CATS - what is the point?

stillenacht · 14/04/2009 20:29

I really can't understand it - MIL has about 4. I really dislike them with their revolting tails and showing their bums all over the place, scratching and snootily walking around..... i don't get 'em...now dogs i do get

I prefer my cats to my husband. They're more pleasant.

They also have longish fur so I can't see their bottoms.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/04/2009 20:36

I was thinking just the very same thing about 15 mins ago after throwing my cat out DDs bedroom for the millionth time.

Dogs though...I might start a thread about the point of them...

ClaireDeLoon · 14/04/2009 20:36

Maybe you could get your husband to grow his hair long so you can't see his bottom either Banana?

CarGirl · 14/04/2009 20:36

If you select your cat carefully you get loyalty & affection & don't have to walk it I've always had very people orientated cats (rather than the the snooty aloof kind) and it really is like having a dog.

underpaidandoverworked · 15/04/2009 14:00

You get unconditional love and affection and they don't give you a hard time or answer back

Geekylass · 15/04/2009 14:33

They don't smell, they are affectionate if you bring them up that way, they don't lick your face, they have soft cuddly fur, they make cute noises, they are warm and fuzzy and keep my feet warm in bed!

Plus they're smarter than dogs

OrmIrian · 15/04/2009 14:34

My cat is the most beautiful being on the face of the earth. And she loves me. No really she does. That's why it's my head she drapes herself round at night

marie1979 · 15/04/2009 17:41

i love my cats my oldest has just been put to sleep cause he had a tumour he was very loyal and loving and i miss him very much. I LOVE cats better than people

JollyPirate · 15/04/2009 17:52

... because they are affectionate (like dogs)
...becuase they become attached to their owners (like dogs)
...and because I don't have to walk her (unlike a dog)
... and she enjoys her own company meaning I can go out to work. (unlike if I had a dog).

Don't get me wrong - I don't dislike dogs - would love one but would not feel right about it while my work hours are as they are.

I have just been away for a week and my brother stayed here to cat sit. He says she spent some evenings "calling" for me and needed lots of attention.
Last night when I returned she slept on my pillow all night. (oh stop looking so horrified all of you - I am a slattern and can't help it.)

underpaidandoverworked · 15/04/2009 20:33

My cat loves me so much that she climbed into bed with me for a cuddle, as she often does, and had her first kitten right next to me . I thought she was being sick till I pulled back the covers and saw a giant slug like thing on the sheet. YUK . Said kitten is always by my side now - am her surrogate mummy Mattress and bedding since been replaced

TheBolter · 15/04/2009 20:37

Oh my good god Underpaid, that would traumatise me! The only thing my cat's done on my bed was a massive shit.

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 15/04/2009 22:11

I love my cats

They are not only affectionate, they are independant and they all have their own personality.

Life is so much more interesting when you have cats......think of all the lovely dead things presents they bring you

chequersmate · 15/04/2009 22:12

I'm not really a cat person (can't give em a hearty pat like with dogs), but I think they are beautiful, just beautiful, graceful creatures.

stillenacht · 15/04/2009 22:18

nope, still can't abide cats.. i think it is largely to do with MIL calling them her 'babies' hmmm....

stillenacht · 15/04/2009 22:19

underpaid - that makes me feel sick was it ok to see her being sick in your bed and then realising it was a kitten....bluergh!!!

OP posts:
underpaidandoverworked · 16/04/2009 01:04

Would have preferred it if she'd been sick - or had a massive shit - as there were another 3 kittens to follow, all born on the bed . Hence the new mattress .

But I still love her - and the two 'twittens' we've kept . May not be saying that when they're climbing the curtains in the weeks to come . Have grown up with cats - dh thinks I was one in a previous life as I love having my back stroked . Or should I open a thread elsewhere for that......

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 16/04/2009 18:02

stillenacht, i call my cats 4 weeks old kittens "babies" too.

They really are the cutest little things ever!

JuxaLOTmoreChocolate · 16/04/2009 18:39

They can be house trained.
They take themselves for walks.
They curl up on your lap and purr.
They eat less than dogs.
They say hello when they see you.
They keep you warm in bed.
They are affectionate.
They don't need brushing but love it when you do.
They purr.
They purr.
They purr.
They purr.
They purr.
They purr.
They purr.

stillenacht · 16/04/2009 19:05

nah - still think they are horrible - found one in DS's moses basket when we went up there (DS was asleep in it) when he was 4 weeks old- i threw it out....urgh horrible things!

Snooty, scratchy, horrible tongues as well, bum holes showing to all and sundry...bleurgh..oh and people (like MIL) use them as baby substitutes....eurgh!!!

Liskey · 16/04/2009 21:11

Cats are wonderful animals - especially mine - she's like a dog in nature - loyal, chases after balls, talks to you (in cat) and is really affectionate and loving.

I must admit she is a bit of a child substitute as well - but she's still gorgeous (though not as gorgeous when she catchs a mouse).

marie1979 · 16/04/2009 22:23

can i ask why u are on a pets thread saying you hate cats? is it to wind cat lovers up i dont get your thread??

marie1979 · 16/04/2009 22:32

dogs show their arses
dogs shit in their own garden

stillenacht · 16/04/2009 22:32

oh no marie1979 its just there was a 'Dogs whats the point' thread and i can see the point in dogs but can't in cats so just wanted to see if anyone felt the same as me (not many obviously!) or what people thought really

OP posts:
marie1979 · 16/04/2009 22:40

oh yeh i see just read the thread never noticed it bfore sorry. do u really hate cats that much?

stillenacht · 16/04/2009 22:42

oh yes have never liked them - always found them creepy but after MIL makes such a blooming fuss about them and one of her cats nearly sat on my DS1 when he was tiny...mmm i would quite happily never see another cat as long as i lived.
