is my cat missing the dog?

Our lovely, lovely dog passed away last week. He died after short illness....we are obviously all upset about this, but I suppose us humans in the family can rationalize it all, and we know where he has gone, so to say....
Anyway, our little cat is behaing a bit odd....miouwing a lot....and I just realised that, ratehr than her not realising that indeed her food (between feeds) is staying untouched (the dog used to eat whatever she would leave so she is sued to always miouwing when hungry) , that mayeb she is missing him?
The cat is not quite a year old, but obviously Ninja was there from the day she came to live with us, and they were wonderful friends...i.e. playing really nicely and laying together and even licking eachother....
so, could it be that? Is she missing Nnja and a bit confused as to where he is?

She did realise he was unwell, because she kept away from him on the last few days....

I think it's fairly possible, cats do like to have a mate around and she probably can sense he's not there anymore.

Sorry for your loss

it's stupid really, that it has only occurred to me...but I suppose I have had a busy week (Uni) so...didn't really take much notice...

they were such good buddies...and our dog was the best....we had him from being about 4 weeks old (he was a rescue pup, and was abondoned infront of a pub....the rescue home felt that with him bieng so young, he was better of one to one, so, we got him pretty soon after he arrived at theirs ....

It feels very weird not having him around...I keep thinking..oh Ninja will have the left over food and I keep looking for him when I come in, as he used to come to the door as soon as he heard us come and stuff like that...

We are going to a local rescue place tomorrow and will have a look around to see if their is a suitable mutt for us ....it feels a bit fickle, so soon after Ninja has gone, but my house doesn't feel like home anymore

Is your cat spayed, FairLady? Could she be in season and 'calling'?

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 18:20

she is spayed....we had her spayed around x-mas time...

So it sounds like she is missing him

Sorry for your loss - it's very hard, isn't it?

Don't worry about being fickle, though - if you feel you are ready for another dog then get one. Sometimes it feels right to get another very soon and sometimes it doesn't.

Plus the rescues are overflowing with needy cases

Best of luck & keep us posted whatever you decide.

Eeek - I want Trinity! And Max and Rosie and most of the others on the first two pages (that's as far as I got!).

You must let us know how you get on!

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 18:41

I quite like Trinity (that is the dog with the 3 legs, isn't it?)

We always prefer boys really, but on page 10 is a beautyful girl called Zena....

but there are many gogeous dogs that I will enquire about....tbh...I am a total sucker....I love pretty much all dogs

I'm just a sucker for a sob story. Show me a dog with 3 legs, a cat with one eye or anything that's had a rough ride and I am there.

Going to look at some more pages - didn't realise there were so many

She'll be missing the dog for sure.
We got a kitten and puppy about 6 years ago and they were the greatest friends having grown up together.
Sadly about 6 months ago the cat got run over.
The dog was so miserable Not eating, pacing the house and the worst thing was if the dc's messed with the cat flap, the dog would come running to see if the was cat coming in. Heartbreaking stuff
It didn't last too long, maybe a couple of weeks. We have a new cat now and the dog loves her, cat can be a bit sniffy though.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 18:56

awww ingles...your poor dog at thinking it was the cat when it was the Kids...

and sorry to hear your cat was run-over...

Thanks Fairlady. brings a lump to my throat when I think about it... And I'm really sorry your dog died Was he old? and what breed?
being practical now... don't look at those pictures! It's just too heartbreaking I'm not going to look at the link. My heart will melt, my brain will turn to mush and I'll want to bring them all home.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 20:28

He was only 9...so...well....not really old, but of course not a young pup neither....he was a complete bitso....there was some border collie in him and possibly some terrier, or something with coarse hair, and maybe some lurcher type....who knows....he looked like a dog that could have advertised for pdsa/rspca....he would have been the scruffy dog act...he was sooo amasing with the kids aswell....sigh...he wil be a hard act to follow, iykwim

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 21:21

shame...that you can't....but thought you might not be...never sure with that website...

OP posts:
FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 21:24

OP posts:

Bless!
He's Adorable!
you are so right... he needed to be the star of that RSPCA campaign. What a sad, soulful begging face.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 21:43

I know....
we got him from a smaller organisation near Newport (we were living down on the welsh birder at the time)...RSPCA would not rrehome a dog with us, due to dh being in the Army, so, we looked around for other places...
originally we got a grown Border collie cross....sadly after about 2 weeks he bit our oldest (and only at the the time) son, and he bit him in the face (around the eye....luckily he was/is fine and nothing serious)....but he wasn't therefore the dog for us (especially as es was always good with dogs and not full on or rough)....
so, a couple of weeks later we are ready to look for another dog, but wanted a puppy only....Ninja was brought into the home the night before...we got there and said about a Pup, and they put Ninja into my arms....and the rest is history....he was soooo tiny and soooo cute

OP posts:
bella29 · 01/05/2009 22:19

On a scale of 1 to 10 for loveliness he's about an 11

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 01/05/2009 22:26

I know....like I said he will be a dificult act to follow.....because he is the dog that let me think, if you have the right dog, everything is perfect....well with kids....I suppose if we had been robbed....well........saying that when dh's motornike was stilen he did bark, but I was to scared to go out....
