Best cat litter?

Hello. After nearly a year of going outside for the loo I think we are going to have to bring back a litter tray .

What is the best cat litter? I would love something that doesn't smell too much, and ideally clumping as otherwise I find it so much harder to get the wee out. It will have to go upstairs so don't want anything too smelly. Might even have to go in our bedroom

Any recomendations would be great

Even in a domestic garden compost bin it isn't recommended to put in faeces of meat eating animals, vegetarian animals faeces eg rabbits and guinea pigs are O.K. It probably comes down to the different types of bacteria in each, the wrong type of bacteria buggers up the whole process. Also the council won't expose their bin men to potential parasites in the faeces while doing their job I suspect, nappies are usually wrapped when placed in the general waste, but I bet people wouldn't do that with used cat litter due to the no plastic rule in the brown bins. Imagine the stench over two weeks in summer!!! However, urine is beneficial in accelerating the composting process.

Yes the cats poo in gardens, but that is the garden owners responsibility for their own health and safety!

I've always found clumping stuff to be the worst. I use Teco Lightwieght stuff. the pink stuff.

Catsan is good for smell control. However, Lidl clumping cat litter is also good. We have a house cat so tend to opt for Catsan as odour control is more important.

We used Tesco value cheap as chips and we clean the whole things every morning.

We don't wrap our nappies . Didn't even think about the bin men, just thought I was wasting less plastic! Although all they do is wheel the bin to the lorry which picks it up.

We used Beauticat Clumping - was fab but not sure if still available?

I am going to go to pets at home and see what they have. Ideally I think I will get a pack of the crystal stuff and a pack of the Oko stuff recommended in the first post. Will then give her 2 trays, so she can work out which she will prefer and eventually we should just be able to use one type of litter.

Thanks for all your recomendatoins, been really helpful.

My favourite is World's Best (can get in online from Amazon, Zooplus and probably other places) A bit expensive but lasts ages before a full tray change and is good with odours. It clumps and is flushable - great for us as tray is in the downstairs loo.

One thing I found with odour control of poops is it only works if they bury the poop! DCat likes to pile up the litter then poop on top of the mound Confused

BUT... they say the best cat litter is the one your cat will actually use. Following a two week stay in the cattery (who use bog standard Catsan), DCat took against his nice clumping litter which he had used perfectly happily for past 9 months grrr and peed behind the TV until we switched back to Catsan Angry

I find Catsan the best. We used to use a wood based one but there was bits of wood/sawdust stuff everywhere. It used to cling to the fur and was all over the furniture too, was a nightmare

Hi guys, sorry to dig up an old thread but this thread was the first thing i saw on Google so it must be relevant?

I've seen World's best cat litter touted as the best cat litter in a few sources, I'm sceptical that it actually is though as it seems it is just called the best because of its name?

Is corn based litter meant to be good?

Thanks in advance,

A
