Our lovely, lovely dog passed away last week. He died after short illness....we are obviously all upset about this, but I suppose us humans in the family can rationalize it all, and we know where he has gone, so to say....
Anyway, our little cat is behaing a bit odd....miouwing a lot....and I just realised that, ratehr than her not realising that indeed her food (between feeds) is staying untouched (the dog used to eat whatever she would leave so she is sued to always miouwing when hungry) , that mayeb she is missing him?
The cat is not quite a year old, but obviously Ninja was there from the day she came to live with us, and they were wonderful friends...i.e. playing really nicely and laying together and even licking eachother....
so, could it be that? Is she missing Nnja and a bit confused as to where he is?

She did realise he was unwell, because she kept away from him on the last few days....

Hi....well...cat not pining anymore, but neither is she to impressed....bless her...and yes, we went to the shelter and picked up a lovely, big mutt....he possibly is a x between german shephard and maybe Bull Mastiff ...possibly some Labrador, too.....he walks lovely on the lead and is a big softy....only issue we have had so far is, that, when he gets fed he growls if you are near him, but possibly to do with being in a kennel with several dogs...oh and we have had some "marking" indoor issues...but I suppose that is to be expected....
He is quite beautyful and is called Scooby Doo (well, the pound lady called him that....because he does look a bit like scooby...I think it is his ears and face...although colour he is mostly tan coloured with a bit of black....)...
Well, we shall see how it all goes...and I am hoping teh cat comes around ....

i just re-checked their website, and I think it is actually Neptune that we have gotten (page 9, on top)...
he was on our list to look at, but it was more a co-incidence that we took him for a walk....but I just called out Neptune and he reacted far better to that name than to scooby....
hm....not really keen on Neptune, lol...

Congrats!

You could try tagging his new name on to his old one - ScoobyNeptune! - till he gets used to it.

Presumably Neptune wasn't his 'real' name either so little point in choosing a name to rhyme with his old one, which is what I'd normally do.

You could try adding food to his bowl but if he really is seriously guarding his food you need to be careful and/or get behavioural help.

Hope he settles in quickly.

well, scooby was the name given by homeowner..she said he was called something else...can't remember what he was called, but the neptune pic fits and he is RESPONDING well to neptune....which makes me wonder

Cat still not to impressed, but is getting a little bit more confident....
Oh we renamed the dog now....when I initialy saw him, I said to dh , oh he should be called Tan...and dh said, oh that would suit him, and Cantana as his "proper" name...no idea if I spelled that right, apparebntly a cantana is a big sword or something...
He is settling in well, and bought wormer yesterday as we found he was worm infested, poor thing....so, the Drontal hopefully will have done the trick...

I am sure your cat is missing the dog. I am sorry for your loss but think it is great you are looking to get another one. Maybe get catty a treat too.
