you see I'm Bella and that's a bit insulting to suggest someone call her dog that cos you see I'm not a dog well you see I'm no Elle MacPherson but not bad really in a sort of boring lab owner type way and it's just not nice to suggest a person's name for a dog whatever that person may look like and so....

oh, you mean cal lthe puppy Madonna?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 02/05/2009 21:42

Buffy

Although I knew a Jack Russell named: Kylie Minogue. Not kylie. Kylie Minogue

Buda · 02/05/2009 21:44

LOL at bella29!

I am completely clueless when it comes to dogs. Sorry - should have said yellow!

I quite like Bella for the name but I bet DS and DH won't!

Cleo sounding good too.

I do struggle with human names for dogs though. Does that make me weird? Probably.

I have a beautiful Golden Retriever called Jess

Her littermates and mum were called:
Holly
Amber
Willow
and
Tilly

bella29 · 02/05/2009 21:50

You can have Bella if you want. It's not my real name anyway and some other blighter's got a dog called Bella already. And really honestly I am secure enough in my appearance not to be offended.

I love the idea of non-human names for pets (Bracken etc) but I always give mine human names. Blinking embarrassing at the school gates when your dog's got the same name as several children though

themoon66 · 02/05/2009 21:51

All the labs in our family have always been called Tess or Bess. Spaniels are always Peggy.

I don't know why.

Sidge · 02/05/2009 21:51

Mabel

Saffron

Aurelia (means golden)

themoon66 · 02/05/2009 21:52

You need something that doesn't feel embarrassing when you have to shout it!

Plonker · 02/05/2009 21:54

Love Mabel!!

Flossie is good too

ilovemydogandMrObama · 02/05/2009 21:56

What about a theme?

A friend named all her dogs varieties of trees, hence:

Birch
willow
Cedar
