We are taking ownership of a lovely Welsh Sec D tomorrow. He's 4 years old. Just been backed and has never had a name.

He has his registered name which is a mouthful so I'd like to find him a lovely pet name that suits his very calm, affectionate nature. Perhaps with a hint of Welshness??

My 3 DDs have come up with several but none that we all like.

The current faves are-

Tango

Tizer

Woody

Zac

and Leo.

Any suggestions gladly considered.

Not sure on names but what a gorgeous looking horse

twinsetandpearls · 29/08/2008 00:33

Beautiful horse will ask dd for a name, she is better at that kind of thing than me.

Pixel · 29/08/2008 01:05

He's beautiful .

I like Woody but then that's my horse's name (short for Torchwood).

My friend had a pony named Cariad, which is welsh for darling and I always liked that.
If you can't have William you could have Gwyllym (welsh form but I think there are different spellings).

Pixel · 29/08/2008 01:25

loads here

dooit · 29/08/2008 08:00

Thanks for that Pixel. Loads to look at there. I love the girls names but of the boys' ones there are only a couple that leap out. Tudor and Idris are lovely.

From your suggestions I'm loving Gunner, Taffy and Cosmo.

Blooming kids are still in bed. I want to go wake them up. I've been awake for hours, I way too excited to sleep. He should be arriving this afternoon/evening all being well.

We will have to have yet another conflab later to find him a name once and for all. Thanks again for all your suggestions.

Can you give us his reg name?

Nemoandthefishes · 29/08/2008 08:16

oh love the name samson.
I used to ride a welsh cob called Sprag..lovely horse.

lillypie · 29/08/2008 09:34

He looks like a cob I had as a teenager

He was called Tonka cause he was built like a truck

LilRedWG · 29/08/2008 09:36

George sprang to mind, but if you want Welsh, how about Gareth?

MrsJohnCusack · 29/08/2008 09:39

I said Idris too!

dinny · 29/08/2008 09:49

I think he looks like a Max

He's lovely, lucky you.

dooit · 29/08/2008 13:17

Well after all that it looks like we're right back where we started.

We put lots of your names along with ours in a hat and DD1 pulled out Leo. Unfortunately for DD1 that is the name of a boy she knows and doesn't like. But then she's 14 and knows alot of boys she doesn't like so our boys names were mainly rejected by her.

So Leo it is I guess. I must admit I really like it. It's kind of solid and sensible but also a bit lionish (?) as is his colouring.

Thanks for all your efforts.

Oh and whoever it was that gave the link to the horse name generator, thanks a million. It came up with some great ones as well as some howlers. I had hours of fun on there.

Congratulations on Leo, the new member of your family!

from my tiny London terrace - no space for a horse here.... or is there?

dooit · 29/08/2008 18:33

Thanks frisbyrat.

Leo is good.

bodiddly · 29/08/2008 21:01
